- Magma on French television in 1977 performing the epic 'De Futura.' Truly great version of this song. Quality is kinda crappy due to the 10th generation VHS it undoubtedly came from. It seems like it cut off at the end, but that's the edit point where it goes directly into MDK (see other video post).
OMG can't believe I see my fav song of Magma performing live.
Thank you so much for posting this.
Thanks, what a fantastic present to all of us fans of Magma. "A vie, à mort et après"
what makes this vid the best is the editing. couldn't be better. Perfecto.
Unbelievable that there is even a video of this - the fact that they got
signed to a major label deal seems inconcievable to me now but top
flight musicians playing some of the strangest, darkest heaviest stuff ever - fantastic!
One of my favorite mAgma songs. thanks for the video
Yep! Klaus Blasquiz is the man....but personally i'm partial to the second drummer who looks like he should have been playing with the village people!
unfortunately, it's not the entire song, but this is the complete song from the video. glad everyone's enjoying it!
Wonderful! Can't thank you enough for posting this.
master class ! greatest musicians!!!! si tu aime pas cette musique, c est parce que tu en a jamais vraiment ecouté ! lol i love you so much cri-cri !!!!! salut a tous amis cobalien !!
The faces Vander makes while drumming are absolutely incredible. I saw Magma live omly onc, at the Leverkusener Jazztage, and they were fantastic, My wife saw them twice, once with me and once in Cologne, and she says Vander did a 45 minute drum solo there. She claims it was not boring for a second, and I believe her, since she is an excellent drummer herself.
I was in the front row for that one at the Younger Hall and for the Gong gig earlier that year in June. In fact I think the Magma Glasgow City Halls gig was the same week.
Charlie Mingus !
Was there with my then current girlfriend in the front row. Brilliant gig. Hard to imagine now but Magma were widely expected to be the next big thing back in those days. They were always gigging round UK back in 1973 /74
The other stuff from this full video is up. It's the MDK parts 1-3 and the Vander solo.
I love you for posting this video
Could not Agree more... God Bless the other sides of Music..all those dynamic sounds and choirs...that makes Kobah the Place to be when lost in space...meet you all There... Hundin otsilennhet^e sowilei zunh!!zeuhl!!
the second drummer is Clement Bailly and i believe the female is stella vander, but i'm not sure.
Vander simply CANNOT be human...this is alien in both scale and execution. There will never, unfortunately, be another band like them.
absolutely wild. i love it.
i think it's awesome that Magma got Robert DeNiro circa Taxi Driver to play drums w/ Vander....such a great drumming duo...
Holy shit, I need this album.
I am a metal head, but love this band!
my favorite Magma track (yes, more so than MDK).
This is amazing! :O
That guy's name is Clement Bailly. he was later a member of the village people ;-)
Fantastic! :)
absolutely wild and amazing!
what album is this piece from?
bass sounds like Wetton's in the 70's Crimson
There are some bands like them, but not as gutsy and neither have the cohesion Magma had; still a must hear if you like the works of Christian Vander. This bands form the Zeuhl genre and Vander himself plays in some of them. I can recommend some of the ones I like:
Weidorje
Bernard Paganotti's band
Skaton
Offering(acoustic Magma)
One Shot
Fusion
And there are many more, mostly by musicians who worked along with Vander in Magma and went to form their own Zeuhl spin-off bands.
Absolutely genial, really creatif
the other guy may be Univers Zero's Daniel Denis
Atleast he played with magma at some early point
Royal !
wow
amazing
Is this Magma, with which Didier Lockwood worked ?
Excellent, they play as if possessed.
just kidding about the village people thing ;-)
but throw a leather captains hat on him, and he could be straight out of a gay biker bar. i think he's awesome. maybe my favorite part of the video.
if you're interested in Bailly's other stuff, check out the band Heldon, which he played in for a bit. pretty cool stuff. it's more along the lines of jammy electronic/kraut stuff.
excelente cancion kobaiano
I think the drummer with the short hair, mustache and sunglasses looks cool.
in my opinion, best zeuhl band of all times
fucking cosmic groove, vibes from outer space !!!
good choice
I know, haha...
Good discovery that band, Heldon. I wonder why he (Bailly) didn't mention it at his MySpace curriculum.
🤣🥁 lovely
Yes, perhaps the most technically skilled progressive ensemble (and I've heard a LOT of them). By the way, can somebody tell me the name of the guy with the mohawk haircut, ray-ban glasses and moustache?
people've said that the symbols or the artificial language were the funniest parts of magma...
when the fact is, it's those beards.
I love butch on the drums...
who's the second drummer, who looks like travis bickle ? and is the female soprano who gets spotlighted over the repetative bass riff at 6:30 mrs. vander ?
The other guy is Clement Bailly
très mauvaise prise de son. Dommage, c'est l'un des meilleurs morceaux de Magma!
Gojira before Gojira
Sorry, I misunderstood you. Happy new year.
the 2nd drummer feels like hero.IN E-ngland
im gonna have to disagree w you on that! i think what's horrible is the actual recording and mastering, but the performance is there...
Ce gars s'appelle Clément Bailly et il faut être un sacrément bon batteur pour trouver grâce aux yeux de Christian Vander...
Fucking scarying...which, concerning magma is great!
:)
Was that other drummer mean or something?
most magnificient band i've ever seen. They all are like in a trans, specially Vander... He isnt playng drumms he is worshipping to musical gods...
I personally don't like those guys you mentioned. And putting aside the fact that I am a musician, I don't wear any badge at all. I only express opinions.
Didn't know that Nietzsche could play drums.
What!? Mmmm yes... they whish
i agree he does look cool, but vander probably beat the crap out of him multiple times for botching fills, or buying the wrong kind of shades, or having the wrong mohawk-to-scalp ration.
@darthmamdouh I lol'd.
Udu Wudu or some such
Can someone post the lyrics?? =]
Thanks, but... Village People? damn!
This is Pneumershonic
hahaha fucking funny
try to find flying luttenbachers great cover of this song! it's the first track on their record ...the truth is a fuck lie!
christian vander is the shit!
