Odyssey is my fav album of Yngwie's. I remember first reading a review about the album in a magazine (Guitar for the Practicing Musician, I think it was) back in 1988. I was so intrigued. I finally got a copy of the album in 1993 I think. I had been listening to GNR mostly and thought that Slash was amazing. Imagine how my mind was blown by YJM's guitar pyrotechnics. But one thing that really struck me in particular was how beautiful and melodic Yngwie's solos were. I remember I was terrified the first time I was listening to "Fast than the Speed of Light". Thanks for all the lessons you've posted. They've helped me a lot. Your playing is inspiring to watch.
Thank you very much Barry I appreciate the kind words. That's a great story and thanks for sharing it man I'm sure lots of guitar players can relate about how mind blown they were the fist time hearing maestro especially back then when it was a complete mystery how he's doing all that stuff, it felt otherworldly. I'm glad you find the tutorials useful and new lessons are coming up! Thanks again!
you keep putting out these video's faster than the speed of light!!!! I don't have time to learn it but I still want to support you putting 20 bucks on your Pay PAL hope others are doing the same
I've learned tons of malmsteen licks, but I don't think I've really worked on the cool open string type intro lick! This will be fun to incorporate for sure, same ideas but sounds like so much more is going on using those open notes! ... im almost done learning far beyond the sun, I want to use it and record a version that I can display since I want to teach neoclassical guitar in the area where my wife and I have moved. It's a much bigger and nicer city than where we are from so I may be able to find students hopefully ✨️
Yeah those open string licks sound very effective but they're kinda tricky to play because of the fingering. Open string lick go really well with arpeggios so that's something you can try and combine. I'm glad you're considering teaching it really forces you to focus on your own playing and technique and teaching someone is always rewarding, go for it!
@@chasingfrets thanks so much! Yes that's a great idea with the arpggios, sometimes they can be tricky to set up but if you get in a good position to start it makes it easier. I'm a bit nervous because I'm definitely not as knowledgeable as some of my past teachers about my theory, but I do know tons about neoclassical specifically and effective application on how to actually play this stuff, which I don't think many people really teach, so I'd like to be able to share that knowledge and help players who may be frustrated 😀 thanks again my friend for being so dedicated yourself.
@@JoeS-bv3xu That's right, it's a tricky lick to play not only because of the big stretches but that shape with open string is not something fingers are use to playing very often so it feels almost awkward especially when played fast but it's great technical exercise it really requires precision of movement
@@chasingfrets yes exactly, very well said. Playing it fast can be done, but playing it fast without strings buzzing and ambient noise is definitely a challenge, ill keep this one in my routine for sure and hopefully improve it even more.
Haha, hey man you can send me your e-mail at: chasingfretschannel@gmail.com so I can send you the BT . The thing is I used so called 'stem separator' ( RipX software) to extract backing from the original recording but you can still hear original solo a bit in the background so it's not perfect or anything but it's better then playing over the original song , so if that's something that can help you out I'll send it to you
Great album. Yngwie comes back from the car wreck and I think he sort of overplayed slightly on this album trying to prove he was as good as ever. In any case I thought this, along with the next 2 albums, was his best period.
No argument here, awesome album for sure.In terms of overall quality of songwriting it always comes back to his older stuff, great solos ,riffs, vocal lines, he was really something
I always wondered. If.all those chains he had on wrist banging on guitar messed up sound some. ? It had to. Yngwie plays super loud. And the chains banging on guitar
He is so solid

After a few tries I must say, It's hard to play that intro clean! Especially when switching strings! And definitely a hand workout lol

Do you have any of this tablature available as pdf for purchase? thanks!
Sorry, no
Ese solo siempre quise saber cómo se tocaba el intro, tremendo
That intro part sounds awesome, thanks and enjoy the lesson!
Really nice playing. You need a fret level, though. :)
Hahaha yes I know, playing Malmsteen takes its toll on frets :))) Thanks Robert!
