- The list of male R&B groups that exploded in the ‘90s is long and diverse. Some are immediately distinguishable from hearing the first note of one of their songs like Boyz II Men, Jodeci or Dru Hill. Others, like Special Generation may have flown under the radar but, still produced equally tremendous talent. The group consisted of Marquet Robinson, Kendrick Washington, Fernando Allen Carter, Charles Salter and Maurice Dowdell.

Special Generation did their thing on MC Hammer's song Have You Seen Her
I always thought it was Felton Pilate that helped produce their album and music with Hammer and their album after Hammer.
Was just thinking about them after your Perfect Gentleman video. Spark of Love is my JAM
Thank you for covering them
I used to love there song Spark of Love and Love me just for me . Very underrated group.
Great to hear they’re still working together as a group, you don’t hear that very often.
No you don't.
Thank you for the video. It's been awhile since I used to listen to Special Generation growing up. Could you do a video on "Something from the People"? They did the song "My Love is Shss..." with Tamara & Trina Powell, who are the sisters of the Late Great Jesse Powell. ❤️💯
There's an interview with them on @ChecktheRhymesTV actually
@@shameikar2123 🆒️ Thank you very much. ♥
This is why I love this channel, I have never heard of this group which is a shock because I’m such a big music lover, but I’m so glad to learn of this group they seem pretty good .
Great overview! I just interviewed all 5 members on my channel--and they go in depth about their career and they have the best stories. :)
I can't believe I didn't remember Special Generation until you all made a video on them. I have remembered Oaktown 3 5 7 and B Angie B for decades. Thanks for the reminder. Spark of Love really showcased their vocal prowess. The acapella harmonies and the accompanying video featuring then newcomer Nia Long are STELLAR! Big ups to Hammer for giving them their big break! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Oaktown 357 was my favorite girl group and B Angie B can sing and the ladies were beautiful , naturally pretty..
@@corinthaperry174 Agreed! I thought B Angie B was as beautiful as her voice! I hope Juicy Pop will upload a video on her! 😁
I LOVE SPECIAL GENERATION!! They were from the Bay area S.F. Oakland I use to live there and they were huge!! Such a fine group of young men who should've attained higher success. I always wondered why they never did. Looking forward to this.
i thought they were from Florida and one from Philadelphia!!!!
@drewali7 well I remember them feom bay area because that's where they recorded and did their music. So I assumed they were from bay but in this video I learned they were from Florida. So cool
@@glitterfalls1 i remember fernado was doing an interview and they said he was from philly so that's how i found out. i had thought they were from mc hammers hood or hometown myself till i seen that.
I always wondered who that group was that was singing in the background of "Have you see her" video by MC Hammer. I was just recently searching a few months ago and still no name was mentioned in any google results about who they were. Then I decided to watch this random video because I wanted to know who this group was and I hear this. Now I finally know.
THIS IS CRAZY ❗ I never knew the name of this group, but admire their work, especially during their affiliation as back vocalists for MC Hammer. SPECIAL MEMORIES. 💐
I love their vocals on help the children.
Bust it Records had some great acts on there such as Special Generation, B Angie B and even Doug E. Fresh was on the label when he dropped his Do What I Gotta Do album in 1992
Can we get a video on Rhythm-N-Bass? They originally performed the song "Tell Me" before Groove Theory, about 3 years prior.
What a coincidence! I just heard them for the first time when "Love Me Just For Me" popped up on my shuffle the other day. (If you are taking suggestions,) I'd love to hear what happened to Riff and Men of Vizion!
"Love Me Just For Me" is my songggggggggg!!!!!!
I don’t remember them nor the song that was played but I hope they all come back for a big return!
Never heard of them thanks for sharing 👍🏾
I interview them twice on my podcast and the interview I did is on UA-cam
Awesomeness I will have to check that interview out! I love me some SPECIAL GENERATION ❤️
@@glitterfalls1 thank you 🙏🏽
I have their debut album, and Love me just for me and Another Place are my favorite songs. I also never knew they did background vocals for MC Hammer.
Another place was one of my favorite as well!!
You can see them in that Hammer video Have you seen her
@@GerardFreeman they also performed on help the children which is how I first heard them.
Hey, I noticed that the name of this channel changed. When did this happen? Love the content my sister
few days ago.
Never heard of em
How long does it take you to research these artists? Is your primary job?
I miss this group Special Generation.
I do.
Why did you change your channel name?
🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫
Algorithm 101. They tried to sneak that by us.
@@DJAUDIO1 Right
She posted about the name change shortly after it was done.
Shout out to Marquette Robinson! That's family! Love you big bro❤❤❤
Met these guys in person 1991. We had them come to my friends party for her bday. They gave her a signed poster. I slow danced with one of them to the song let's chill. I was 13 years old. Fremont ca
Never heard of them before
This channel brings back so many memories. Do you guys know what happened to Doc Box and B Fresh (Slow Love)????
Wow, I definitely remember them....
And yes, I had a crush on Charles 🥰
Very Special 1 & We Can Dance r still bops
Can't wait to watch this this is gonna be good
i found Spark of Love one day randomly on youtube thanks to the algorithm about 3 months ago and instantly became addicted to it. i've played it so much over the last few months that my suggestions suggested this video to me lol
"She's Mine" is My Jam!
I don't remember them, but I do remember them being with MC Hammer. Don't remember none of their songs...
I don't think I remember this group
The lead singer was the bomb!
Kendrick or Fernando????
@@drewali7 they all sing well. Any member could be lead..
Butterflies is absolutely one of my favorite 1990s tracks !! Lyrics so on point... "You don't know me but I'm in so deep,..."
Thank you 💓
Can you do Voices and The Honeys?
... Please forgive my ignorance... But who the hell is this?!!
The channel or the group
Only one of the Best Singing vocally gifted talented group to come out of the Bay area produced by MC Hammer!! Their style vocals blends melodic harmonies and individual talentswere up there with Boys to Men Jodeci Commissioned. They just never fully attained the access to the mainstream as some other artist were. They are Bay Area Legends!!
@@thecloud9effect765 ... The group... Being that I'm from NYC I don't think I've ever heard one if their songs played out here.
@@glitterfalls1 ... Ok..I'll take your word for it.
@dramakingnyc937 Thank You King!! You can find their music on you tube. Blessings ✨️
Great episode
I remember being parked in front of the TV watching BET's Video Soul and recording my jams. "Lift your head and smile" has always been one of my favorites!
💯💯💯 group
I saw them around 1990.....opened up for hammer.
When I tell you NO ONE around me remembered these guys and I have been wondering what happened to them!! Thank you so much!! 🥰
Awesome talent. Special Generation ❤
Very underrated musical quintet! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The single "Butterflies" 🔥 is how i was introduced to them.
I forgot about them. Love me just for me was the jam.

@@drewali7 that's awesome
