I'm on my second time watching this video, it's so much great info, but I had to watch a 2nd time cause it's so much great info! That's a good thing. I'm still debating which one, but thanks to you I've narrowed it way down. 🎉
I remember renting a car once when mine was in the shop. It was from a site where people can rent their own cars. The profile of the car I rented stated they had a carseat for an extra $5 per day and stated it was safe for our children. I immediately thought, "You do? How do you know that? You don't know the size of my child." It wasn't a problem for me as I didn't need any. I just hope no one does that or they ask the owner for the requirements.
We definitely don't recommend renting car seats, so I'm glad you didn't! Most of the time, it will not be the right kind of seat and often they are missing pieces or expired as well.
Do you have a favorite one? I own Nuna Rava nd I love it but it’s too heavy and bulky to travel with. I’m looking for one that won’t be heavy bc I’m traveling alone with my toddler but it’s obviously safe.
Not really. on our recommended seats page, which I'll link, it has an airplane icon on our favorite travel seats and it's more updated than this video. All of the seats have Learn More pages for the pros and cons that might help you decide. safeintheseat.com/sits-recommended-car-seats/
Hello! Thank you for this video - do you know which car seat would work best for cars with lap belt only? Considering these work on the plane, would they be safe / installable in a car with only a lab belt? We are traveling to Brazil and most cars there have only a lap belt in the back seats
Thank you for your insight on traveling with car seats! I have a 4 1/2 Year Old who is 41”, 38 Lbs. I'm having a tough time deciding between the Evenflo Maestro Sport and Safety 1ˢᵗ Comfort Ride for them. Which would you go with?
Whichever one you find cheaper when you go to buy it as they both last a similar amount of time for most kids. We haven't had good luck with the backless booster mode of the Comfort Ride fitting kids, so neither seat would be the last one you need. The Maestro is only good in harness mode and has 50 lbs/50" limits, but a tall harness height. While the Comfort Ride works well in both harness and high back booster mode, but has a much shorter harness height. You might want to measure the child's torso height before buying as well. The Comfort Ride has a max torso height of around 16.5" and the Maestro's is about 18." The Comfort Ride's high back booster mode can be used until a torso height of around 18.5."
Also, as you talked about rental cars with other people in the video, let’s talk about what happens if you did bring your own car seat. What is the safest way to install your own car seat if you did bring it if it just so happens to be very close to your child’s nap time and it’s dark and your child’s car seat is rear facing and you wanna make sure you’re absolutely sure you know what you’re doing but you’re absolutely sure that you know that you’re not. I’m trying to meet with a local CPS T but she is super busy and I think I might need to meet with a local one at my police department.
If you have practiced installing your car seat before you go on the trip, you shouldn't have any issues installing it in a rental vehicle. There's no need to meet with a CPST at the trip's destination.
It has FAA approval. Make sure you are able to carry it over your head for 10-15 minutes, as you'll need to do this to get it down the aisles of most planes. That's why we recommend lightweight seats.
For a toddler 16 mo plus - over 30 inch height, and over 22 lbs, can they sit in an x-small ridesafer travel vest? The ridersafer website, states the minimum age is 2 year old. Would this still be ok to use - the toddler already walks alone, climbs and can hold him self up.
Absolutely not! It's never ok to go against the manufacturer's minimums. It is in fact illegal to do so. Please choose a safer option for your toddler. We don't even recommend putting 2 year olds in the vest, we prefer to see kids that are 4 or older using it.
I will be traveling with my 1 year old so we want to make sure she is rear facing. She will also be in that car seat for a extra 2 months for traveling. Since we are doing rear facing on the airplane would you recommend the maxi cozi or the Safety 1st?
Hello Izabela! The BeSafe Stretch B is a great seat! But it cannot be used on a plane. Nachfolger Hy5 is the only seat that has TUV approval outside of infant seats.
I am in need of a second car seat for my toddler that is also good for travel. We are bringing it on the plane for my 21 month old but also want something that is easy to install and get a proper buckle for when the grandparents watch her. I bought the Cosco scenera but found it hard to install and buckle her for my parents who are inexperienced and the fit was tight from front to back in the car. Our everyday seat is Evenflo slim revolve and love it. Do you have any suggestions?
safeintheseat.com/13-best-car-seats-for-airplane-travel/ I would recommend checking out seats 10-12 on this list. They will be easier to install than the Cosco Scenera Next.
It's a bit on the heavy side for a travel seat, but it would do. Other than the different inserts, it's identical to the Chicco OneFit, which you can find a bit of info about here: safeintheseat.com/chicco-onefit/
Has anyone used the Graco Contender 65 Convertible Car Seat on a Southwest Plane? My son is 11 months and about 25lbs and we’re looking to purchase a rear facing lightweight seat that we can also use in the car in Miami
Hello, Thanks for video! Can You tell, who have experience in traveling with car seat and cart. What should I do with cart before gate. I should disconnect them (seat and cart). And after that cart is like separately "hand baggage"? red bags for holding strollers / car seat (when it goes to the baggage department ) will give us in airport or i should buy it earlier? And also kid can dive in that cart+seat till his place in the plane? Or I shoud disconnect if and they will go ?
I have a question: I have the Graco Tranzitions/Ways and i looked for the airplane sticker that says is FAA approved but nowhere to be found it does not have it so i read the manual that it comes with and is confusing i cant really tell if it is approved or not... my question to you is if this seat is FAA approved or not???? Im about to take a 5 hour flight and i would really loce to take this seat with me since my 2 1/2 year old baby is very active 🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️ please help asap and thanks in advance 😊
It is, and there is a sticker on the side. It will have red lettering. It's approved in harness mode, but not in booster mode. It says this, just with more words.
Yes, I have flown with car seats on an airplane. Would you know how to adjust the belt so the buckle doesn't hit right in the middle of my kids' back? We use an Evenflo Chase Plus 2-IN-1 Booster Car Seat and Evenflo® Tribute™ Convertible Car Seat
I am between the Graco contender go and the century drive on. We live in FL fly to NY where my family is. Plan is to ship a car seat to NY and leave it there and use the cares TSA seatbelt on the plane when babe is a bit bigger. Which seat do you like better for use 2-4 weeks out of the year and baby is in the 2nd percentile, 18 lbs and barely 30” at 15 months! I’m taking into consideration that we may fly with it in the future and my parents are older so the weight is a consideration. Thank you!!!
Can I install Nuna Rava on Hawaiian airlines for my 12 month old? The airline website said the seat width is 18inch. But Rava is 19inch. I'll be flying with wife and kid so we will take up the 3 seats in one row and not get in the way of another passenger.
I believe it does fit on there, but I would not strap a child into it whilst it's on the stroller. I'm not sure that you can get it secure enough for that. The Cosco Scenera Next does fit quite well on the Mountain Buggy Nano and I have seen many people strap their child into the car seat as well when it's attached.
@@safeintheseatjust as safe? Or safe enough to pass the US safety regulations? What I’ve learned from the fb group is there definitely are some that are safer than others. Sorry not trying to sound snarky, just seeking clarification
They are pretty different. The Maxi Cosi is much smaller, much lighter, short-lasting, doesn't have a seat belt lock-off or a no-rethread harness. The Maxi Cosi Romi is the Cosco Scenera Next with a different cover. safeintheseat.com/cosco-scenera-next-usa-canada/

All of the US harnessed car seats can be installed with just a lap belt. We highly recommend that you only use the seat rear-facing if possible

It does have aircraft approval. There will be red lettering on a sticker on the seat that says so.
Is the Graco Affix high back booster a safe booster?
Yep

The Century Drive On is a few pounds lighter. Both last similar amounts of time.
does the babytrend trooper seat fit when it's in rearfacing position? It seems way too long to not bump into the seat airline seat in front of it.
You have to put it more upright than allowed in a car, that's the case for most car seats when on an airplane
car seats are very heavy how do you carry them like back packs, it scares me, I even cannot lift it and place them on car. :(, is it just me.
Some are very heavy, but there are lightweight options as well that are under 15#.
