We need to not make assumptions about the reasons for reshoots. Sometimes it's because they had a new idea that they want to include, and they decide the cost of adding it in, or making a change, is worth it.
When Marvel comics put all of their young heroes on a team in 2016 and called them The Champions i knew that's the direction a live adaptation was taking.
Not necessarily trying to play the race card but my question is why is there all these creative issues with the black characters in the MCU? No T’challa recast. Blade movie in limbo. Cap 4 bad reviews. Casting aside and not recasting Kang? I’m starting to wonder if as much care, interest and attentiveness is given to these movies as others. So frustrating😤
Champions was originally a comic in the 1970s with Black Widow, Ghost Rider, Angel, Iceman, and Hercules set in L.A. The second Champions series was the one mentioned in the video.
The minute they started introducing Young Avengers members in Phase 4, I guessed they'd probably go with the Champions team name. Using "Young Avengers," while fine in comics, dilutes the "Avengers" IP brand name in movies. Champions also makes sense since Kamala Khan is putting the team together, and she was in the Champions in the comics but never a part of the Young Avengers.
I don't agree that it dilutes the brand, but I don't think "Young" anything is feasible in an MCU that's doing as much as they are today. At least not in live-action
@@famousthaneus9810 You may not, but I can assure you the execs at Marvel Studios would have discussed brand dilution with the possible name. They want to maintain "Avengers" as their flagship marquee name associated with films. I also agree that the "Young _____" wouldn't sell well with a wider audience in live action.
I really don’t believe Champions is the title that sticks. I realize that Young Avengers might not be best fit by the time it is made, but I feel like Young Avengers would be much more recognizable and marketable branding
If you think 2 co-emperors doesn't work, explain the famous "triumvirate" (3 co-emperors) that replaced Julius Caesar. Having 2 works just as well as, if not better than, what historically has happened there.
IT IS A MUCH BETTER IDEA TO INTRODUCE THE YOUNG AVENGERS IN A TV SHOW WHERE THEY CAN DIG MUCH DEEPER INTO ALL THE CHARACTERS AND MAYBE GIVE THEM FUTURE MOVIES IF IT IS A HIT
I think the idea behind people being 'hit over the head with a message" is perhaps that a lot of people didn't seem to be picking up on messages when they are subtle, for whatever reason. How many straight men miss the subtle messages that straight women are sending them, dating wise? I'm university educated and I missed that stuff all the time. Another example is Star Wars. Those that say, "why did Star Wars get so political?" don't understand that it always was, right from the start... They just didn't see it. Either because they were too young, too caught up with the action, adventure and explosions, or don't see good vs evil as politics. The old Mitchell and Webb sketch "Are we the bad guys?" comes to mind. To me, war is the ultimate expression of politics, when two sides have reached an impasse that can only be resolved by armed conflict.
Making a political thriller in 2024 is so much different than Winter Soldier in 2014, especially when Hydra was the fictional villain organization in that film than using a real-world figure like the President of the U.S. I've always been worried Marcus Spellman might get too political especially after his handling of Falcon and the Winter Soldier & it's preachiness towards the end. I just want Captain America: Brave New World to be a fun ride but the Marcus Spellman of it all makes me apprehensive. With all that said, I think I read somewhere, there was dissatisfaction with how easy Sam Wilson beats Red Hulk. It could be Marvel Studios wanting this fight to be worth all the promotion and show Sam's struggles during the fight a bit more.
The two major issues with Gladiator II: 1) bad / underdeveloped script and 2) this screamed "theatrical cut." CLEARLY a ton was left on the chopping room floor. I'm very curious to see whatever Director's Cut there is out there. I think it might improve this version of the film a thousand fold a la Kingdom of Heaven. But that's just a hunch / guess. 🤷🏽♂
This was exactly my POV & why I was never tempted to see Napoleon in theatres as Ridley announced even before it went into theatres that he had a longer cut that would arrive on TV and as you say his cut of KoH was MUCH better. This certainly seems the wiser route, if there is a longer cut don’t mention it until post theatrical cut has had its run.
I think it was not going to be Young Avengers for a while. They went out of their way to end The Marvels with Kate Bishop pointing out to Ms. Marvel how far she is from being a teenager in the very first MCU allusion to a future team. By the time a project is shot most of the team actually will be in their thirties.
History of Rome is far away from this film, very far away. Go read the period of the Roman History. Commodus didn't die in an arena, I don't think. After Marcus Aurelius, Commodus reigned for 13 years. There were coups with 4 guys (emperors), and Septimius Severus ends up as emperor. Severus had two sons who weren't twins, but who were supposed to reign together, but Caracalla killed Geta just after Severus died and the brothers became Augusti... So, 0 (zero) history of Rome in this film. To be fair, it's loose in the first one as well. But the first one deceives a little better than this new one. By curiosity, also Marcus Aurelius had a co-emperor at the beginning of his reign, Lucius Aurelius. Both Marcus and Lucius were adopted by Antoninus Pius, who was adopted by Hadrianus, who was adopted by Traianus. Traianus was considered the best emperor except for Octavianus Augustus, the very first emperor.
I feel your frustration, and that stood out to me as well. But I have 2 friends named Xochitl, and they pronounce it differently from each other too. And it's an Aztec/Nahuatl name rather than Hispanic, so it's not necessarily in the Outlaw's wheelhouse.
@StaminaMC Nah man. Tricky to read, thats the key. It requires you to know non-english letter sounds. So reading it off a prompter without knowledge of the letter sounds would definitely cause an english speaker to mispronouce it
The marvels was the full culmination of chapeks interference. I was looking forward to the marvels and it was very disappointing. Hopefully with fiege having more control again cap 4 will pull it together.
Agreed, it was meh. But the sort of beat for beat repetition is frankly what I experienced w/ the original having come out so shortly after Braveheart so to me seems par for the course w/ these. The biggest motivation for the original to me always seemed to get a fully realized representation of what the Colosseum would have been like given the latest archaeological research & advent of CGI. Throw in some commentary on the American dream & the rot of empires & voila, a movie. The story of the twins raised by a wolf is not that of Caracalla & Geta, it was that of Romulus & Remus as the founding myth for the city of Rome. It’s presence in the film serves to highlight how far Rome has drifted from its founding / to highlight myth vs reality. But does parallel the death of one brother. Caracalla & Geta were indeed joint emperors along w/ their father Septimus Severus who was the last to seize power during the year of 5 emperors after the assassination of Commodus. After Severus’ death, they couldn’t share power & Caracalla had Geta killed in his mother’s arms under the guise of a peace meeting in their mother’s apartments. Caracalla’s praetorian prefect Macrinus (so loosely Denzel’s character) had one of his soldiers kill Caracalla in order to install himself as emperor (for like a year until he was executed & on & on & on & on…). I think Connie Nielsen is substituted here for the twins mother in order to provide the continuity from the previous film. I think Ridley & team expect that if we want to know the specifics of the actual history, we can just look them up & as w/ the original he’s merely using it as a framework for the bread & circuses mirror he’s pointing at us.
Meant to add that to Shannon’s point it might have helped to have a scene w/ the passing of Severus to set the stage for what their joint rule was meant to be. But knowing Ridley & his extended cuts… 🤷♂️
As far as name wars /- Young Avengers v Champions 🤔🤔🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ Are the tent pole films after avengers secret wars going to be called Avengers?! With mutants around?!? There’s not enough calendar time for full avengers team movies and xmen team movies etc…. And how efffing OLD are the young avengers gonna be ?!? The actors are all aging quickly….Iman velani is already 22 years old!!!!!!!!!!!! “YOUNG “ Avengers as a title was always im jeopardy…as soon as covid and strikes hit…..OR recasting!!😮😅…
RMB had some bad things to say about Cap 4: "Can't make CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD work. The conception of the film was compromised in every way from the get go. Then, the world shifted from beneath the film's ground. Now, they're trying to fix something that cannot be fixed, because it was fraudulently created." "It was put into production with a script which didn’t work with a director out of his league they felt the Execs could fix. Yeah. How about NO."
Yeah, Justice league was finished. Zack’s justice league was finished. They just re-shot the whole damn movie which was bs and more expensive and that’s the biggest Takeaway from this movie expensive. Is it already over 300 million for Captain America 4
I believe they should’ve made a falcon movie. Maybe you should’ve made a falcon and winter soldier movie I don’t know, but I believe they should’ve made a falcon movie. He did not need to be Captain America. He’s falcon.
There's no way Brave New World comes out good and make up its budget. That movie was always gonna be bad but they delayed it by a year and now end up with 3 round of reshoots?! This movie will be a Julius Onah in name really, whose idea was to hire a guy who made The Cloverfield Paradox? Marvel need to stop hiring low key director just for show and have their comitee in the background basically make the movie.

I'm so on board for a Young Avengers/Champions movie or show. Kate Bishop is one of my favourite additions to the MCU.

That was not the criticism. It was that they were underwritten and terribly acted. Not that that it didn't make sense to have two emperors.
Great show guys
Yay! Thanks for posting today! Love y’all’s show! 🎉
Woohoo, a Boxing Day gift from Netflix
IT IS A MUCH BETTER IDEA TO INTRODUCE THE YOUNG AVENGERS IN A TV SHOW WHERE THEY CAN DIG MUCH DEEPER INTO ALL THE CHARACTERS AND MAYBE GIVE THEM FUTURE MOVIES IF IT IS A HIT
Katee Sackoff should have been Captain Marvel. She actually has a personality and comedic timing
Very interested to see how the Leader is used in Cap 4 😃

I'm old enough that The Champions was a Marvel team made up of hercules, ghost rider, angel, iceman and black widow.
John's pronunciation of Xochitl made me want to throw my laptop. Come on bro...

Maybe you should do some therapy for that anger and I'll work on pronouncing her name better. We can both learn from this experience together. 😏
To be fair, it's an effed up name to pronounce
Tricky to _spell,_ perhaps. Pretty easy to say.
@StaminaMC Nah man. Tricky to read, thats the key. It requires you to know non-english letter sounds. So reading it off a prompter without knowledge of the letter sounds would definitely cause an english speaker to mispronouce it
