Lowes does not make batteries or power tools. Kobalt is a Lowes brand, but that 80V tool line is made by Greenworks. Greenworks also seems to make Kobalt 40V line. Chervon (Ego, Flex, Skil) makes Kobalt 24V power tools

Murata is a very good very well know brand in the electronics components world !

Not sure about Murata but companies could easily put any name on cells. You can buy wraps with Panasonic sony or even custom designs. They shrink to custom fit with hair dryer. Rewrap batteries are common from china. The truth is you never know. The quality cells will have noticable higher weight...

i was thinking that the other day someone made a video here on yt about exactly what you said, and i saw myself where you could buy those wraps already printed and ready to shrink on cells...that's very sad

09:30 Murata is a large, well-known Japanese manufacturer of a wide range of electronic components. I use a few of their small surface mount components in my home-based electronics design & prototype manufacturing business. Grandpa Google is your friend - type 'murata' into the search bar of a blank tab on your browser...
I worry about your casual attitude towards ripping the spot-welded nickel tabs from the ends of the cells - you may be damaging them - I can see where the ripped spot welds have deformed the end electrical terminals - have you thought about the possible damage internally? You recognize the potential fire hazard, but apparently don't understand how the cells are made & where they are vulnerable to abuse. To remove the tabs, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to GENTLY roll the tab from the terminal so that you are not pulling directly against the terminal.
FYI, the circuit board with all the connections to each cell is a balancer card - during charging, it makes sure that all the cells charge to the same [usually 4.2 volt] end-point. Otherwise some cells in the series string will gradually overcharge, while some will undercharge.

What exactly are you basing your statement that this is a "weak" battery. It is a 2ah 80v battery. It is what it is. My mom has a lawn mower that uses this battery and it works quite well. I have a chain saw, weed wacker, and leaf blower that use this battery. All work very well.

i had it for few months on a tool and sometimes it would simply refuse to start at all..and the battery would just show empty even when i just charged it...i meant that it is build very weakly in my opinion...i have 80v batteries from Atlas (Harbor Freight)...for my Atlas lawnmower and it's been over 2 years so far and have had zero problems with them, which to be honest i thought Atlas would give up faster..maybe my kobalt was a faulty unit...idk...i am not sponsored to say good or bad about any of these companies...i get tools and review what i personally see, i will get more Kobalt towards this summer and maybe they will change my mind, i'm very open to any company to change my mind...i'm not really a fan of a particular company, i only care to tell you my viewer the truth of what i see and how i see it...will let you know when i buy more Kobalt, maybe it was this unit alone.

Ive heard about harvesting but i wouldn't know what to recycle the batteries into. The vape batteries hurt me in a personal level.

My mower came with two batteries, one works just fine the second one won’t power the movers after 10 minutes of use. It shows 2 bars still charged. I can charge fully and use for 10 minutes consistently. I’m thinking the problem may be a bad cell. Thanks to this video I will now take it apart and test for bad cells, hopefully it’s only one or two. While I’m doing this I was thinking of upgrading the battery to 4 ah. Any ideas how to do that?

sometimes the BMS may not be able to handle the control of all the cells, it's not neccessarily a bad cell as much as it might just be either overcharged or undercharged cell or cells, check them individually before you take it apart when inside...maybe you just need to take out one or two, recharge them to the level of the rest and it should all be good...make sure you have some kind of welder to put them back on.

My kobalt 80v battery screws have stems on them to prevent removing them with a t10. Any ideas how to remove them?

    • @OMNITEK

you need what's called Torx Security these ones : amzn.to/47dCEwN ...they have a hole inside that fits around the stem...otherwise find a small pick and try to remove (break off) the stem carefully and you can remove them with regular torx.

    Hello,
How can I charge the kobalt 80V battery without the factory charger ? I want to charge it on the bike if this is possible. Thanks !

Murata makes way better batteries than Samsung and LG
in my book, they are far more superior
often found in top end Makita or Dewalt and some Milwaukee one time
my take is they are more expensive
    more robust way way better
