  • This match features two greats from the 50's and 60's as Lou Klein and Gene Dubuque face off. Lou Klein rose to fame under the name Bastien with his wrestling “brother” Red. Klein then switched back to real name and wrestled across the country, especially in the Detroit area. Dubuque would rise to even greater fame wrestling under the name The Magnificent Maurice. He would team with Handsome Johnny Barend and go on to headline Madison Square Garden and across the northeast.

I knew Gene D. when he lived in Las Vegas around 1963-4 thereabouts. We were first acquainted at the Globe Health Club on Chas.Blvd. The last time I saw Gene was at Golds Gym in Venice,CA. in the early seventies. He was a very pleasant man, and I was always impressed by his humble manner. He was ten yrs older than me, so he would be 91 if still living.

I always thought Magnificent Maurice was a great wrestler...an incredible combination of skill and dirty tactics. There are very few of his matches online. I'd love to see more buddy!

When I was a kid I met Lou Kline in Allen Park at his gym it was a chance meeting. I was a wrestling fan also I used to watch all the professional wrestlers at Cobo Hall the time it was great. My dad after WWII went to the YMCA in Detroit he bet against Lou Kline one time and he never did after that he bet Lou Kline every time and he never lost money regardless of who klein wrestling I mentioned that the Lou Kline to his face when I was 13 years old and he told me back then nobody could beat him when he was young. I talked to him for 10min or so he had a cool German accent nice guy.

Bill Stern was a big time sports announcer in his day, but you can tell he thinks he's slumming, calling a wrestling match.

Best part was 6:03 when Klein leapfrogged the Ref and started pounding away on Dubuque 😂

I seem to remember Lou in the 70s wearing a glove to apply a claw hold to the arm pit. Am I remembering correctly??

Can anyone narrow down the date of this? Maybe a little more specific than a decade.
