Joel McHale is the current host of "Card Sharks" aired Sunday evenings on ABC. When one card is the same as the next one, it's supposed to be a push (no win, no loss) until the final bet. The late Jim Perry was the original host of "Card Sharks" when his version was aired on NBC.
True, but in my honest opinion, I personally think Jim Carrey would've been a better choice to host the Card Sharks revival. Think of it; Jim Perry, the OG host, and Jim Carrey, they sound alike. To me, it would've been a home run.
The one good thing about the ones w/Wink Martindale (and the late Tom Kennedy on another clip): Jim Perry (or maybe the show) was kind enough to have it to where the least those celebrity players would have for their charities was $5000 (I call it a kindness because of all those busts and how embarrassing they were).
8:40-- after Jean's bust, Jim says, "I cannot remember three doubles! That is incredible. And when you consider that they were moved up, that was very, very unusual."
Just goes to show that you were playing Russian Roulette (in a manner of speaking) with even the best cards in the deck, and that it can severely backfire on you!
I hated the lose on a Push (double) rule on the Jim Perry Version of Card Sharks until October 20, 1980. the 1986-89 Version with Bob Eubanks was so much better because a push (double) was no win-no loss.
With the double loss rule: Bet all on 2 or Ace, 3/4 on 3 or King, 2/3 on 4 or Queen, 1/2 on 5 or Jack, 1/3 on 6 or 10, 1/4 on 7 or 9, $50 on 1st row or $100 on 2nd row on 8. With the push rule without Ace showing: Bet all on 2 or Ace, 7/8 on 3 or King, 3/4 on 4 or Queen, 1/2 on 5 or Jack, 1/3 on 6 or 10, 1/4 on 7 or 9, $50 on 1st row or $100 on 2nd row on 8. With the push rule with Ace showing: Bet all on 2, 3, King or Ace, 3/4 on 4 or Queen, 1/2 on 5 or Jack, 1/3 on 6 or 10, 1/4 on 7 or 9, $50 on 1st row or $100 on 2nd row on 8. On the Big Bet: Bet all on 2, 3, King or Ace, 7/8 on 4 or Queen, 3/4 on 5 or Jack, 2/3 on 6 or 10, 3/5 on 7 or 9, 1/2 on 8.
True, and that, IMO, was the best era of the Money Cards-- unfortunately, the ABC producers seemed to have forgotten about that, and brought the old way back.
@@bmasters1981 They brought back the push rule on the abc version for 2020. At least like the Eubanks' version; duplicate cards in the money cards are no win-no loss.
I like Bob Eubanks, but I prefer Jim Perry's version more. Still one of my favorite game show host to this day. Even though he passed, I still watch for that personality alone.
I'll tell you one thing-- I'll see this first one out of curiosity for what it is, but being as they're bringing back that double-loss Money Cards aspect, I don't think I'll see this one any further than the first show.
I JUST HAD A THOUGHT WHAT THEY SHOULD DO--THEY PROBABLY COULD DO IT TODAY!! I THINK THEY SHOULD DO THIS: FIRST OF ALL SORT OF GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL FORMAT BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE MONEY CARDS!!--MAKE THE $200 AMOUNTS FOR THE FIRST 2 TIERS $2,000 UNTIL THE BIG BET!!-- HOWEVER IF THE CONTESTANT BETS ALL.THEIR WINNINGS & IF THE CARD IS EITHER THE OPPOSITE OF HIGHER OR LOWER OR A DOUBLE-WHEN THEY BUST!--WHATEVER AMOUNT THEY LOSE GOES INTO A JACKPOT THAT THEY CAN WIN IN ADDITION TO WHAT THEY WON THE NEXT TIME THEY PLAY THE MONEY CARDS!!--THE JACKPOT(JUST IN CASE THEY DON,T WIN THE JACKPOT LET IT BUILD & BUILD UNTIL EITHER THAT OR THE NEXT CONTESTANT PLAYS & WINS THE MONEY CARDS!! FINALLY THE BONUS PRIZE IN ADDITION TO THE JACKPOT & WHAT MONEY THEY ALREADY WON SHOULD BE A NEW CAR 🚙!!
The ones that are scary to see for example are: Lower than an ace, another ace shows up. I call those "ibid cards". Or higher than a deuce, another deuce shows up. "Ibid cards" are the 2 cards that are neither higher nor lower than each other.
2:03, 2:17, 2:34, 2:56, 3:15, 3:28, 3:50, 4:08, 4:29, 4:49, 5:09, 5:22, 5:43, 5:58, 6:18, 6:56, 7:12, 8:40, 9:27, 9:39, 10:24, 10:47, 11:12, 11:34, 12:22, 12:40, 12:57, 13:17, 14:10, a tie is a bust; nicer when a tie is a push.

4:50 sounds like the pitched version of the Losing Horns that were used on The Price is Right in 1987 or 1988.
I was off a little. It's actually 5:30
5:25 - listen to the audience awwing after the sorry horn is played

That BUST buzzer is a killer.
4:08 Of all the busts I watched on the show, that one was without a doubt the most heartbreaking one EVER.

WHich is probably why the push rule was instituted during the Eubanks revival

@@juan833blue Yup, and let's face it, Jim really did want the contestants to win...and he gave the cards death glare when a bust-out happened.
@kitarofan87
Same as 10:47, 11:12, 12:07
Mercy, a crap load of double Kings on that top line!
OH NO! This is the painful "BUST" montage in the NBC run of Card Sharks.
The whole shebang, lower than the ace, it's another ace and you've gone OVER!!!
< horn sounds, losing horns play >
13:16
Is there a full video of that BUST? I'm interested in seeing Jim's reaction to Martin changing a 4 into a King.
0:50 Wrong sound effects played. First, the "winning" sound effect followed by a wrong bid, but not a bust, sound effect.
When it comes to the Money Cards, Lady Luck can be fickle;
You can go home with a fortune, or without a Nickel!
That's the reason I like Bob Eubanks' Version of Card Sharks the best although make no Mistake Jim Perry was Awesome too.

Oh what a cut that was Richard
A heartbreaking bust at 0:32 10:47 14:10
Ouch! That hurts.
It has the infamous sorry horn
Tom Kennedy passed away last Wednesday
Dr. trombones with the bust
Luck was not on Jean’s side. Dog gon it!
The woman at 4:44 had really bad luck. I remember watching that episode, it was one of the worst Card Sharks episodes ever.
It was also one of those times where the TPiR losing horns were actually heard in their entirety on the Jim Perry version of Card Sharks.
4:49 - Damn! A double buzzer. First the regular buzzer then the Bust buzzer.
Those older clips with the present horns are dubbed in.
"That's stunning."
This is why that there was a new rule in which pushes were forgiven later on in the Jim Perry version & in the Bob Eubanks version.

How could you bust with a 2?
That was Before the Push Rule
6:53 - Planned Parenthood? Really?
Yup really. Gene Rayburn believed strongly in it.

@Alexander B Brown! And now, Joel McHale.
Jim Perry

Jim Perry and Bill Rafferty
Jack come down here that's terrible
I thought Martin was going to prove the audience wrong when he changed his 4 for the big bet.
The aces are worst to bust on :(

Wow!
Ethan Cua I hate it when they lose on a Double in the Money Cards ♦️! Proof why I prefer the Bob Eubanks version of Card ♥️ Sharks 🦈

That was evil, in moneycards, loss on double
This is the reason why the Eubanks'/Rafferty version of Card Sharks when it comes to the Money Cards was better; a pair is no win/no loss (PUSH)

That rule they had where you lose on a push was a crock.
