I was 16 then just learning what beatmatching was all about. Ten years later I am making my own tracks in a my home studio and yet this song still rings true in my heart. I woke up in the morning and this was the song playing, I can't even desribe how it made me feel, the first time I ever heard it and even now I can't desribe how it makes me feel, just takes me somewhere far away. There are not many comments that could do justice to this track except to say that I was there following the great man himself at the time, and for every gig I went to before and after he made every hair on my body stand on end, shivers like you've never known up the back of your neck, and mostly feeling like I was dancing on thin air. Oakenfold is a modern day Mozart.
This is like a movie... like poetry, musical poetry... even the title "Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Tiësto Remix) is pure poetry, i used to listen music like this in the noon, in a radio show mix of a local radio station... but now, i really appreciate this music, i dont want to call it, track, it's a song, it's music... the name track, makes the context very superficial, i'm so inspired, this song is ilussion, its, fantasy made true.
Agreed, my mates spent half the night the other night looking for a dealer when they could have been enjoying the music. I was stone cold sober and the music itself was my high.
This track still gets the hairs on the back of my head to spike up.. and goose bumps all over. One of my favorites.. thank you Oakey and Tiesto for making this fantastic music gem!

I put the day glow gear away a long time ago... filed the 72 hour party sessions behind me in a memory folder called "Puerto Rico - Miami -DC." -Grew up- went to Afghanistan- I even stopped listening to trance. Then I listen to this song, and it reminds me of seeing smiling tanned faces, under flashing lights, dancing bodies, the glittering features of the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, the thought of having my best friends next to me- all while this song played in the background.
Now one of my best friends is gone. The other and I don't speak... And I can't for the life of me remember the name of that girl. But I do remember that this was the most perfect moment of my life. This song brings that back. Thank you Tiesto!

this was the year of amazing music, I loved this song so much, and still do, the new age music hadn't got a touch on all these tunes, wish I could go back in time when it first came out again, the good old days
I think today's youth are entitled to like their own stuff just as we are however the simplicity or supposedly ADHD should appreciate what they want. Personally I think this is one of Tiesto's finest remixes - trance and dreamy whilst the seductive vocals capture the essence of the song. Getting older means you find it harder to accept change although I do endeavour to keep listening and enjoying as much new stuff as possible.

You need to be very careful making a statement like that. Hundreds might agree, but thousands will not. Given that trance music has been around in its current form (more or less) since about 1992, that's a big database and back-catalog of tracks to choose from. Nominating "Southern Sun" as the "best ever" is a big call. What other trance tracks do you rate highly?
