First, Aventus does seems to be a more men pleaser. I have multiple bottles (2019 and 2020 batches) and my wife didn't like it at first, but its now one of her favorites. I would recommend to anyone here to try Mont Blanc Explorer which is the cheaper designer inspired Aventus clone. I own Layton and like alot of people I get a Vicks vapor rub type feel with the opening, but not in a bad way, I really love it. Baccarat Rouge 540 smells like cotton candy, and again I would recommend Mancera Instant Crush for a cheaper alternative of the same DNA. Amouage is very hit or miss for me, as most have a very animalic or strong opening that I dont like, but some dry down very nicely, one example being Lyric man which is Rose heavy.
She did better than most fragrance experts, get an immediate spray and one an hour in advance !!! Idk why “fragrance experts” don’t do that !! She did well

Great video. First, I've never smelled Saint Julep, but now I want to! Next, as a guy I'd never wear BR 540 Extrait, but it is the BEST scent I've ever smelled. There's a very good, inexpensive clone called Haramain Amber Oud Rouge. I spray my covid masks with it so I can smell it throughout the day. I just can't bring myself to spend full price on a bottle that I don't wear myself. And then there's Layton. It's my #1 favorite fragrance for a guy. No question. Just fantastic. I bought 2 bottles since I got such a great price on them ($125 each for 2 tester bottles). Lastly, Aventus is absolutely overhyped. You're far better off saving your money and buying a $30 bottle of Club Nuit Intense Man since it's a very close clone of the original. I think I'm going to go order some Saint Julep samples now.

I have not been looking for men’s fragrances much lately and I’ve never heard of these brands of fragrances here in Australia. I will have to search online to find out if these brands are available here in Australia. When I do think about buying men’s fragrances, I’ll smell the fragrance and do a skin test to make sure that my skin isn’t allergic to to any of the ingredients used in the fragrance. I’ve enjoyed the three videos that you’ve done on men’s fragrances. Thank you Courtney for doing these videos.
your frag videos are always so impressive. your nose is pretty spot on with the notes, especially considering most youtubers need to use fragrantica to determine the notes they are smelling. imaginary authors is a tough frag to wear. the house is always more artsy than functional for every day wear. aventus is funny because i think men love it more than women, although i have received compliments from women when i wear it. interlude and mfk br 540 extrait are A+
That is refreshing to hear! It’s very difficult to recognize notes when you have no clue what you’re smelling 😂 I can definitely see what you’re saying about imaginary authors. I bought the full bottle so updates to come! 👏🏼 thanks for the comment!
Interlude is one of the biggest love or hate fragances, and i think it depends much on the person that wears it. On my skin just doesn't smell good, but in other people's skin leaves an AMAZING scent trail. From that fragance house i recommend you to try Reflection man if you can. I think you will like it a lot. Nice video as always! Cheers from Chile.
Nice video, Courtney! Based on my experience wearing some fragrances, a smell on the paper may smell DIFFERENTLY on skin. In a future video, if Teddy is willing to wear 7 different fragrances a week and you can compare "Paper" smell and skin smell for the video (maybe a new topic for the channel).
Oooh that’s a good idea! I was just trying to think of a way I could smell it on the skin in addition to the paper because I know it can be different! thank you ☺️
Saint Julep has no performance at all! It doesn’t last or project like at all! Ur right though it’s a beautiful fragrance! BR540 and Layton are my current favs, great video Courtney!
I loved your endorsement for Saint Julep! Definitely going to give it a try; sounds like a great Summer scent. Great video, thanks for sharing Courtney 👏🏻 😀
I haven't smelled some of these but Parfums De Marly Layton is my all time favorite niche fragrance and I am very interested in trying the Imaginary Authors fragrance. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
I LOVE my Amber Oud by Al Harramain and Hombre Leather by Tom Ford! I've definitely received compliments by strangers on both of those! A lot of people rave about Creed Aventus, but I personally did not care for it that much. Courtney, your assistant should give you more of the Tom Ford's. Those are so unique they just blow away almost everything else!
You have an expert nose! Amazing. Saint Julep is out of this world, I am so glad I came across this video; because I smelled it the other day and I was in shock of how good it was, and I never got the name...now I know. Thanks.
Yes! This is the video I have been waiting for. Sadly I have the over-hyped Creed Aventus and agree that it doesn’t live up to the hype or price. I still like it but not without reservations. Keep up the great vids Courtney! I still say you need to hire a better assistant. 😂
I have about seventy-five fragrances and most are 10 ml samples. I do not tell my lady what fragrance I'm wearing and there are a couple that she always enjoys. *Bvlgari - Aqua Amara* *Chanel - Allure Homme Edition Blanche* *Dolce & Gabbana - Pour Homme* *Maison Margiela - Replica by the Fireplace* Gentlemen -- I did the work so you don't have too.
I bought Clive Christian No.1, without knowing how it smells and my reaction was identical to yours at 2:27 haha. But now I like it, I just needed some time to get used to it.
Aventus is a completely different fragrance now than it was 3 years ago. And the one 3 years ago is completely different from 7 years ago lol. In 2019+ Creed has reduced the woody/smokyness to the point where it is almost identical to Mont Blanc Explorer. The uniqueness is just gone.
Can you do one for lower end colognes. For those who can’t afford $100-750 bottles. Or just don’t want to spend that much money. Great video as always!
Just a pro tip, when you get samples it's better if you buy the spray samples. The atomizer does a better job of bringing out the notes in the fragrance than a splash vial. The fragrance develops better when it's sprayed.
@@CourtneyRyan One more thing, stay clear from 1 ml samples, these are splash. Tell Teddy to only order 2 mL samples or higher, these are always going to be spray samples. I know it an can get expensive, so I recommend sticking with the 2 mL. Take care!
This is a great prospective from a woman. Most men reviewing Creed Aventus love it and I like/own it. We wear it to appeal to women so it's great to hear your point of view. And the most reasonable fragrance is the one you enjoyed the most. This is so subjective, but if I knew the woman that I was attracted to loved a fragrance, I would totally wear it! Trial and error.
I love Aqua di Palma Colonia even if it’s a bit very old school and not very long lasting. I’d be interested to see how it fares in one of your tests. Love your vids BTW - always considerate and often witty. You have a good heart!
It’s crazy because I wanted to buy The Creed Cologne to see what the hype was all about. Lol. But now I’m second guessing myself. My best colognes are Dior Sauvage, Chanel bleu and Giorgio Armani Acqua di gio. You will love these colognes. 😊
I have been hearing about Creed Aventus for years but never had the chance to smell it. A month ago, I was in a store that had it and offered samples so I tried some. I was shocked because it was so much different than I was expecting it to be. It was good, but not nearly as good as I was expecting considering all the hype it gets. However, the Creed Green Irish Tweed was incredible. I kept the sample stick and was just randomly smelling it for like 5 days until it wore off because it was so good. Definitely get a sample or go to a store that gives samples before buying, I would have been so upset if i bought Aventus blindly with how expensive it is and the fact that the Green Irish Tweed was so much better in my opinion.
Layton and BR 540 E are 2 of my faves and both beautiful. Instead of interlude try reflection by amouage. My wife’s favorite of my collection! For colder weather cozy gourmand try Ani by Nishane. A lovely vanilla frag.
This is the main dilemma with fragrances for a lot of guys. Most girls tend to love the sweet fragrances more. I however wouldn't like to smell like cinnamon toast, much prefer masculine scents. So do we buy a fragrance to get compliments from girls, or to smell good four our own sake? 😀
Great video. First time on your channel. Subbed, and I’m definitely watching more. I love the concept of blind smelling without seeing the bottle and stack ranking them.
Same here. Although you can find dependable sellers who get tester bottles or others at huge discounted prices. I joined a Facebook group of fans of Parfums de Marly and bought a Layton tester for $125 last spring. When it turned out to be legit (I was worried a little because of the great price), I went ahead and bought a second!
Thanks so.much for doing this, you are such a delightful young woman! Imaginary Authors is getting ordered today! I've never heard a woman be so complimentary about any cologne.
@@Shokomycoco Its good- I like it. Very different from any cologne I have. Haven’t gotten any compliments yet, but then again, everybody is still wearing masks;)
Every man should have a signature fragrance. It's something that might take a while to figure out and develop. Personally I only wear Tom Ford. Love Tobaco Vanille and Noir de Noir.
I like the blind reactions and the ranking system. So far she picked the cheapest ones in each video. Now take the top 2-3 from each video and see how they rank against each other
Layton is a upscale version of Versace Eros and Boss Bottled Intense EDP, you spray them side by side, and you will not be able to tell difference after 30 minutes.
One thing though - the way fragrances smell on the sampling paper may be absolutely different from the way how it smells on a person.Natural fragrances tend to change more how they smell from person to person (compared to synthetics) as oils in mixture come in contact with individuals' body oils.
For sure. The way these videos are formatted would be hard for me to smell all of them on skin but I want to figure out a way to do this in the future!
The thing is that in order to get the correct idea how the fragrances smell in real life, they should not be smelt of the tester strip but rather indirectly of your skin by catching whiffs. In most cases there´s a huge difference how these smell on paper vs on skin vs in the air (how everybody else around percieves you). That´s why e.g. Aventus smells just OK directly on skin, but in the air it leaves a beautifull trail. And what about the Interlude Man? As a non smoker I used to hate incese and true ashy tobacco notes - I find them dirty (quite the opposite of the perfume´s purpose in my eyes). However I started really boldly with Kolmaz Arabi Cana which smells ashy, leathery + slightly fuity ....smells literally like those yellow fingers of an old smoker + ash tray + little bit of dried fruits. I hated it but year later I started to find it interresting and can´t stop smelling it occasionally. Compared to this the Interlude Man smells like a real beauty :)
Thank you Courtney for your thoughts on creed aventus! The drydown is where its at! 😁👍fully respect your opinion. Dolce and gabbana light blue intense is my signature scent as of right now. Whats yours? And teddys?
I need to smell the drydown on a human instead of a piece of paper for sure 😂 Teddy wears something different pretty much everyday but I’ve been wearing mostly Dior hypnotic poison!
@@CourtneyRyan yess! Youre right give it a try ! Usually if you smell it when he walks passed you and get a whiff, thats where the magic is at. Such a sexy smell, the opening smells very fruity zesty. Try aventus for her, see if you like it. Take care and God bless!
PDM Layton lasts 3 hours on my shirt! Purchased blindly from David Jones Melbourne after watching UA-camrs saying, OMG what a smell!! Ooo lalala blabla 😒😒 dry down is like a talcum powder
Layton is just a clone of Versace Eros!! not worth the money and its been heavily promoted by paid reviewers online. There is a girl from your country that she constantly talk about PDM perfumes, she claims that she is not been paid by PDM (wink wink).
Aventus smells good and is versatile, but I do believe it's overhyped. The dry down is much better on skin. I also think Saint Julep is the best fragrance on this list. I prefer the more unique and artistic scents like the ones from Imaginary Authors, Zoologist, and Etat Libre d'Orange.
@@praetorian3571 I’d put all three of those in the same category tbh. They’re all fresh, clean, shower gel-type scents that are pretty mass-appealing. Good if you’re looking for something versatile, easy and safe to wear.
@@jerryyanis Yes all fresh and clean scent profile and there are million other perfumes in the same category, its a safe category and have mass appeal, but its not a women pleaser and do not have a wow factor. You are not going to stand out from the crowd wearing Aventus or any other fresh/blue perfumes. There was a similar video was done, and the girl blind testes Aventus, she didn't know it was Aventus and how much it cost, after she sampled, she said it smell like a "clean toilet".
I imagine saint julep will be sold out now!!! Lol 😂 Hey Courtney, I recommend testing out Ambre Nuit from Christian Dior for your next fragrance video and giving us your opinion. It’s a unisex fragrance however in my opinion it’s more on the masculine side. Your doing great Courtney!!! Keep up the great work. 👌🏻
I would say these are definitely more niche than popular - it'd be great to see you react to some designer ones like sauvage, eros, d&g light blue, prada l'homme, invictus, etc.
I saw the first version of this , as soon as this annoying pandemic and lockdown are over I'll see what I can find from the two posts, Courtney , would you say your female friends would agree with your choices.. in general ?
Great list. Much higher end frags than other video I seen. $$$ is definitely not always better when it comes to cologne or perfume. I've got a $20 bottle that smells like a lemon drop/lemon cello martini, unique gets me compliments often.
Great content, Courtney. I like you're down to earth and real. Would you and Teddy be able to compare the other top-rated colognes from your previous cologne videos? Thanks
You should try Killian fragrances if you like gourmand!! "Love don't Be Shy" is so Good (Marshmallows). A lot of people like "Black Phantom" as well (Chocolate). Nice vid.
Unfortunately, mine isn't here. As it turns out, Drakkar Noir is the only cologne I have found that doesn't break me out in an allergic reaction. I'd like to have seen how it ranks.
100% agreed Creed Aventus is overhyped. I blind bought a bottle and was immediately disappointed since it didn't live up to the expectations I had built up in my head. I own half of the fragrances in this video. I would say Layton is my favorite followed by Bacarrat Rouge 540. Gonna have to find some Saint Julep now. Etsy sells a ton of the small samplers.
In 2021, there are so many good Aventus clones around, don't see the need to spend the money on Creed, and most of the current Creed batches have poor performance.
I’ve seen imaginary Authors before, but I never really gave them any thought. Definitely going to have to check them out now. I’ll probably buy it later down the line. The way you described it makes it sound like a heavy fall/winter scent 😂 have you tested how well it performs? Considering it’s $95 I’d assume it lasts pretty long lol
Definitely check them out! I’ll for sure post an update on Saint Julep since I bought the full bottle. It wasn’t super fall/winter actually because it has a refreshing hint of mint in it too. I could see it working for all seasons honestly!
Honestly, you should just buy the Armaf clone called Club De Nuit Intense Man. It's $30 on Amazon, and it's often rated better than the authentic Aventus. I'm very, very picky when it comes to clones. It has to be 95% close otherwise it's not worth it for me. CDNIM is that close.
The fact that she's NOT a fragrance expert makes her the perfect test subject for this experiment.

Saint Julep has no performance at all! It doesn’t last or project like at all! Ur right though it’s a beautiful fragrance! BR540 and Layton are my current favs, great video Courtney!
That’s what I’ve heard! 😞 it is beautiful though I’m excited to wear it haha I love BR540 and Layton.. they are next on my list to buy 😍 thanks Tim!
Best fragrance video on the internet! Unbiased, clarifying, just great!
I loved your endorsement for Saint Julep! Definitely going to give it a try; sounds like a great Summer scent. Great video, thanks for sharing Courtney 👏🏻 😀
It’s a lovely fragrance! Let me know what you think if you try it out. Thanks for watching 🥰
@@CourtneyRyan I just ordered the 14ml travel size, looking forward to trying it out 💥 Thanks again for the recommendation 👍
Just got the Saint Julep....Love it......👍👍
@@paullucas7053 isn’t it amazing! Yay! I’m so glad you love it
Just subscribed. Love your content.
Thank you so much 😊
Yay another fragrance video! Also Courtney I love your hair dark
Thank you! ❤️
Great video. Really liked the format!
Your voice is so calming
I haven't smelled some of these but Parfums De Marly Layton is my all time favorite niche fragrance and I am very interested in trying the Imaginary Authors fragrance. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
DJ Khalid: another one
Courtney: another fragrance
😂😂👏🏼
wow thats the worst impression ive ever seen
@@100ksubscribersandipostvid5 😂 yeah,
I've never bought a cologne so quick in my life 😂
I LOVE my Amber Oud by Al Harramain and Hombre Leather by Tom Ford!
Thanks.
I love colognes!! 🥰😊 especially ones that get compliments
Sis just when I'm thinking about buying this for me this video pops out 🙌🙌🙌🙌😄🤣🤣🤣 love yu ❤️
Yes! This is the video I have been waiting for. Sadly I have the over-hyped Creed Aventus and agree that it doesn’t live up to the hype or price. I still like it but not without reservations. Keep up the great vids Courtney! I still say you need to hire a better assistant. 😂
Haha glad I’m not alone in that thought! Thank you 🥰
“I think it’s (Aventus) is over hyped a little bit.”
Exactly.
Courtney with another killer video gentlemen! Let's go!
Thank you! ❤️
I have about seventy-five fragrances and most are 10 ml samples.
I do not tell my lady what fragrance I'm wearing and there are a couple that she always enjoys.
*Bvlgari - Aqua Amara*
*Chanel - Allure Homme Edition Blanche*
*Dolce & Gabbana - Pour Homme*
*Maison Margiela - Replica by the Fireplace*
Gentlemen -- I did the work so you don't have too.
OMG! The suspense! Loved the video. 😄
I bought Clive Christian No.1, without knowing how it smells and my reaction was identical to yours at 2:27 haha. But now I like it, I just needed some time to get used to it.
Haha I totally get that. It definitely smells good, just a little interesting at first 😂
These are so fun! Love hearing a woman's opinion on men's fragrances.
I'm going to have to find some samples of these or something. Thanks Courtney!
I got all my samples from lucky scents and they were pretty reasonably priced! Highly recommend!
@@CourtneyRyan Thanks, I've always wondered where to get good samples.
Love your varied facial expressions when you encounter scents you really like, compared to the ones you don't - priceless! 😆
Good job on this video!
I would love to see another designer fragrance video if possible :D
Absolutely! ❤️
Can you do one for lower end colognes. For those who can’t afford $100-750 bottles. Or just don’t want to spend that much money. Great video as always!
Thanks Courtney- you across so genuine and sincere and down to earth.Best wishes
Hey Courtney, I recently stumbled upon your channel and I love it!!! Could you possibly do a video on date ideas during covid? Keep up the good work 😄
Just a pro tip, when you get samples it's better if you buy the spray samples. The atomizer does a better job of bringing out the notes in the fragrance than a splash vial. The fragrance develops better when it's sprayed.
For sure - my assistant learned the hard way 😂 will only be buying spray samples going forward but thank you for the tip! I wish I knew sooner! Haha
@@CourtneyRyan One more thing, stay clear from 1 ml samples, these are splash. Tell Teddy to only order 2 mL samples or higher, these are always going to be spray samples. I know it an can get expensive, so I recommend sticking with the 2 mL. Take care!
@@emiliov968 oh wow good to know! Thanks for the help ☺️
Great to hear! I think you’re absolutely right. Lucky for all of you that I liked the $95 fragrance more than the $750 Clive Christian! 😂
love your reaction and your descriptions were very accurate
I love Aqua di Palma Colonia even if it’s a bit very old school and not very long lasting. I’d be interested to see how it fares in one of your tests.
Love your vids BTW - always considerate and often witty. You have a good heart!
It’s crazy because I wanted to buy The Creed Cologne to see what the hype was all about. Lol. But now I’m second guessing myself. My best colognes are Dior Sauvage, Chanel bleu and Giorgio Armani Acqua di gio. You will love these colognes. 😊
I would buy a sample before committing. I was expecting it to be way better, though I still need to smell it on a person and not just a paper stick 😂
Yo thanks Courtney for this i needed this 💯
❤️ my pleasure!!
Great video. First time on your channel. Subbed, and I’m definitely watching more. I love the concept of blind smelling without seeing the bottle and stack ranking them.
Thank you so much! Happy to have you here 😊
Brilliant work Courtney!
Thank you! ❤️
Layton is my all time favorite! Expensive but worth it!!
How do you like it?
@@Shokomycoco Its good- I like it. Very different from any cologne I have. Haven’t gotten any compliments yet, but then again, everybody is still wearing masks;)
Every man should have a signature fragrance. It's something that might take a while to figure out and develop. Personally I only wear Tom Ford. Love Tobaco Vanille and Noir de Noir.
Currently only own Layton but next is Herod and then the MFK 540, can’t go wrong😍
I like the blind reactions and the ranking system. So far she picked the cheapest ones in each video. Now take the top 2-3 from each video and see how they rank against each other
Hey! I love the way u explain in detailed ❤ by the way I adore people like you... 😚
Thank you! ❤️❤️
@@CourtneyRyan hey, why can't we catch up in Instagram
I'm a big Fan of Aventus but i really appreciated abt ur opinion Beauty so hopefully more to come alright. Cheers!!
I'd love to see her react to either aspen or green irish tweed... I really like this series
More videos like this it was awesome!💯👏
In the exact second Interlude appeared i laughed and thought: "How daring Teddy was to make Courtney smell the Blue Beast with that animalic notes"
😂😂 Blue beast is so accurate lol
Layton is a upscale version of Versace Eros and Boss Bottled Intense EDP, you spray them side by side, and you will not be able to tell difference after 30 minutes.
One thing though - the way fragrances smell on the sampling paper may be absolutely different from the way how it smells on a person.Natural fragrances tend to change more how they smell from person to person (compared to synthetics) as oils in mixture come in contact with individuals' body oils.
For sure. The way these videos are formatted would be hard for me to smell all of them on skin but I want to figure out a way to do this in the future!
@@CourtneyRyan I have an idea...🤣🤣🤣
Don't have any. I work at Lowe's so there's not a lot of perfumy (?) guys there. There might be a bottle of old spice around here somewhere
I loved your interlude description.. lol. You were right on.
😂👏🏼 hippie store!!
Forget about the UA-cam from own country, saw reviewers from Germany, US and then we made the stupid purchase 👎🏻
@@Memespark PDM offers free bottle to youtube reviewers to promote their products. You will see all over UA-cam!! buyers beware
Yes Aventus smells good, but compare to what other perfumes? Polo Blue or Bleu de Chanel?
Lol 😂
Hey Courtney, I recommend testing out Ambre Nuit from Christian Dior for your next fragrance video and giving us your opinion.
100% - this is definitely the niche edition 😂 I reacted to those in a past fragrance video so go check it out!
Post comment coming after I watch video...great way to start the day...first to comment !!!! Peace and love Courtney
Wooo you’re the best! ❤️❤️
Hey Courtney you should do a video with Jeremy Fragrance and in that video you should do a top ten fragrances for all seasons all occasions.
I saw the first version of this , as soon as this annoying pandemic and lockdown are over I'll see what I can find from the two posts, Courtney , would you say your female friends would agree with your choices.. in general ?
I think they definitely would! Though I think a lot of my friends love floral scents so they may have liked Clive Christian more than I did!
Great list. Much higher end frags than other video I seen. $$$ is definitely not always better when it comes to cologne or perfume. I've got a $20 bottle that smells like a lemon drop/lemon cello martini, unique gets me compliments often.
Chanel Bleu is fantastic; I often get compliments!!
Great content, Courtney. I like you're down to earth and real. Would you and Teddy be able to compare the other top-rated colognes from your previous cologne videos? Thanks
Thank you so much! I’ll definitely be doing more fragrance videos in the future and that’s a good idea for one! 👏🏼
You should try Killian fragrances if you like gourmand!! "Love don't Be Shy" is so Good (Marshmallows). A lot of people like "Black Phantom" as well (Chocolate). Nice vid.
so I think the last place one is that stuff I call hippy juice, its very annoying when I am near someone with it
Unfortunately, mine isn't here. As it turns out, Drakkar Noir is the only cologne I have found that doesn't break me out in an allergic reaction. I'd like to have seen how it ranks.
#6: In another video she said how she doesn't like "smokers". So that "smoky" scent didn't have a chance. She reacted negatively to it.
I thought the Versace Eros that I bought recently was expensive! The least expensive one is the best! I love it, and I'm sold!
@@CourtneyRyan Thanks Courtney, You’re the GOAT.
I’m going to buy creed Aventus looking a mazing 🔥🔥
Honestly, you should just buy the Armaf clone called Club De Nuit Intense Man. It's $30 on Amazon, and it's often rated better than the authentic Aventus. I'm very, very picky when it comes to clones. It has to be 95% close otherwise it's not worth it for me. CDNIM is that close.
I hear the performance on Saint Julep is horrible have you tested it out yet? I hear it lasting an hour or so before it becomes a skin scent.
It’s a beautiful fragrance but unfortunately that’s correct. The performance is really poor
@@CourtneyRyan :( damn i was going to look into it oh well i will smell it one day and hope they bring out a intense version one day.
