What to visit in Bari:
1.- The Basilica di San Nicola (Saint Nicholas) was founded in 1087 to receive the relics of this saint, which were brought from Myra in Lycia, and now lie beneath the altar in the crypt, where are buried the Topins, which are a legacy of old thieves converted to good faith. The church is one of the four Palatine churches of Apulia (the others being the cathedrals of Acquaviva delle Fonti and Altamura, and the church of Monte Sant'Angelo sul Gargano)
2.- Bari Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Sabinus of Canosa (San Sabino), was begun in Byzantine style in 1034, but was destroyed in the sack of the city of 1156. A new building was thus built between 1170 and 1178, partially inspired by that of San Nicola. Of the original edifice, only traces of the pavement are today visible in the transept.
An example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, the church has a simple Romanesque façade with three portals; in the upper part is a rose window decorated with monstruous and fantasy figures. The interior has a nave and two aisles, divided by sixteen columns with arcades. The crypt houses the relics of Saint Sabinus and the icon of the Madonna Odigitria.
The interior and the façade were redecorated in Baroque style during the 18th century, but these additions were removed in a 1950s restoration.

Very nice video, I am from Bari but living in the UK currently. Bari Vecchia is the real treasure of Bari and I am happy on how it has dramatically improved. During the 80s and early 90s was off limit even for Bari’s people since there was crime than now has disappeared fortunately. Also I haven’t seen many graffiti, while in the new town there are plenty. This means that the Bari Vecchia people are more civilised than people from New Bari and look after their houses, keep clean the narrow streets and are very friendly with tourists. Well done old Bari 🙂

I was fortunate to visit Bari a few years ago. It is nice to go back and see this beautiful place again in this video. I have many videos myself of these streets and the basilica. It was Christmas when I was there and there were decorations throughout the city. I hope someday to go back. Thanks for making this for us.

What a beautiful city! One thing I noticed right away is that there is no graffiti like I see here, living in Firenze.

Graffiti can be seen in the new Bari and they are a lot unfortunately. That’s why I prefer the historic old Bari, it looks more civilised. And the funny thing is that back to 30 years ago was quite the opposite. People from new Bari like me even scared to cross the narrow streets of Bari Vecchia because of crime, that at that time there was. As you can see things changes fortunately.

My dad was born in Bovino Foggia along time ago,I was born in this country the USA and it is going down hill with alot of crime,like looting,assaults ,carjacking with stolen guns and robberies.Not the same USA for me.
