- With A level results day just around the corner (eek, best of luck to any of you getting results) lots of people will be thinking about gap years. When planning your gap year it's often really tricky to know what to do or where to start so I'm here with 10 tips to help you to get your gap year plans in order. Obviously taking a gap year this year is a little bit different to usual (hello Covid) so I have added some little specific notes for 2020!

While I'm not planning a gap year myself, I love the concept of mini-retirements to enjoy life, and hone in on new skills. Some nice pointers, great video!
Yes that sounds like a really interesting concept!! When you think about it all of these tips could be applied to retirement as well!!

Thank you so much for this, this seriously deserves more views! Hmmmm, as for my gap year after my A-levels, I know that I'll spend most of it in Japan since I have family living there and I used to live there until I was 8. I'm thinking of working a few part-time jobs there in order to save up for travelling (not sure whether to travel around the country or abroad but so far travelling abroad would be a more exciting option) and maybe buy myself some things that I always wanted e.g. a laptop for university. I just hope that Miss Corona won't be there to ruin everything next year or the year after! x

I'd LOVE to go to Japan one day - depending on how things play out with Corona I think that might sort out your dilemma as to whether to travel round Japan or abroad. Hopefully travel goes back to normal very soon but if not it sounds like your plan should be okay regardless!! Thanks for this video, very helpful and lots of good ideas. I’m planning to go and get a ski instructor qualification in Japan and work out there for awhile then do a classical art course in Italy. Thank you for the good advice!

Great video Imogen! I’m just coming to the end of my gap year. I have worked all year as a GP receptionist which has given me so much valuable experience. Looking forward to starting uni soon though- I feel ready for a new chapter. Are you excited?

Really wanted to do ICS but they are apparently re-designing it with no dates available atm :( - would love to hear more about it though!
Oh dear that's a shame, I think you can still sign up in the meantime and as soon as it's back on you can do it?? I don't know much more than that unfortunately but before I do the ICS video I might do some research and see what the state of play is with it!

Sorry Becky I seem to have missed your comment. In my opinion ICS is one of the best programmes for avoiding volunteerism and the white saviour complex - I will talk about this more in my ICS video but the longer length of it compared to other programmes and the way that you work with fellow young people from the country you work in helps to improve the overall sustainability of the project. :))

How much money do you think is a good amount to save for a gap year
This really depends on what you want to do, I think all in all my gap year probably cost just under £2000 for everything. However if you want to go backpacking for 3/4 months for example I think you'd probably need to save up a little bit more than that. If you're planning on doing Workaway though for a large part of the year then you won't not need as much as that. It really depends on what you do in the time - sorry I can't be of more use answering your question, but I hope that still helps a little bit Tia!! ❤️
girl thankyou sm for this vid, right now I've finished sixthform after a Long Journey with covid19. I am thinking of doing a gap year but Im really indecieve, as I think doing a gap year is a big step. my future goals is to start an clothing line business in the future. i decided to do marketing in Uni but Idk if it a good decisions for me to go uni to pursuade my dream! I am really worried, to do my student finance this year as my indecisive self has delayed it till july :( im really confused in this moment and time any word of advice would be amazing can i still delay my entry after applying my student finace for this year?
I would definitely take a gap year if you're not sure if uni is the right path for you as most likely, you'll figure it out over the course of the year. You can still apply for student finance and cancel it if you decide to have a gap year. The most important thing is just to remember to cancel it before the first payment comes in. Then if you do decide to go next year, just remember to reapply next Spring. Hope this helps!
Suspending studies to do a different course next year so I basically got 9 months to do something 🤷♂️

Yeah sorry Sanna it is cancelled. I was holding off doing my ICS video until after this was all over but as time went on it became clear that wasn't going to happen for a while!
