I'm an older woman with urgent bathroom needs at times. I feel that if you switched the toilet over to where the shower is and put the shower where the toilet is, it would solve your door issue. Cause when you got to go in a hurry you may not make it around the shower wall to the toilet in time. Also, by moving the shower to the other corner you would be able to have room for the door to swing in without having a conflict between the bathroom door and the shower door. So to make it plain have the toilet straight in from the bathroom door. That would give the door enough room to swing open and closed. Hope this helps.
Suggest from someone with a handicap bathroom: fit as many grab bars as possible. By the stool on the outside wall and on the shower wall facing the stool if it’s within Mama’s reach. Also, inside shower as well.
Please read this: Personally I would switch the toilet to where the shower is and sink where toilet is. Because usually you gò in to, "do your business" and wash hands. Also if she needs a walker everything is more wide open that way (and sink could be a tiny bit wider). As it is she'll have to scootch around the shower possibly bumping her toes to get to the toilet.
As I watch you guys trying to figure out where the shower, toilet, and vanity are going to go, and how they will or won't fit in that bathroom space, I am over here thinking... you all need some graph paper! 😀My daughters and I have always enjoyed drawing out house plans, cottage plans, and furniture rearranging plans with graph paper. You can see exactly how everything will fit and where it should go. You basically did the same thing with the painters tape, though. I would definitely put the shower in the back corner and the toilet where you have the shower, tho.
I'm sitting on a fancy hotel room right now.. They have a frosted glass barn door to the bathroom.. let's light thru.. but if mama has someone in her house they can use the door only if needed.
They do sell corner showers at stores like Home Depot. They aren’t expensive…..that would probably give her more room and she could have the wider door.
I use an app called floor plan. It's so nice to just plug in the dimensions you have and design from there. They even have icons for toilets and tubs etc to rearrange to know if it will fit in right or not. It allows you to customize the size of the items to exactly what you have. It also has a 3D button that will let you scroll around to get a really nice view of your layout! ❤ Love the step stool!
Please move the toilet a quarter turn to the right. There should be 24” in front of a toilet. It is so nice to have a window in the bathroom, even if it’s small. It would fit nicely above the toilet. There are small sinks about 9” deep. Building a small cabinet for it would be relatively easy. Put the sink on the wall that you put the toilet on originally, in the corner. That would give her the space she would need in front of the toilet. For the door how about using the shutter like closet doors that fold in half. They also come in solid panels. I would be happy to help with the layout any way I can.
Just a suggestion- toilet straight ahead for easy access--shower to the left with door on the left of the shower. If a sink doesn’t fit they do make a sink that fits on top of toilet lid or use kitchen sink. 💜
I like the first idea because it give her even more room to move around even with the round shower door. Switch the shower and toilet will give her more room along with handle bars for support.
Your momma is precious and she’s blessed to have you two.❤ Just thinking about the bathroom …if you put the toilet on the same wall as shower and do a custom catty corner vanity it would open up the space and give more room if she ever has to have a walker and also a skinny cabinet could possibly be used on the wall next to vanity for storage. Shower would also look good in the corner and vanity straight across from the door and the toilet where you have outlined for the vanity would also open up the space. Just couple of ideas that might help moving around better in a small space. I’m sure everything will turn out lovely. Blessings ❤️
You don't need a door. You need at least a 36" doorway and put up a good quality curtain. It's still a lot cheaper than a door. It works for me in my tiny. If I may suggest, instead of a vanity, get one of those little sinks that sit on top of the toilet cistern and where you were going to put the vanity, put shelving or a cupboard for storage. There are always things you need to store. Or you could put in a cupboard with enclosed areas top and bottom and a sink and taps (faucets?) in the middle at a height that is comfortable for her. Good luck.
Agree with others to switch the shower to the back wall. I know you have a shower but corner one could give you more room. Being 75, I put in a larger door when I redid my bathroom. Momma doesn't realize the difference in door size for the future. Barn door will give the most room but an accordion door is still better than door opening into the small bathroom. It would be nice if you could place the bowl and vanity in there to really see how they fit.
Have you looked into the corner showers. Jared had one in Oklahoma and Eddy Family Farms put one in their shed to house. Since mama is small it should be fine for her and it will take up lots less space.
Since there will be a door to the bedroom that could be closed for privacy while using the bathroom i would just hang a nice curtain in the opening the bathroom. If she had company in the main part of the house, closing the bedroom door would cut down on "noise" from the bathroom.
Toilet where the shower is , then a corner shower that is half face round then keep sink in place. More open space. Shower could have door or shower curtin
I just love the way you both wok together I use to love remodeling my home when i could. due to lack of mobility I cant do it but I sure enjoy watching you both you are some awesome people and fun and silly love love you all. You make my day i love to watch you all you give me energy and hope..
Would there be more room for her if you swap the toilet with the vanity? She will need to have room to turn around at both places with a walker. It is hard to tell how much room there is.
Is it necessary to put a door on the bathroom? The way you have the bathroom layer out, you will only see an enclosed shower door from the bedroom. Also, turn the toilet so it faces the vanity. That way, Grandma will be hidden behind the shower wall and she does not have to squeeze in between the shower and commode to sit down. Another plus, the plumbing will be on the same wall Just a thought. Know Grandma will love having her own place.
Hi guys, maybe you should put the shower against the back wall then put the sink and toilet on the shower wall, that should relieve room for the door. Good job so far. Thanks for sharing.
We have a 24 inch bathroom door and we hate it. We both have used the walker and had to turn the dang thing sideways to go through the opening. They do make very narrow sinks for tiny houses. It might be a good idea to look into it for that tiny room. Than it could fit on the bedroom wall and the toilet could face the sink. It's just a thought. Love, love your videos.❤
I would swap the toilet and shower, also how about a curtain rod with a curtain for her door...❤ you could make her a metal one if you had some clean metal. Have you thought about storage shelves for towels and stuff ? Just my thought, stay safe❤
It's going to be a tight squeeze to sit on the toilet next to a shower wall. Maybe swap the sink and the toilet so she doesn't have an obstruction as she is sitting and getting up from the toilet. Just a thought. 🙂
Very cute bathroom, just a couple ideas you might want to think about. I have seen them place corner showers kitty corner at an angle giving more space to enter. Also all the doors that I have seen on a tiny home bathroom open outward not inward for ease of entry and ease of exit. Just suggestions. You might want to think about. If she's only going to have a single bed in the corner maybe easier to have the door swing outward not inward.against the wall you created for the bathroom.
BATHROOM; she won't need to use a walker in tight spaces, with well placed hand rails, so block all walls well, to be able to mount any hand rails, even to pull herself up out of bed, when our mom was having issues getting up out of bed, we raised the bed just an inch or two. Her walker then can be her robe hanger near the foot of her bed. Neighbor built his wife arm rests for their toilet, so his wife could get a tad bit of leverage, are you sure you want the toilet facing the shower, or against the side wall facing the cink? You can always do a dry run before you install, once you get the toilet inside
24" is closet width. They do make very shallow vanities for tiny homes. I have one in my regular big home that the sink circles out further than the vanity.
Why not move the shower into the corner? That would give you more room to open the door you could put the toilet next to the shower and the sink where the shower is now. Just a thought
HAPPY DANCE APPROVED! ❤You two Work So Well Together, like a Well Oiled Machine. 👏 I think it Will Be Momma Approved as Well ! ENJOYED VIDEO! ❤God Bless Stay Safe & 🙏 and for Desi ✌️. MUCH LOVE
We just got through re-doing our bathroom. We put the pan in the floor and hired someone to come do all the tile work in the shower. It is so nice to just walk in to take a shower, we love it! Everyone that comes by loves it! We put a grab bar and a shower chair in it too so I am more comfortable and reduced the risks of falling. I had fallen a couple of times by getting my foot hung up on the bathtub. I just feel so much safer now!😊❤
I’m just saying, the shower should’ve went in the very corner the toilet next to the shower and the door should’ve came straight off the front she would have more open space and less likely to twist and turn
Why not build the bathroom across the entire back wall put the entrance door on the right side facing the entrance door that way she would have more room around her bed. Just a thought.
OTHER DOOR` once you figure out where the other door is to be positioned, would she like a temporary window put in, that can be relocated, when the El is built
And bathed in kit hen. Finally we put 2 rooms on front for our 4 kids room and living room. Later a bath built off parents room. After I moved out, they built 2 upstairs bedrooms.
My 5’ x 7’ bathroom is on the west wall near the north end of the house. Don’t know how cold it gets there in the winter but we live south of Chicago. When our bathroom was put in (we had our former 1-1/2 car garage turned into a bedroom with a 3/4 bath) the flexible ductwork was installed under the floor and in the bathroom an index-card sized hole was cut in the ductwork under the bathroom floor to allow heat to flow to keep the pipes from freezing. Plus you could put a corner sink in Mama’s bathroom to save space. Just sayin’. I love watching the progress on Mama’s house! I agree the toilet should be on the side wall so there’s more knee room when the toilet is in use.
What about camper size bathroom fixtures? I may actually have some in the old camper here that yall can have. The old camper still has all the bathroom stuff so yall can come get whatever you want out of it.
Looks like she needed a bathroom built out thur a doorway from the back of the shed ,making her bedroom and bathroom bigger, plus give her more room for back door, just a idea
🦋🌷🌄🐕Good to see the walls of bathroom going up. 😎👏🌻👍🤔Progress is good to see.🦚🙈🤟🙉🖖🙊🌱 Blessings prayers and peace always remember.🐘🙌🌼🙏💐✌️🕊️If in the. future , the need arises momma has to have a walker you may put in bars for handicap.🌞🖐️😀 Momma may consider a shower bar also. 🌷🐕🌄

Had the same exact thought.
I thought the same thing.
I agree that shower is in a bad spot the toilet needs to there she gonna regret later down the road not doing a better door opening forget the door
Bigger

Why not just leave a door off of Mamas bathroom? It will give her more room to walk around. It will be just her living there by herself anyway.
I'm sitting on a fancy hotel room right now.. They have a frosted glass barn door to the bathroom.. let's light thru.. but if mama has someone in her house they can use the door only if needed.
A pocket door would work
They do sell corner showers at stores like Home Depot. They aren’t expensive…..that would probably give her more room and she could have the wider door.
❤ I think Mama will be fine cause shes tiny & doesn't need much space. Its going be perfect for her❤
you could use an accordion door, that way it doesn't have to open into her bathroom or the bedroom
I thought the same thing.
Don’t forget to put extra support for hand rails. Looks good

Put in a pocket door for the bathroom so you don’t need to worry about which way the door swings
You guys are so great. what an awesome thing to do for Moma. she will be excited to have her own space.
Just a suggestion- toilet straight ahead for easy access--shower to the left with door on the left of the shower. If a sink doesn’t fit they do make a sink that fits on top of toilet lid or use kitchen sink. 💜
Maybe check into a corner shower with a curved door, like for an RV.
Really looking good can't wait to see 8t finished
What I did on my brothers bathroom,is we used a double wide shower curtain. He lived by himself and it was easy to get his wheelchair in
You could do a plastic accordion door, its not really big, closes with a magnet.and not really expensive.😊
I like the first idea because it give her even more room to move around even with the round shower door. Switch the shower and toilet will give her more room along with handle bars for support.

Since Moma is alone she could do an accordion type door in your 36".

HOW ABOUT BUILDING A BUMP OUT FOR THE SHOWER, WOULD MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE
92* 🔥and very humid on the Gulf Coast Rusty and Rachel 🥵🇺🇸

Mamas tiny house is going to be awesome!!
If you put grab bars around the room she could use those for support. Just a thought.
Maybe you could use 2 18in louvered doors, like you would use on a closet!!!😊🎉❤ Just a thought.
Or maybe a trifold acorddian door!!!
Put a barn door on the bathroom for more room

If you are going to put in a prefab shower in you need to put it in before walls.
Maybe you could used a floor blind that fans/folds to the sides on a track. (As a door to the bathroom.)

I’d put the toilet where you have the shower. Pay in a corner shower.

Awesome job guys 🤘
Thanks!!
Make the bathroom door wide enough for walker or wheelchair.
A curtain would be an option to a door. You could have the opening as large as you want
I've also seen fancy glass doors with decals on them for privacy. French door style.
👏👏you guys are doing an awesome job. Momma is going to be so happy. ✌️🇺🇸❤️
Small 32" corner shower
you could even use a bi fold door also
Perfect bathroom layout 👍. Good job! ❤

Hey there Rachel and Rusty😊❤
Need to put a board in each corner that you attached your walls to the outer walls so you will be able to attach drywall to.
Awesome job
I vote pocket door
Well, maybe you can re-use their wire anyway!!!😊🎉❤
I see the vision of the tiny house 🏠 😊❤
Hope the shower fits through the doorway to the bathroom! Momma will love it!
Rachel and Rusty you gave me the go ahead to section off my shed for my bathroom
Great job guys. Grandma will be comfortable in her tiny house. Take care.
Put the shower in the corner the vanity by the window and the toilet where you were going to put the vanity

You could leave the top of bathroom open no ceiling.

A custom shower will be great!!
Skip a vanity for she can use kitchen sink
❤❤❤❤
Great editing.
a barn door would look good

Make sure there are mirrors to reflect light. 15:44
Use bifold doors
Lease room taken up

I hope you put the shower in its spot before you hang the 2nd wall!
I think the shower should be where the toilet is. I'm 75 and trying to get around the shower when I open door would be a problem.
Why not build the bathroom across the entire back wall put the entrance door on the right side facing the entrance door that way she would have more room around her bed. Just a thought.
Put some heavy curtains in place of the door
Google small bathroom sink. There are several even corner sinks.
Suggestion on the door how about a slider, pocket door or barn style
Great work! I would have done the layout on the floor too to make sure everything fits. Boy that bedroom area is a tight fit.
It is a tiny house. Not a full size. Lol
Thank you!
Just a idea turning the toylet around so mumma has room for her legs/ getting up an down from toylet..
So exciting I love tiny house builds!

I have a PHD...Piled High & Deep!! LOL
Put a curtain up for a door
So exciting watching you guys do this for your momma!! I am in Calif. and love your programs!!
Just a sugestion swap sink with shower and move door to front just an idea
How about a sliding barn door?
Looking pretty good
What about camper size bathroom fixtures? I may actually have some in the old camper here that yall can have. The old camper still has all the bathroom stuff so yall can come get whatever you want out of it.
