When fishing at night on Toledo Bend, or Sam Rayburn, my spinner baits of choice are both WHITE or BLACK skirts with single Colorado oversized blades in chrome or gold colors!!! I keep both colors tied on and go from one to the other, whichever is getting bit the most!!! I have really caught as many on white as I have on black colors, and spinner baits on both lakes produce good size fish!!! Black for Bream and white for shad!!! Thanks for this video as it is much needed for all the differences amount all the fishermen responding to it!!! Thanks again MATT!!!
These are pretty much my favorites as well. One other I like looks more like a bluegill than a shad. I throw it with twin Colorado blades around the bream beds, night and day. Good stuff Matt.
I’ve found on Table Rock lake over many years that a Chartreuse skirt with orange tip catches lots of Largemouth and spotted where as just changing to a Chartreuse skirt with pink tip on the same spinner bait in the same location will start catching smallmouth and not the other species and switching back to the previous combination will stop catching smallmouth and pick up the largemouth and spotted again. I’ve experimented many times under various conditions to prove this is in fact not just a coincidence occurrence but can reproduce the results repeatedly.
Agree with whit / chart , but in really clear water like a crystal whitish, green pumpkin bluegill with green blades for up north, and like black blue in muddy water , like the recommended colors , something for me to consider if my preferred colors fall short, thanks matt
Normally I use mostly the colors you said but try the coleslaw/dayglow color in clear water if there's enough chop to toss a spinnerbait. It produces bigs and sometimes more numbers than clearish whites or bluegill colors. I like a white willow with gold Colorado and you can go dark trailer for a siluette in muddy water or brighter for the bold different look or more white to even out the bold. Very versatile!
In my main lake , EVERYONE and their dog throw chartreuse and white or similar spinner baits. While they still work I've found one that's brownish ,olive and has flash painted blades that are olivish but still metallic. It's been money for me there and other places also. Total confidence in it now! Get a lot of hits on the fall!
I buy the components and make my own spinnerbaits. I use a watermelon candy over a golden shiner skirt and it mimics the sunfish here in NJ. I also use a blue spinnerbait on moonlight nights
I fish spinner baits a ton this time of year because everything here stays flooded and muddy for the first few months of spring. War Eagle has a color called Mouse- I think that's right. It's an off white with some gold in it- the spots in my area tear it up. I have no idea what it looks like to them but I'm guessing it looks a lot like a crappie- whatever it looks like, they like it. It's a weird blade combo to- the larger blade is a cross between an Indianna and a willow and its gold- maybe that's what they like, Idk. They hit it even when they're being finnicky though- it seems to be a reaction bite. Which makes me think maybe the blades are irritating them or something. That said I've also seen them run up from feet away and grab it so- it must look yummy.
I fishspinnerbaits alot! Zman power finesse, Clausen, Indiana blades, mouserat, thin wire, awesome vibration. And my number 2 is Booyah tux and tail Black and Copper Colorado blades. Both are killers here in the upper Midwest. Plus black booyah is great at night. I've got alot of walleye on the spot remover color from war eagle also. Usually 3/8 oz is what i use. Thanks Matt.
Thanks Matt for your sharing your time & experience, I've had good bites with sunfish & perch colors in early spring, double Colorado, 3/8 to 1/2 depending on how shallow the bass are, varying retrieves from slow rolling to waking & ripping it, letting the fish activity dictate speed, even whether to add a trailer or not, your so on point about patterning skirt color to forage species, your such an amazing fisherman & teacher, great MLF placing last tourney, Peace & Blessings!
I found that purple pink and black spinner bait to be very interesting for night fishing but I don't night fish anymore.. I got tired of spending half my night in bed wondering how that mosquito bit me where it did and the other half of the night scratching
45 years ago when I 1st started using spinner Baits I used to buy all different colors.. The one I used today at least 90% of the time is A chartruse and white as you mentioned. I occasionally use a white or a straight chartruse on certain situations. I agree with you 100% on the chartrse for smallies. I also use a lime green twin tail trailer which helps give the bait more color and the fish a better target even in off colored water. Sometimes in off colored water I will change my blades to a red or an Orange but most of the time I just use the standard silver or gold. Because my trailer doesn't hang off the back that far and give such a nice target I never use a trailer hook and have found it not to be a problem.
I agree with you on chartreuse and white but I can't get bit on it to save my life. I throw a lot of bluegill patterns though and do well. This year I'm going to try more lighter colors. Whites silvers and the like. I actually have a white and chartreuse tied on now with a ringworm in chartreuse I'm gonna give it my all. Lol.
I actually bought a bunch of war eagle spinnerbaits this morning in all different colours. Got em on sale for $4 a piece. Safe to say I don’t need spinnerbaits anytime soon. 😂
Great video I just started fishing to Rick Clunn's trickster spinnerbait in all white and I will use a 4-inch grub to give it the accent color that I am looking for
I like that purpley shad looking one. I bet that would be killer on the lakes in my area! For some reason, the largemouth in my lakes tend to like oddball colors.
Can’t go wrong with chartreuse and white or chartreuse blue and white. I like a 3” curly tail grub either white, pearl white, pearl chartreuse, or chartreuse with silver glitter. I like chartreuse silver glitter best
Matt, I love your content and it's a good video . That said , you need to add Bluegill colors to the mix. I'm absolutely convinced that I consistently catch more 5 plus largemouth fishing inland lakes for largemouth where I live in SW Michigan with that color scheme than all other colors with Chartruese /white as my number 2 choice. The other thing I like is using black metal willow blades with the bluegill colors.
The lakes up here that we fish in NY are really clear so it makes my selection a bit easier. Only out on the river it could get stained. Thanks for the video
Great video Matt. I totally agree with White and Chartruese and all Chartruese. Those colours work great here in Ontario for sure. I have had a lot of success with all white for decades too. Pure white and pure chartruese or combo do really well up here for smallies for sure. Spot remover is what I use for my chatterbaits when there are shad. Will see if I can get that sexy purple shad you mentioned that does great in tea/tanic water which we have as well in many of our lakes around me. Thanks again for a great refresher on old faithful! 😀
i throw the War Eagle double willow leaf char/white most all of the time. in dirty water i add a Gary Yamamoto ZEKO char/white and in clear water i use the sold white zako. i catch lots of fish these last few weeks. i am retired so i fish almost every day going to two different lakes close to my house. so far this year i have caught 98 bass
I just did ask a question about spinnerbaits in your recent Day 3 wrap-up video. Thanks Matt. Good tips. And glad to see that at least a few of my favs aren't on your list!
🍺Thanks Matt…Did you ever get the chance to check out the Imakatsu Helter Twister spinnerbait? Sounds like the “Muddy Crystal” would be your color choice. I like the “Black Raven”. Elam thinks spinnerbaits will play at Eufaula.
I love your choices of your colors for spinnerbaits, I cant tell you how many fish I have caught using the spot killer color skirt on spinnerbaits and on the one you use at night I put a few strands of red and it made a difference, I dont know why but at Table Rock it really works along with Lake Of The Ozarks!!!
Any junebug type color for me is game. I’ve fished them in clear water and in muck and still get bit. It’s not quite as dark as a black and blue but makes a good silhouette in muddy water still. It works best in stained or muddy water with 5 ft ish visibility and kills Clearwater around grass for me at least. I haven’t tried purple spinner but definitely can see it killing the competition
In that water color which is kind a like Florida , I can give u a tip purple , blue , black with a hammered Colorado copper blade , # 4 , in the day time any tanic black water
Have you tried the Spike-It blade dye? I haven’t and wondered how well it stays on. Seems like it would be good because you get the added color and still get the metallic reflection shining through.
@@MattStefanFishing I think it can make a big difference throwing something different than others in a tournament. It just seems like I get bigger bites too for whatever reason. Gets the bigger aggressive fish maybe. On a pressured lake, the bass see a lot of the same baits. Everyone is throwing a firecraw chatterbait for example. Give ‘em something different sometimes!
I don't know how people get fish to bite on these. Even at a lake where I caught 100 pike in 2 days, I could not get them to bite on any color spinner I tried. Spoons, jigs, senkos, bobber with worms, everything else was catching, but not spinner.
I really love to throw bluegill colored spinner baits, especially up here in New England where they were tons of bluegill in lakes
sounds good!
Just found this one after watching Jimmy Houston talking about his Redman spinner bait. Thanks Matt

very cool thanks for sharing!
👍👍👍 The war eagle in the mouse color has been a good one for me
thats a good color!

great spinnerbait info- that sexy shad skirt works great in the ct. river as well - especially where it runs clearer.
great to know

I build also and have fished Jersey in the past. If your in muddy water try brown& orange. Pulled a 7.2 pounder out there in Mirror lake.

I throw War Eagles, love them.
thanks for sharing!
Matt! Went out today on Table Rock. Had the Hover rig on for first time. Success. Thanks for “heads up.”
YES!
That purple, yellow, white looks to me a lot like the colors of the threadfin shad that I see in my local lakes.
awesome!

I agree , Bluegill colors are so under rated for spinnerbait fishing.
Spot Remover by War Eagle. One of the best colors ever. A close second is Mouse.
both great colors

Really like the cole slaw did good on it last year can’t wait to try it again
go for it!

Great pics I throw white silver willows or chartreuse white 90% of time it gets bit
awesome!
Up north we have great results with the bluegill color
Glad to hear it
I seem to do best with a white with white willow leaf blades or silver willow leaf blades
Thanks for sharing

bluegill is a great color
Thank you for all your information. What color would you throw in muddy water where the bait fish are blue gills. Again thank you for all you do
id still throw all white/chartreuse or all black
AYU in or AYU out?! AYU picking up what I’m laying down? Favorite all around. Change the blade and trailer to match water clarity.
hahaha

Good choices. Especially the night time bait.

Great video! I do a lot of fishing in the Northern Midwest. What is the best advice in selecting weight of the spinner baits?
Just depends on depth you are fishing
Thanks for the video Matt
You bet!
Great tips 👍Thanks Matt!🐟🐟
thanks!
You ever try black/blue skirt down here in Florida. I was just thinking everything else is black/blue but not spinners hmmm
yep and it works!
Great tips on spinnerbaits. Colors and combinations.
thanks!
Matt thanks for all your tips.
you bet!
I just did ask a question about spinnerbaits in your recent Day 3 wrap-up video. Thanks Matt. Good tips. And glad to see that at least a few of my favs aren't on your list!

i did but never ordered one...im going to have to do that!
I like a solid white most times. I noticed you had a trailer on one , do you throw trailers often on your spinner baits? Tight lines
just depends on the conditions
I love your choices of your colors for spinnerbaits, I cant tell you how many fish I have caught using the spot killer color skirt on spinnerbaits and on the one you use at night I put a few strands of red and it made a difference, I dont know why but at Table Rock it really works along with Lake Of The Ozarks!!!

Thanks for the info!!!! I'm guessing the chartreuse would be the one for rivers for the Smallies!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!
yep!
Thanks Matt. Super great video and info.
Glad it was helpful!
I wanna be cool with you! All that Tackle looks amazing 🎣
The best!
It blends in with the water color
sounds good!
Would you put a trailer on the all chartreuse spinnerbait or just go without one for smallmouth?
i generally prefer only a small short straight tail trailer to add bulk on spinnerbaits if i use one.
Thanks matt
you bet!
Kind of off topic what was that Berkley spoon that they put a skirt on it???
im not remembering that one
Do you typically use a trailer for smallmouth? If so, what type and color?
i generally do not
In that water color which is kind a like Florida , I can give u a tip purple , blue , black with a hammered Colorado copper blade , # 4 , in the day time any tanic black water
awesome!
I also have a question. What's the best bait when the water just unfroze.
i like a jerkbait
Have you tried the Spike-It blade dye? I haven’t and wondered how well it stays on. Seems like it would be good because you get the added color and still get the metallic reflection shining through.
i havent but will be looking into it!
Is pink and Black good?
Yep
Smallmouth I like chartreuse and lime
smallmouth like chartreuse and anything ahaha
Thanks Matt, I use it rarely, Its overused here. Maybe in dirty water.
thanks for watching!
Do these colors work where there are no shad? Where I live there are no shad
yes
I’m a big believer in colored blades
me too!
@@MattStefanFishing I think it can make a big difference throwing something different than others in a tournament. It just seems like I get bigger bites too for whatever reason. Just caught a 10.4 on Saturday throwing a all black and gold Colorado blade. It’s on my channel
DANG big one!
@@MattStefanFishing Thanks, Matt.
What are your thoughts on a red front blade, a buddy of mine in Alabama says it the only way to go ?
it can be good in muddy water
Some good stuff right there🎣
thanks!
In trout fishing we use the smallest of hooks. This applies to spinnerbaits.
thanks for sharing
That color cole slaw and crawfish orange brown and chartreuse
winners!
Do spots like the solid chartreuse?
yep!
Maybe it's time I should try spinners , unless i run across another killer jointed hard swimbait 😂
sounds good!
I don't know how people get fish to bite on these. Even at a lake where I caught 100 pike in 2 days, I could not get them to bite on any color spinner I tried. Spoons, jigs, senkos, bobber with worms, everything else was catching, but not spinner.
interesting
Bluegill
good color!
@@MattStefanFishing we have much more bluegill than shad where I am
If you don't think this guy has his act in order, check out how organized his tackle is in background.
haha
@MattStefanFishing I was being serious. I envy that organization man. I'm not sure about the rest of it but what the camera showed looked unbelievable
I couldn’t help but laugh because you’re on the money, the first bait I threw this morning was a white and chartreuse spinnerbait 😂
such a good color
Spring is indeed coming but not fast enough. Yes smallies hate pink and chartreuse both. They want to kill it and get out of there waters!!
agreed!
Bluegill Bluegill Bluegill
good color as well
👍👍👍👍👍
thanks for watching!
✅ 25
thanks!
Sexy Shad, Bluegill, + Spot Remover...
nice!
