He loved to brawl. He was always spoiling for a fight. He never liked running away, it’s evident as he’s always the last warrior in the group whenever they’re running (turnbull acs, orphans, cops at the subway, the furies.) I’m sure he would’ve stopped and fought the furies regardless if cowboy was tired or not, he wasn’t even the one that checked on cowboy, swan was

When they were filming this scene, some local hoods came along and were stealing hubcaps and stuff from the equipment. Walter Hill says that James Remar, in full costume, chased them all off down the street, promising to kill them if they came back. Apparently Ajax wasn't an act. He was a real 'Warrior' and worthy of the vest. Which he still owns to this day.
We were young, crazy about "The Warriors, " which had just been released. San Diego, two fellow punks from New York City arrived, Mitch and Ronnie. Of course, I had a million questions about NYC street life. Their favorite catch phrase was "what now Brian? What now? what?

Also, the character, Cyrus, was originally supposed to be played by an actual gang leader of one of the top gangs in Brooklyn. But at the time of filming he didn't show up so he was replaced by Hill. A few days later the film crew had found out that the actor/gang leader had been murdered just hours before filming.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and this scene felt like it was by far the most intense. Specially the chase and the way the music set it like that. Another intense scene was with the guys in the skates. My favorite parts of the movie.
Can shake your hands, have been watching it at least 2 times a year since 1981, seen it in 5 different countries, have the video, 3 dvd versions and carried it on all my mobile phones. Remember watching it the 1st time in 1979 in London, went back the next nioght to see it again. Watched it in New York with a very wild crowd getting into various fights from enthousiasm. It is an absolute classic
Warriors Fun Fact: The gang, Baseball Furies, were a mix between director Walter Hill's favorite baseball team, the NY Yankees, and the rock band KISS, who was one of the biggest bands in 1979. It is also based off of a real East Bronx gang called "Second Base". There is also a reference to this gang by the radio DJ when she says "The Warriors have now made it past second base..."
Love this movie and love this scene. the Baseball furies were easily the coolest looking gang. I also like the subtle scene on the subway near the end. Where Swan and Mercy are sitting opposite the posh kids and Swan stops her from adjusting her hair as though he's saying 'you have nothing to prove to them'.
Baseball furies is my 2nd fav due to the warpaints, silence, and bats. The Boppers are my 3rd fav because their outfits were cool too and they all had a chill vibe to them.
My favourite scene. When Ajax says where are they and you can see they're all lookin at something, you know it's about to get serious. Just goes to show you don't need fast cars and vin diesel to make an epic chase scene. A great film that has never been remade. Thank God
Warriors Fun Fact: The director, Walter Hill, had originally offered the role of Cowboy to Robert DeNiro, who turned it down. The role of Swan was offered to Tony Danza, who was said to be very interested but had also turned it down because of his role on the hit sitcom, Taxi. Finally, the role of Mercy was originally offered to Sigourney Weaver, who had also turned it down for unknown reasons. Although, I am glad she did because Deborah Van Valkenburgh played the part of Mercy phenomenally. I just couldn't picture anyone else playing that role.
@@jeffcase7827 .. There's something about Deborah's face and Persona that make's her unique/suit the role sets her apart from most any other actor, how these Movie Company's find the right People every-time is Amazing and Most beyond me but it's Magic every-time, I've never come across Disappointment when they're casting actors for a Movie that it's almost like there's a "Movie God" that arranges certain actors for certain parts that absolutely fit perfect it's un-canny ..

They've got vengeance on their minds, they don't talk, and they don't appear to run out of steam. I'd be shitting myself seeing that yellow face break the urban horizon... holy shit.
Absolutely love this bad ass flick. They just don't make them like this anymore. Warriors come out to plaaaaaaaay. Still getting this saying in my mind 40 years later. Damn I'm old.
@@Vashdastampead plot armor lol. You got a whole gang with bats and you get your asses whooped by 4 unarmed dudes and one of them were passed out lmao.
This is probably my most favorite scene of the movie. Even though the furies got their asses kicked, it was still a good classic chase scene. I love how when they start chasing them in the streets, they were basically sprinting after them, but you can see once they go from the streets and into the park, the music really picks up, and the furies all started going full speed after them, because basically they knew there'd be nobody in the park to see them attack the warriors (guessing)
Caught this a few years back as a 35mm presentation at the Alamo Draft House. 4 guys came in together dressed as furies, complete with face paint, and got a 200+ person standing ovation.
I was nine when this movie came out and a cousin took me to see it. It wasn't the kind of movie my parents would have let me see. Seeing that movie was about the coolest thing I'd done up to that point and it remains one of my all time favorites. I dreamed of starting a street gang like The Warriors. hehheh.
Lol i wish i was born in ur era im from 99 and i remember playing the game and watching the movie at a sleepover we loved the movie so much we made a gang at school in honor of the warriors we then controled the whole school untill our leader got knoked out in a fight -i guess thats what u get when u play with power
Hehheh, the movie did have that affect on boys. The 70's were a great time to be a kid in, for sure. I was a white kid in a brand new suburban neighborhood full of middle-class kids who had just about everything we wanted. We had no clue about gang life on the bad streets of New York. And it really was bad in the 70's, I've heard.
IronheadOfScroteus there was a kid movie like that new neighborhood u got whatever u wanted it seemed pretty awesome now look at how crap my generation is they just sit on there phones it sucks dude it really does
oscar wharehinga You guys will probably be just fine, the constant staring at phones does worry me, though. I wouldn't trade the time we spent tearing around the neighborhood on bicycles, skateboards, and big wheels for anything, though. Catching lizards and snakes, water balloon fights, ahh, those were the days!
IronheadOfScroteus I first saw this back in 1982 when I was 8. Stayed up late, and snuck down to the living room with my older brother to watch it on HBO. Great movie awesome memories.
Alrighty Boppers , our Warriors are running for their lives. Just made it past the Orphans turf. Run safe thru the nite Warriors,.. I was 5 when it came out , my first time seeing it i was 8 . it was the coolest movie ever, Then you have The Outsiders. Do it for JOHNNY man , became a regular saying in my neighborhood..... But you have to love this movie the warriors, my favorite seen was the Furie Fight seen. A Timeless Classic. To all you Boppers out there , Keep Cool.......
I watched this movie when I was 10y/o and I remember the Furies scared the crap outta me right up until the fight was on. Now, the only thing that scares me about this scene is the thought of running myself into a heart attack as soon as I got across the damn street!
My Uncle took me to see this movie, back in the late 70's.. . I remember the scene where the Baseball Furies were haulin ass thru central park.. the whole theater said, "holy XXit!"
actual track athletes were used and were then intercut with the actors and stuntmen running too (e.g. the group as they pass the park bench just before cowboy says "I can't make it" are true athletes but earlier when cowboy and ajax are in the dark by themselves running towards the camera it is actors and stuntmen chasing them) - that is why the bbf cadence varies throughout the scene - it wasn't always the same people running - the heavy face make up made it easy to disguise that fact
The best scenes from the movie for me. Back ground music is great, fight scenes are well acted, one of the furies being a stuntman and Ajax's lines are immortal. 'Popsicle' and 'wimps' great dialogue. Shame that the character was written out so soon after as he was the best member of the gang.
Warriors Fun Fact: The entire movie was shot on the streets of New York City at night. They would begin at dusk and work until dawn at 6am. When filming was finished, both the actors and directors were so exhausted that they slept for 2-3 days straight. Also, the only scene shot inside a studio was the restroom fight between the Warriors and the rolls skating gang, The Punks. Which took a whole 6 days to film, 14 hours a day.
That's ridiculous Hill should have been fired. 6 days 14 hours a day for a two minute fight scene? Disgraceful. A competent director would have shot that scene in less than two hours.
So nice of the Baseball Furies to stand there politely and wait their turns to fight the Warriors one at a time. Very civilized gang. Also, that makeup has to be a lot of trouble to put on every day.
Just the use of battle strategy in this scene has always been my favorite part. Swan and Snow split off so they could come back behind them, completely surprising them, like an army unit flanking the enemy to save their fellow soldiers
Lesson to all. . . .when one relies on weapons, one forgets how to fight with their fists. Still have a VHS copy of this great movie. I was a senior in high school when it came out.
That's a very good point. You can become so proficient with a weapon that you don't know how to fight without it. That is why Japanese samurai also studied and practiced jujutsu. Other warriors around the world simply carried secondary weapons to use in case they lost their primary ones.
I love this scene, and the music is incredible. That being said, I thought it was real nice of the Furies to stay back, watch their comrades get their asses kicked one on one and patiently wait for their turn. Awful "sporting" of them, 'scuse the pun.
My guess is that its their 'code'. A single batter steps up to the challenge, and when he goes down another takes his place. Or maybe they thought they were good enough one-on-one.
Great stuff. Love how it was shot at night in real time. And Barry De Vorzan's score really carries this scene. He also did the music for director Walter Hill's debut, 'Hard Times' (1975.)
My favourite part of this awesome film has just been played, thanks, this chase is made all the better because of the awesome music, The way it builds up drags ya in and without it there is no tension from start to finish of the chase at all, Love it.
i love this scene.i think everything they have gone through leading up to this point & the music slowly kicks in while the camera pans across & also it is the first time ajax shows concern.
It was - all throughout the 1970s and 80s. It was still bad in 1990 after the crack cocaine epidemic. It's pretty safe now. All the streets leading off Times Square are narrow and dark, whereas Times Square has so much neon it's almost like daytime at night. But those dark little sidestreets off Times Square is where all the muggers used to hang. Not anymore. You should check out NYC sometime. I lived on E. 44th Street in Midtown Manhattan, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. Too much cement and sidewalks, really.
Warriors Fun Fact: President Ronald Reagan was so obsessed with this movie that he wrote "thank you" letters to both the director, Walter Hill, and Michael Beck (Swan).
Dear lord this is uncanny... Literally yesterday in my oral communication class, I recreated the Cyrus speech. The student before me gave a Reagan speech. I shit you not
That is not true. It was Reagan's press secretary who called actor Michael Beck telling him Reagan enjoyed the film at a screening at Camp David. That is a far cry from Reagan being "obsessed with the movie".
ChargerBullet Why couldn’t he be obsessed with it? Maybe he didn’t tell the whole world. Long time ago to dig into a inconsequential truth. I sense some dislike for the second greatest President ever, the first being Trump.

I remember watching this movie as a kid and this scene felt like it was by far the most intense. Specially the chase and the way the music set it like that.
Another intense scene was with the guys in the skates.
My favorite parts of the movie.
The Orphans were lame, just threw a molotov cocktail at the car and that was it, they got wasted
I absolutely loved Ajax in this scene. He was so badass
Love this movie!! It's a cult classic!! I'm 61, watch it several times a year
To me, I could alternate watching The Warriors, and then watching what I think is another cult classic, Escape From New York
@@waynegrubb3291 With out a doubt. Both great movies
"CAN YOU DIG IT?!?" I can! ❤ this movie!!
^^^@Mr Mayhem .. Wow! Thanks for that Fun-fact Geekaz! ..
yes you're right, the whole film is the metaphor of a baseball game. Each subway station conquered, each rival gang eliminated represents a base.
Very cool info very creepy guys
The Baseball Furies were highly trained stunt men.
I like how most of them were just standing around waiting to get punched out.LOL

i watched this movie 100 times as a kid and it still never gets old
My mom asked me why I watch The Warriors all the time. I told her, " cause I just like watching stuff like that ".
You should of said FOR WHAT❗
Funny dude
Luther would be proud
It’s a CLASSIC..GOOD ON THE BIG,SCREEN,,😂
Love this movie and love this scene. the Baseball furies were easily the coolest looking gang. I also like the subtle scene on the subway near the end. Where Swan and Mercy are sitting opposite the posh kids and Swan stops her from adjusting her hair as though he's saying 'you have nothing to prove to them'.
So true,, she still was more beautiful than the spoiled posh chicks,,she had nothing to prove to anyone there and he made that point very clear.
Baseball furies is my 2nd fav due to the warpaints, silence, and bats.
The Boppers are my 3rd fav because their outfits were cool too and they all had a chill vibe to them.
A true cult classic.
This is one of the first cult movies ever.
My favourite scene. When Ajax says where are they and you can see they're all lookin at something, you know it's about to get serious. Just goes to show you don't need fast cars and vin diesel to make an epic chase scene. A great film that has never been remade. Thank God
Shhh! Delete the last bit, before someone in Hollywood finds it!
@@peterclarke7240 Ain't that the truth!
Sowas kann man nicht neu verfilmen. Genau so wie die Neuverfilmung/2. Teil? Von Rollerball voll für das Klo war
I am very impressed about how both the Baseball Furies and the warriors can run long distance at top speed. They should go out for track.
^^^@Mr Mayhem .. Yeah me neither ..
You never know Sigourney could have also been the Mercy you never would imagine if anyone else played her.

1:18 Absolutely terrifying. Just seeing the unknown, voiceless and essentially faceless bastards appear. Just knowing they want you dead, or hurt, really badly.
They've got vengeance on their minds, they don't talk, and they don't appear to run out of steam.
I'd be shitting myself seeing that yellow face break the urban horizon... holy shit.
Yes! I remember watching this when I was young. The leader scared the shit out of me. lol
+Will Marsden I like the way you put that. If there were a first-person novelization of that scene your words would be perfect.
Love the way Ajax and Swan exchange looks after they have kicked the shit out of the Furies. Total respect for each other. Brilliant Film.
Brotherhood from diff sides of the tracks of life long ago
Absolutely love this bad ass flick. They just don't make them like this anymore. Warriors come out to plaaaaaaaay. Still getting this saying in my mind 40 years later. Damn I'm old.
I respect how the Furies waited on the on deck circles until it was their turn to step up to the plate...and get beat up.
+Robert Recchia True sportmanship.
@@Vashdastampead plot armor lol. You got a whole gang with bats and you get your asses whooped by 4 unarmed dudes and one of them were passed out lmao.
I believe the furies are actually top tier but for movie sake they got nerfed
Now imagine if Cobb was in the movie, he would've hulk smash every single warrior lol
@@breadwithbeard Forgot about that guy. The game was S tier
I was 18 when this movie came out , me and 9 friends dressed up as the furies for hallowen
I was 18 as well,I think that was a VERY POPULAR costume for teens in '79...Good choice.
We are going to be 60 next year, wild eh !
And were you not set up by chance by a true gang?😁😁
damn you are older than my dad ._.
That’s awesome
*_This movie is good....REAL GOOD_*
The best
The best.
I used to be in a gang where we dressed like hockey players, but we got our asses kicked constantly because goddamn it's hard to run in ice skates
Lmaooo XD
This is probably my most favorite scene of the movie. Even though the furies got their asses kicked, it was still a good classic chase scene. I love how when they start chasing them in the streets, they were basically sprinting after them, but you can see once they go from the streets and into the park, the music really picks up, and the furies all started going full speed after them, because basically they knew there'd be nobody in the park to see them attack the warriors (guessing)
The soundtrack to this scene is incredible !
One of my favorite movies of all times!!!
1979 and the warriors ..was a great time ...was 10 years old miss those days.... ...long gone in the mist of time ..
I was born in 1982 but have watched it spanning my entire life. It's hard to beat.
Same but 1984.
Greatest movie ever.
Caught this a few years back as a 35mm presentation at the Alamo Draft House.
4 guys came in together dressed as furies, complete with face paint, and got a 200+ person standing ovation.
Figured those 4 guys were wimps 🤣
One of my all-time favorite movies!
I REMEMBER SEEING THIS IN THE MOVIE THEATER AT THE AGE OF 14....NOW AT 55...IT STILL HITS HOME....
Always get the chills when Ajax says "holy shit" and the furies leader appears with a bunch of guys behind him along with the timing of the music 🖒🖒
That was actually Cowboy that said that.
I like when snow sees the Furies coming over the hill and he says “holy shit” in such a subtle yet scary tone.
This is my favorite clip from the film. Best action.
I was nine when this movie came out and a cousin took me to see it. It wasn't the kind of movie my parents would have let me see. Seeing that movie was about the coolest thing I'd done up to that point and it remains one of my all time favorites. I dreamed of starting a street gang like The Warriors. hehheh.
Lol i wish i was born in ur era im from 99 and i remember playing the game and watching the movie at a sleepover we loved the movie so much we made a gang at school in honor of the warriors we then controled the whole school untill our leader got knoked out in a fight
-i guess thats what u get when u play with power
+Zekrib gamer I was 12 to 13 years old When the Warriors movie came out. Loved it when the Warriors beat those baseball mime wannabeees!
I remember watching this as a kid and just remembering how menacing the furies looked
I watched this movie when I was 10y/o and I remember the Furies scared the crap outta me right up until the fight was on. Now, the only thing that scares me about this scene is the thought of running myself into a heart attack as soon as I got across the damn street!
Warriors Fun Fact: This movie is fucking amazing, and so are you. Yes, you.
Nice
👊🤘
the game is a classic as well
💪🏽👍🏽
😁
The days are young. Whn you hear that, Always tough . Not old . Warriors. Happy Proud .Strong
Mr. Mayhem man they had better given me a big check for working those hours.
And it paid off, forever a classic favorite
My favourite scene in the film that fight. 😃
The Lizzies lair was in a studio as well? Or someone's apartment?
That's ridiculous Hill should have been fired. 6 days 14 hours a day for a two minute fight scene? Disgraceful. A competent director would have shot that scene in less than two hours.
So nice of the Baseball Furies to stand there politely and wait their turns to fight the Warriors one at a time. Very civilized gang. Also, that makeup has to be a lot of trouble to put on every day.
They were used to standing on Deck and waiting their turn😂 never thought about the makeup... maybe they only came out at night !
Watched this movie in '79 as I was only 13 yrs old and still watching it yet i'm at 55 😎😎😎
One of my favourite movies from the seventies. Great show
The warriors was a movie that was a favorite of mine, it was a great movie, one I've never forgotten. For me, it was a classic!
Love this scene and the music Ajax is. My favorite
I've never in my 67 years heard a voice so perfect and life affirming. My god bless Mary
Just the use of battle strategy in this scene has always been my favorite part. Swan and Snow split off so they could come back behind them, completely surprising them, like an army unit flanking the enemy to save their fellow soldiers
At least the Furies fight fair.
True
Not really they used bat's warriors didn't
@@LiamOwen1991 they didnt gang up on them plus they got their bats from them mid fight 😂
@@marioguy6486 missing the point
Lesson to all. . . .when one relies on weapons, one forgets how to fight with their fists. Still have a VHS copy of this great movie. I was a senior in high school when it came out.
That's a very good point. You can become so proficient with a weapon that you don't know how to fight without it. That is why Japanese samurai also studied and practiced jujutsu. Other warriors around the world simply carried secondary weapons to use in case they lost their primary ones.
Ultimately the best part of the whole movie “THE chase”.
43 years later and this movie is still popular, a classic.
Brilliant strategy by Swan! Great choice for War Chief!
I know this movie word for word. Can't name a favorite scene. Was my favorite movie for years.
I love this scene, and the music is incredible. That being said, I thought it was real nice of the Furies to stay back, watch their comrades get their asses kicked one on one and patiently wait for their turn. Awful "sporting" of them, 'scuse the pun.
+Rob Grosch "Alright, Bryan is down. My turn to get my ass kicked!"
+4640jds "coney island"
My guess is that its their 'code'. A single batter steps up to the challenge, and when he goes down another takes his place. Or maybe they thought they were good enough one-on-one.
Rob Grosch 4:26 the furies in front and behind Ajax are literally standing there jerking their noodles while the action is going on lol
That was so funny! Wait your turn. OK. Still love the fight
Love how all odds are against them exhausted,no weapons, outnumbered and still 3 warriors easily beat 9 people with a baseball bat
Great example of simple dialogue, great music and a cool ass concept combined 👌
Great stuff. Love how it was shot at night in real time. And Barry De Vorzan's score really carries this scene. He also did the music for director Walter Hill's debut, 'Hard Times' (1975.)
Batter up. My favorite movie and scene.
My favourite part of this awesome film has just been played, thanks,
this chase is made all the better because of the awesome music,
The way it builds up drags ya in and without it there is no tension from start to finish of the chase at all, Love it.
walter hill ---one of the best film i ever saw^^😀😃😄
The best scene of the whole movie.
Second best fight scene.. Bathroom Fight RULES!!
Office workers Monday to Friday having some fun on a Saturday Night in the 1970s! Good times (love this movie)
i love this scene.i think everything they have gone through leading up to this point & the music slowly kicks in while the camera pans across & also it is the first time ajax shows concern.
i imagine 1979 NYC was a pretty rough ole town.
In the 70's, New York was basically Gotham City.
Saw this at the theater first night opening.
Best scene in my opinion.
Ajax was my favorite warrior character…….I was a sophomore when I first went to the drive-in to see it with some friends.
Sountrack to die for. This film is just Perfect.
Warriors Fun Fact: President Ronald Reagan was so obsessed with this movie that he wrote "thank you" letters to both the director, Walter Hill, and Michael Beck (Swan).
Dude, are you serious? It doesn't seem like a movie that he would enjoy lol. That's awesome though
Reagan knew decent movies, being one of the few conservative actors who got to the presidency.
ChargerBullet Why couldn’t he be obsessed with it? Maybe he didn’t tell the whole world. Long time ago to dig into a inconsequential truth. I sense some dislike for the second greatest President ever, the first being Trump.
4:26, love that part, the guy is just standing there waiting to get some!, lol

I remember seeing this when it first came out, i was six at the time. I like how Ajax expression went from "where the hell are they" to "who the hell are they".
An epic chase and fight in motion picture history. The choreography and acting was brilliant. The Baseball ⚾️ Furies underestimated them.
