  • Here is a great match featuring Pat O'Connor squaring off against Bob Orton Sr. from Fred Kohler's Chicago territory. Pat O'Connor, the popular wrestler from New Zealand, would go on to win the NWA Heavyweight Championship from Dick Hutton. He would hold the belt until losing to Buddy Rogers in 1963. Bob Orton Sr was a hated heel across the country and under a mask as The Zodiac. His sons Bob and Barry along with grandson Randy followed him into wrestling.

I saw Bob Orton Sr. wrestle Bruno Samartino at the Boston Gardens back in the late 1960's in a title match, only he used the moniker Cowboy Rocky Fitzpatrick. Being from the East Coast I had no idea who he was until I read about Rocky Fitzpatrick.

I saw Bob Orton wrestle with Bob Jr. against Eddie and Mike Graham in West Palm Beach in 1976.

Chicago must have been quite a place for pro wrestling.

Orton was crafty and dirty in one package. He might have swiped the last dollar bill out of his grandma's money jar if you did not watch him. Dirty Bob got beat whether he liked it or not. O'Connor was power from Down Under. The New Zealand King rides again!

This match is a good as it gets. Bronco Lubich was supposed to officiate this important match but he got hold of some bad shellfish that day at lunch. He was unable to answer the bell so to speak.
