The german Band "Kraftwerk" created the first electronic music in the 70's. A long time before New Order. Search for "Kraftwerk". You will find easy here on YT

I was 13 when this song dropped in 1983 but I believe I didn’t really hear it until I was 15 or 16. What a decade to be a teenager. Loved New Order. They still sound great!!

I was 24 following Joy Division in 1979-80 and I continued through the New Order Days. Going to see them in Toronto on Sept. 17th with the Pet Shop Boys. Can't wait.
The 1980s were the most amazing years for music and there was some absolutely and truly wonderful bands. And are still going to this day. 🎹🎹🎶🎶🎶🍻🍻

i was barely a teenager when New Order and Joy Division were all we listened to. Now in my 50s and you guys are still out there. Nothing but respect.
you can probably also see Peter Hook & the Light for a cheaper, in a more intimate venue, probably just as good a show. Whether he's in New Order or not, seeing all the original members (him, Bernard, Gillian and Stephen) play live is on my bucket list.

I was born in 1971, grew up in the 80's, so I listened to a broad variety of music. I loved the hair bands. Motley Crue, Metallica, etc. But I really love Blue Monday by New Order, the beat is awesome. I graduated in 1990.

I was in a disco one evening whilst on holiday in Spain. I was on leave from Saudi Arabia. There was a beautifully tall Spanish girl dancing to this song on the dance floor! She was a fantastic mover! I couldn't believe how good it all became! Never forget this!

I was 17 when this came out and was visiting family in UK.. fell in love wit this song , bought the record and brought back the USA not even on the charts yet . I taped it to a cassette and played it at school and everyone wanted a copy and made a lot of friends because of it . Ty New Order ❤

Né de la séparation des Stooges en 1974, «The» New Order est un supergroupe hardo-crado-punk réunissant les deux compagnons de route d'Iggy Pop, le guitariste Ron Asheton et le bassiste intérimaire Jimmy Recca, ainsi que le batteur du MC5 Dennis Thompson. Cet appel provocateur à un «ordre nouveau» (neuordnung en allemand), mot d'ordre du régime hitlérien, n'est sans doute pas un hasard : feu Asheton collectionnait les uniformes nazis. Il a même eu la sinistre idée de jouer en concert devant un drapeau orné d'une svastika. La pochette de leur unique album montre les trois hommes tout de cuir vêtus, l'air menaçant, couteaux sanglants en main.

L'ultime provocation de la jeunesse dans le monde rance de la fin des seventies était d'utiliser des références qui allaient horrifier les parents comme celles ayant trait au régime nazi. Après s'être baptisés Joy Division (du nom des terribles bordels des camps de concentration), les quatre survivants au suicide de Ian Curtis adoptent un New Order qui sent encore la référence à ce sombre ordre nouveau cher aux nazis. Sauf que c'est un peu plus compliqué. C'est Rob Gretton, le manager du groupe, qui aurait trouvé le nom en 1980 suite au titre d'un article du quotidien The Guardian, «The People's New Order Of Kampuchea». Devant les critiques les accusant de manipuler des symboles douteux, la bande à Bernard Sumner a toujours affirmé qu'elle ignorait tout des connotations négatives attachées à cette référence polpotienne. On n'est pas forcé de les croire.

Unforgetable song. Bernard is losing his voice, but no matter, is always nice to see him sing... and the band performance is fantastic. We saw then in 1988 in Brazil and they come again in 2019.... Regards from Brazil.
I don't think Bernard ever really had a good singing voice, but this sounds much better than usual; he knows how to mask his limitations with a more stylized delivery now.

This was my favourite song of all tme for several years. I remember listening just to this one song 3+ times per day for almost a year.
The myth behind the song (according to Bernard) being the original studio version was accidentally lost/deleted. It was far superior. Can you imagine. So I guess this is the re-imagined version. Still epic and timeless.
Apparently it was to do with the drum beat. They originally "borrowed" it from Donna Summer then Steve apparently kicked the mains lead out of the drum machine which meant it dumped everything an had to angrily rewrite it. That's what Hooky said anyway.

Heard this at the beach in 1983 for the first time and it's still after 40 years a great song. I do still have the 12 inch (the floppy disk) on vinyl, with on the A-side Blue Monday and on the B-side The Beach. Time flies.
