Not as an older man, but back in the late 80's, I was in my early teens and I liked his music but you wouldn't listen to it hanging out with your friends.
I caught on to Prince, as far back in thr late '70's when he first bagan his music career. With his Dirty Mind album, alot of black people distanced themselves from him because for them, he want too rock n roll, punk & pop. Not me. I couldnt have cared less how others perceived him. To be certain, the way he dressed live on stage sometimes I couldnt vibe with, but his MUSIC and incredible music talents I stuck with from his For You album all the way to the unreleased Deliverance album right before his untimely death in 2016.
In the UK we never really questioned Prince’s vibe, or dress sense or whatever. Having been through Bowie, Queen, glam, New Romantics…he just came across as super awesome and exciting. End of!
#1 song of 1984. Spent six weeks at #1 on the billboard USA music charts. This song was all over the radio during the summer of 1984. What a jam and my favorite Prince song.
I was a teenager when this came out, and a straight man, I’ve never been ashamed to say that Prince is my favorite musician of all time. No one has ever come close.
Miles Davis said that Prince was the most gifted musician of his generation. Loved Purple Rain, which I saw multiple times in theater, and Prince. He defined a generation of us Gen Xers. Dancing to Prince in the Tunnel Club, Dancetria, The Limelight? Amazing. Gone too soon, so very very talented
I commented to her on her "Kiss" reaction that Prince would have approached her at the club. She has the look that he likes and if she could half way dance, Mia, would be in one of his videos.
The "Sign 'O The Times" film is peak Prince with one of the greatest bands that ever played with him, and every single song is genius, the sets, lights and sound are immaculate, and the style and performance are off of the scale. It is a sensual feast and an artist at the top of his game, totally in charge of everything he wanted to do yet free to cut loose and soar at the same time.
Queen got big a few years before Prince in the 1970s, but there were several years in the late 1970s through the 1980s where they were both popular. The Revolution was Prince's first promoted band that he recorded and toured with in the early to mid 1980s. They were also featured in a movie with him titled "Purple Rain", which "When Doves Cry" was also from the soundtrack of and had clips from the movie in this music video. As far as fashion, what Prince was wearing wasn't all that unusual for several celebrities of the time (there was a period of androgynous fashion sense from the 70s into the 80s). Prince was just able to pull it off (like his music) on a level better than most.
You could not go very long back in the 1980s without hearing a song on the radio from either Prince or Michael Jackson. 'The Purple Rain' movie and soundtrack were particularly culturally iconic. His music stands up to be remembered always. The part of the Prince bio that does not always get reported is how he mentored and supported female artists. Both within and apart from the Revolution band. Sheila E., Sheena Easton, Vanity, Apollonia, and Alicia Keys were all among the Prince protégées. Also noteworthy and admirable is how Prince did not absorb himself within the Hollywood glamor lifestyle. He was born in Minnesota and spent most of his life there.
I don't know. Maybe people simply mention the song without saying the long version, so content creators always revert to watching the short version. Seems to happen all of the time. Making them miss out on the full true experience.
Yeah I always check to see if it’s the full version or read some comments before I watch , hence I didn’t watch this clip 🤷🏻♂️ it’s the full version or nothing for me 💜
Prince🟣✨ released 39 albums in 39 years. I discovered Prince as a 14 yro, 1981. My friend had bought the single (vinyl) Uptown. You'll love most of his stuff. So many styles and songs. Rabbit hole #1👍🏼
Anyone who loves Prince is a friend of mine. About his "outrageous" visuals: The 80s was shamefully different from now in one important way: It was practically impossible for black artists to get on MTV. (There's even an MTV interview with David Bowie from the era, where he interrogates/chastises the interviewer about this. Look it up, it's brilliant). Michael Jackson broke through this glass ceiling with Thriller, but only after his label threatened MTV to withhold their other artists. Now, Prince not only had similarly big dreams to that of MJ, he was adamant not to be marketed/viewed as a "black artist". All of this contributed to his fashion and image decisions - and to him hiring such a diverse bunch of musicians for his backing band The Revolution. Black, white, male, female. (Still an unusual thing in the 80s). I frankly don't know why anyone would be bothered by his style, unless they harbour some latent anxiety over their own sexuality. I certainly wouldn't wear everything he wore, but hey, it's show business is it not? Just wait til you see him at his early, most outrageous: Just a thong, high heels and an open trench coat. Opening for the Rolling Stones in that outfit, the audience threw things at him until he left the stage. In reality though the man was 100% straight. (To the nth degree, as I'm sure you can imagine...) In any case, the androgynous thing was big in the 80s - lots of artists were into it. (And quite a few openly gay artists emerged as well). Even the tough hair metal guys wore makeup and borrowed clothes from their girlfriends. What's important though is that Prince is the GOAT. The rest of it is just noise.
1984 was the best year for music ever and Prince's "Purple Rain" soundtrack was right at the top of the list. "When Doves Cry" was the lead single, followed by one hit after the next. As a kid in his teens, I was obsessed with his music-I own every one of his albums, many on vinyl. Queen, meanwhile, also had a big album in 1984-"The Works" which included the hits "Radio Ga Ga" and "I Want to Break Free." So you could easily turn on the radio and hear Prince followed by Queen. Both tremendous artists, both one-of-a-kind. Great reaction!
"The Revolution" was the name of Prince's Band .. for his 6th - 9th studio albums: Lisa on Keyboards, Wendy on Guitar, Doctor Fink on Keyboards/Synthesizer, Bobby Z on Drums, and Brownmark on Bass .. Prince made his Best & Most Creative music when he worked with The Revolution
I disagree. He was a creative genius, he didn't need anybody else. His album Sign O The Times was one of his most creative albums to me. Then there's Lovesexy, Diamonds and Pearls , Love Symbol , Batman, Emancipation.
Queen was already popular back in the 70's, whereas the first I heard of Prince was in the early 80's. I saw him live at a concert in Rhode Island 1983.
Hi Mia, this song came out in 1984 from the movie Purple Rain . I was 19 years old at the time. Yes you are right, the music of the 1980's was great and we always danced and had fun!!
Prince and the Revolution were around for a long time. I think that Queen was formed 10 years prior to Prince releasing his first album (1978), but this man was multi-talented and would rather play most of the instruments in his songs. This was on the Purple Rain album in 1984 and I was just learning how to ride my bike when I was 6 years old. It's a really good song.
Queen came in the 1970s. Prince came to national prominence in the early 80s. Revolution was his band. Sheila E was a drummer for the band at this time.
This era and Queen was basically the '80s. So many different and unique musical styles. The Revolution was Prince's band back then, he handpicked and assembled each individual musician in his band. By the '90s he had formed a new band called The New Power Generation.
Prince was such an underrated guitarist. He was amazing and he could play almost every instrument but he was known for his incredible guitar playing. If you haven't seen it you need to watch the tribute to George Harrison with an all star team playing his song "When my guitar gently weeps "!!!
Love the purple ambience you have going on there! This song came out in 1984. I was 13 and obsessed! Now, I’m 53 and still obsessed 😂 The Revolution was Prince’s band at this time, but they didn’t play on the studio version of this song. It’s all Prince. He wrote it, sang every note, played every instrument, and produced it. Genius!!! I left some suggestions for you in previous comments. I love that you are going down the Prince rabbit hole and look forward to your next Prince reaction 💜💜💜
I requested Prince twice a day every day for about two months before she eventually reacted to "Kiss". I requested Prince twice a day every day for a few weeks before she reacted to this. Sometimes I wish Prince didn't have so many great songs. I'll see the Vikings win a Superbowl before she gets half way through them all.
Prince mastered playing 27 musical instruments before he turned 20 and produced his debut record in 1978 (which was released 5 years after the debut album by Queen in 1973) ... He was discovered in Minnesota by reps of Warner Bros. Records who heard his demo tapes in 1977 which Prince sang and played all the instruments. In 1978, Prince's song 'Soft and wet' became a top 100 chart hit in the US. Prince released his self-titled 2nd album in 1979 as his confidence as a songwriter grew in the disco era, playing all the instruments again... He scored a huge hit single "I wanna be your lover"... which made the top 20 singles in the US and the album sold 3 million copies. It was at this point that Prince decided to put a live band together in 1979 and called them The Revolution... a band that would feature various members - Lisa Coleman (keyboards), Bobby Z (drums), Dez Dickerson (guitar), Matt Fink (keyboards), Wendy Melvoin (guitar), etc. They were featured in Prince's movie 'Purple Rain' in 1984, which became a megahit. Prince began touring w/ The Revolution in 1979 and they shared vocal duties w/ him... Prince recorded more sexually open records like 'Controversy' and 'Dirty mind'... before his 1982 album '1999' (which The Revolution members played and sang on) made him a superstar on MTV and inspired him to make his first movie 'Purple Rain' released in 1984 and filmed in Minnesota... It became a blockbuster hit and the 'Purple Rain' soundtrack sold 25 million copies worldwide, credited to Prince and The Revolution. Prince released 2 more albums w/ The Revolution - 'Around the world in a day' (1985) and 'Parade' (1986, soundtrack to his movie 'Under the cherry moon')... In 1986, he disbanded The Revolution and recorded his next album "Sign O' the times" in 1987. After Prince's death in 2016, The Revolution reunited as a live band to perform Prince songs in concert. In 1990, Prince assembled a new touring band he named The New Power Generation (N.P.G.) and they would be his live band for the rest of his career going through various musicians over the years.
Sorry, but where are you getting your information from?! At least half of what you have written is inaccurate....for example, he wasn't discovered in MN by WB Reps at all, he went to NY with his manager and demo in hand and shopped around all 5 major labels, each showing varying degrees of interest, but only WB were willing to give him a 3-album deal AND allow him to produce himself. Prince didn't put The Revolution together until 1983, not 1979, Dez Dickerson left before they formed and only "some" members of the still-to-come Revolution were on 1999. However, they only provided backing vocals on a handful of tracks - no-one else played anything on the album other than Prince, except for just ONE guitar solo (on Little Red Corvette). I could go on, but please check facts before publishing - it doesn't help the legacy or the people new to his music.
@@Mindflux_Zubzub Where r YOU getting info from? Prince was in Minnesota when he was discovered; his managers went to NY to shop his demos and he was signed by Warner Bros. The Revolution were formed as Prince's live band IN 1979 to promote his 2nd album on tour. FACT. Prince founded The Time as a side project in 1981 w/ Morris Day. The Revolution DID sing on '1999'... and as u admitted, played (1 solo) on the album. Not everything I say has to be 100% accurate, dingus... I'm giving Cliff's notes versions of the musical history and that allows some leeway... Loosen up!
@@sumonjamal1653 Amazing that you try and enlighten people in a polite and non-aggressive manner and get personal insults back - you seem really nice! Let's see, a fan for over 43 years, attended 55 live Prince gigs, own every bio written (some even signed - Per Nielsen's is THE authority on Prince btw, I recommend you read it) and being a music producer and multi-instrumentalist myself, I have followed Prince's career intensely. You said "He was discovered in Minnesota by reps of Warner Bros. Records" which isn't even remotely close to what happened. You make it sound like A&R were scouting MN, found Prince and signed him. Prince was actively seeking a major-label deal and was in NY himself touting a demo. His manager Owen Husney got Prince to record a better-quality demo and started a bidding war between major labels with Warner offering the best deal. Your way of putting it wouldn't even make Cliff's notes, because it's just WRONG, not abbreviated! You said, "The Revolution were formed as Prince's live band IN 1979 to promote his 2nd album on tour. FACT." Except it is NOT a fact, the only fact is that Prince put a band together in 1979, called THE REBELS, which feature 2 musicians who ended up in The Revolution when it was formed in 1983. They were initially formed as a way of him getting out more recorded output, but that was abandoned and he used them as a touring band, but NOT by the name of The Revolution. He was toying with the name once 1999 was recorded and even printed it on the 1999 album, but in reverse. The musicians were curious if they were going to be properly named, but Prince held back doing so until Dez Dickerson left, which he knew was happening. Once he found his replacement (Wendy), he then formed The Revolution properly and officially. You said, " his 1982 album '1999' (which The Revolution members played and sang on)", again not true. We already know The Revolution didn't exist during these recordings but, even more importantly, the only other musician to PLAY on the album was Dez Dickerson, who never even was a member of The Revolution! Furthermore, he played for 20 seconds on an entire double album, yet you count that as a band playing on an album? You might not think you need to be accurate, but if you're recounting someone else's history, you really should be, especially when talking about figures who are so important! What is the point in lazily dashing out things that aren't true and then announcing FACT after them when they are not. So, tighten up on your lax proclamations, dingus LOL
@@Mindflux_Zubzub I based what I wrote on Wiki and watching Prince documentaries. Everything I wrote was based on what people said and recounted. Maybe u know the finer details, but accounts do vary from person to person and maybe some say what others deny... U may be a Prince superfan... but hardcore fans of artists are the WORST because they get upset and triggered by minor details... This was not YOUR story - this was Prince's story and recollections vary. WE can only base our interpretations of what people recollect (Correctly or incorrectly) For example: Mick Jones of Foreigner is credited w/ writing "I want to know what love is"... Foreigner vocalist Lou Gramm said recently that he co-wrote the song and got no credit. Like I said, loosen up, dingus and quit trying to jump down my throat... If I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit it... But I'm not gonna stay quiet if u belittle me by flashing your 'credentials' and pumping up ur ego by trampling on mine.
@@sumonjamal1653 Wow - you really seem to have difficulty comprehending not only what I wrote, but what you wrote! It was abundantly clear that you were just ripping from Wiki and haven't been a student of his career (you do realise Wiki is open source and hardly the be all and end all of factual information?). And now, you're trying to shift the blame on to sources being unreliable, rather than yourself. Of course, different perspectives can exist, but there are many things that are a matter of fact and extremely well documented and evidenced - cases in point being how Prince signed to WB in the first place and the creation of The Revolution. Frankly, you gave fundamental details, but even those basics were clearly wrong and misleading - I corrected those and then supported those assertions with what you refer to as "finer details" for clarity and context. As with most other musicians (especially professionals), we tend not to engage in superfandom. In fact, you mistake me for this as opposed to Prince having been an inspiration for me throughout my 30+ years in the music industry and he has been a big influence. If you're going to make a career of something, it is no bad thing to study the greats. Prince did the same with James Brown. And having been performing all over the world at thousands of festivals, I have been lucky enough to see more artists than you could possibly name and on multiple occasions. Given music is my life and career, I am pretty knowledgeable about many artists, but particularly ones I admire. People being wrongly credited is rife in the music industry and has nothing to do with people having differing perspectives or not recollecting correctly, but you wouldn't know that, because you are clearly not in the industry yourself. You only feel like I'm jumping down your throat because you are clearly hurt by being corrected and not mature enough to deal with that (which is why you resorted to name-calling). Superfans might have ripped you to shreds for what you wrote, I simply corrected your mistakes without belittling. You bringing ego in to it says more about you than it does me. It's also laughable to suggest that you admit when you're wrong as, again, when you were shown to be wrong, you just repeated your incorrect facts and couched them in insults for your ego to feel superior. Furthermore, I didn't "flash credentials", you asked where I get my info from....I told you. You should chill, accept when people offer you correct information with no malice and quell YOUR ego somewhat - it will do you good. Unless you're a total dick....and if that's the case, you won't help but reveal that shortly.
Love how thematically purple everything in your room is. The Revolution is one of several backing bands Prince worked with. Another was The New Power Generation. I was four when this one came out.
I was a complete metal head in the 80’s but I loved Prince, and this song was right at the top of the list. I think there was so much good music around, any true music lover couldn’t just stick to one main genre
I too loved and still love metal, prog rock, rap, etc... but I always appreciated.prince, Michael Jackson, queen, and many other big acts of that time..when i was in my teens.
Snuck in to the movies at age 13 to see this. Amazing album. And btw- you could definitely be an 80's chick! You MUST watch Prince's performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony for George Harrison. They play While My Guitar Gently Weeps and it's one of the greatest guitar performances of all-time.
She loves Prince & he would have definitely loved her. Prince may have dressed feminine but he was manly enough to be with a lot of beautiful women. She’s his type for sure but any red blooded straight man loves her.. Mia is gorgeous ;)
Yes, Mia would be in a Prince video if they ever met. He is a hell of a dancer, and this 'short' version of this video does not show where he jumps and do a 360 in the air and make the landing to the beat of the song. It is one of his coolest dance moves.
Great reaction! This is '84. And "The Revolution" was Prince's band for many years. You'll love "If I Was Your Girlfriend." Clothes, stage show, and music.
The Revolution was his band in the 80s. The movie Purple Rain was "quasi-biographical". I think it would be worth watching for you because he plays a character very loosely based on himself, and you will have a better understanding of his vibe and what the era was like. The 80s are known for using synthesizers (electronic, programmed keyboards) to produce music. Prince made a lot of great music, and was known for being an amazing live performer. After the success of Purple Rain (album/movie/tour), people just pretty much respected and accepted Prince, acknowledging his talent, creativity, and boundary pushing. He was a bit mysterious; he spoke little, but created a lot. (He is said to have produced a song a day. When he died, he had two rooms ["The Vault"] full of work - music, video footage, projects, etc...) He was allowed his own genre and was as androgynous as he wanted to be, while others were likely to be judged if they tried to do the same thing. Some thought he was strange, but Prince did what he wanted and kept bringing the beats, so that was respected. He was an icon, even when he was alive.
A little insight on the era from someone who was there. This was 1984 and "When Doves Cry" was the 1st single Prince released from the "Purple Rain" soundtrack album. It topped the charts. A month or so later, the movie "Purple Rain" hit the theatres and that was it. Prince took over the world. As for the club scene, his music and image ruled. Guys tried to dress and dance like him and the girls LOVED it. Prince's music PACKED the dance floor and it was LIT...in purple. It was truly something you had to be there for.
You gotta see Prince perform his song "PURPLE RAIN". The official video or live!! You'll see how he was a master at playing the guitar 🎸. Keep up the great reactions Sister 🤙
This song is from the album "Purple Rain"- There's also a movie with the same title that's all about him and his upbringing. The "Revolution" was the name of his band. His catalog is amazing! There will never be another like him! - Some of my personal tracks by him are as follows: "Pop Life" "Raspberry Beret" "Scandalous" "If I were your girlfriend" "You need another hole in yo head" just to name a few.
What a tune, listen to that hook on the keyboard, a masterpiece! This song was from 1984, in 1984, Prince was No1 in the box office with the film Purple rain, No1 in the singles chart with, "when doves cry" and No1 in the album chart with Purple rain.
Little Red Covette- Prince. Another amazing Prince song from the early 80s. Top 3 USA billboard music chart banger and love to see you react to it. Thank you Mia for this great reaction and Happy Holidays!
With Purple Rain he was at the top of the music AND movie charts, he won Grammys etc AND an Oscar. I went to at least 10 of his concerts (and some after shows) - such a great artist, miss him a lot ...
Ugggh !!! Mia played the short-version of the song !!! SMH .. My Favorite Part of the long-version is the dancing that Prince did once he walked down the stairs .. and eventually did the "James Brown" scream !!! 😍😍😍
Prince was one hell of a guitar player. I saw him at a hall of fame induction. He and quite a few well known musical artists played, When My Guitar Gentley Weeps by George Harrison of The Beatles. George Harrison's son was there playing guitar as well, and he looks exactly like his dad.
This song is everything. The epitome of Prince's musical genius and style. This song has no bassline which was unheard of and somehow doesn't miss it. Others maybe to check out, some deeper cuts: Erotic City, Gett Off, Endorphin Machine, P Control, 319. The other poster is right, you need to listen to the full version of this song with the guitar solo and signature Prince screams.
Prince transcends genre and taste. Anytime anyone says they don’t get him, I figure they don’t have the capacity for him anyway. He loved his FAM (not fans) cause he knew we had discernible taste. I only ever discovered Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis or Mother’s Finest cause of him. He was my music teacher. Plus Stevie Wonder loved him and sang his praises. And I trust Stevie over any non playing gatekeepers of the rock era. MJ the King of Pop Prince was King of Music ♊️♊️♊️💜💜💜
Cool reaction! You should def. react to the extended version of When Doves Cry. You are missing out on Prince going nuts on the vocals, and sick guitar and keyboard solos. That's the exclamation point. Also, this is Prince doing everything--writing, producing, playing, vocals. Man was obscene...lol
You must check out "When Doves Cry (Extended Version) (Official Music Video)", which includes the best part of the song, a jam after the edited end of the single
Holy moly was that album HUGE when it came out.... I saw the Purple Rain tour in Houston back in the 80's... He played for about 3 hours without an opening act..... Listen to his 1999 album... "D.M.S.R." or even his earlier music 👍🏻👍🏻
There would be two live performances I think you should check out. One is the American Music Awards when he performed Purple Rain. The other would be the Superbowl halftime show. I think you would be very pleased watching them.
1984... I was a freshman in high School then... as for Queen, they were out before but still making albums at this time... Prince and the Revelution were Prince and his band, not a separate band... and i am a bonfire metal head but first a .musician, Prince was one of the greatest artist in history, and musicians... one of the greatest guitarists as well... I was, and still am into Metallica, Megadeath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, Ozzy, etc then but still listened to Prince for his geniuses...and I'm not nor ever will never ashamed to admit that!
80’s and early 90s was my teenage years… it’s still the only music that plays in my car. Prince is definitely in my collection. Earlier this year I drove a band around on a US tour and they played at the First Avenue Nightclub where prince and a lot of other bands played. Outside the building across the street on a giant building is a mural of Prince you’d flip out over. You need to watch Prince’s movie Purple Rain. There were so many hit songs from Prince, it was the number one sound track. Some of the scenes you saw in the video you just watched, are from that movie.
Prince & The Revolution were a band formed by Prince in Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1979 with hits like Raspberry Beret, Lets Go Crazy, I would die for you
Yes! The 80s music was great music all around. Soooo original. The way Prince dressed was normal for the entertainment industry at that time. They dressed androgynous, a style popular for some big celebs. Men wore eyeliner as well. Prince, Michael Jackson and Rick James were big rivals. Prince movie Purple Rain and the movie album made him an Icon.
Yeah the 80's was definitely an era I'll never forget, I was in the Army when this movie "Purple Rain" came out. I and about a couple dozen people sat in a Air Force theater, we sang every song together, I know I watched the film at least twenty times that night until morning.
I love this song. Prince was arguably one of the greatest performers of all time along with the revolution who are his band. This song was the ultimate club song. Also a prolific songwriter. I'm glad you liked this one. Please I hope you'll check out Metallica Creeping Death Live from Moscow 1991 🙏🙏🙏
Eddie Murphy's brother, Charlie Murphy had a funny ass skit on Dave Chappelle show about meeting Prince at a club, then playing basketball with them after the club then Prince fixing them pancakes 😂🤣Prince was a musical prodigy.
PRINCE is the best there ever was. He played every instrument under the sun, wrote all his own songs, recorded every genre, and had a voice that could hit every note from the highest to the lowest. Like his music or not there was never a better Live performer then Prince. React to some of his live clips and u will see
The Revolution was Prince band the video is from the Purple Rain movie!! Prince wrote his first album in 1979 album was called Prince!! I went to Prince Paisley Park his home in 2017!!
I couldn't help but smile when you said that you wished you were in your 20's when Prince was popping off because your look and your vibe are totally reminiscent of that era. You look very much like Apollonia and the types of women Prince was into back then for sure. I tell my now Teenage kids they would have LOVED the 80's and might choose to stay there if I took them back in a time machine. I get the feeling you might have chosen to stay as well. I was 6-7 years old when Prince started popping off (and 8 when this song and the movie "Purple Rain" dropped) and very much into pop music even as a little kid and I used to feel like I was getting into trouble whenever I'd see him on TV lol. Like I knew I shouldn't be watching it as a little kid but I couldn't help it it was so good and STILL is. It's even better now I think, personally. RIP to the absolute game changer of a legend, Prince.
Prince's first nationwide hit was "I wanna be your lover" which made it to #11 on the pop music charts in 1979. But, he was relatively silent on the pop charts until 1999 and Little red corvette in 1982. 1984 and Purple Rain made him a household name. I hope you check out the video of the album version of this song. It's super dope! 💯
Prince was amazing. Hopefully we get a reaction to the legendary: "2021 Remaster "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" live performance Prince did with other legends at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
He does get credit for being a guitar player but from a guitar player to another guitar player ,I always thought that he was one of the more underrated guitar players. Love his music love his guitar playing. Check out his live performance on while my guitar gently weeps. It was a memorial concert for George Harrison of the Beatles. And George Harrison‘s son plays guitar during the performance; spitting image of his father
Mia .. Watch the movie "Purple Rain" before watching any documentaries. Plus, the movie was semi-biographical & THIS MOVIE is what catapulted Prince into Superstardom !!! (cuz at one point, "Purple Rain" the movie was #1 at the Box Office & "Purple Rain" the album was #1 on the Billboard Charts AT THE SAME TIME !! Prince's accomplishment at that moment was Historic
Prince has the best halftime show at the SUPERBOWL EVER!!!
not better than Michael Jackson
Not better than Madonna
Top 3
That is correct. Prince's Superbowl halftime show is the greatest of all time. Without question.

Many insecure men did though.
I'm from Minnesota. No one is too manly to listen to his royal purple badness. More Prince.
#1 song of 1984. Spent six weeks at #1 on the billboard USA music charts. This song was all over the radio during the summer of 1984. What a jam and my favorite Prince song.
The Revolution is his band, Wendy, Lisa, Bobby Z , Dr Fink and a few others

Gone too soon, so very very talented
If she didn't know that The Revolution was Prince's band, she probably doesn't know who Miles Davis is unless you tell her.
Yup you would have been with prince. You got that vanity apalonia look 😂😂
I commented to her on her "Kiss" reaction that Prince would have approached her at the club. She has the look that he likes and if she could half way dance, Mia, would be in one of his videos.
Exactly 💜💜💜
The one n only Prince ... 💜💜💜
I was just thinking that. lol. Yep, he would put some "special stuff" on her voice if she can't sing and made her a protege lol.
Omg she really does
The "Sign 'O The Times" film is peak Prince with one of the greatest bands that ever played with him, and every single song is genius, the sets, lights and sound are immaculate, and the style and performance are off of the scale. It is a sensual feast and an artist at the top of his game, totally in charge of everything he wanted to do yet free to cut loose and soar at the same time.
Definitely Prince at his best. The album is incredible and the live performance was so good! Wish I could have seen him on that tour.
So right, The big three in music at the time was: Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna....they dominated at the same time pretty much.
Why is nobody telling her to react to the full version because the song has more time and Prince does killer guitar solo
I was thinking the same thing
I don't know. Maybe people simply mention the song without saying the long version, so content creators always revert to watching the short version. Seems to happen all of the time. Making them miss out on the full true experience.
Yeah I always check to see if it’s the full version or read some comments before I watch , hence I didn’t watch this clip 🤷🏻♂️ it’s the full version or nothing for me 💜
Best Pop song ever… pure genius !
(To the nth degree, as I'm sure you can imagine...)
In any case, the androgynous thing was big in the 80s - lots of artists were into it. (And quite a few openly gay artists emerged as well). Even the tough hair metal guys wore makeup and borrowed clothes from their girlfriends.
What's important though is that Prince is the GOAT. The rest of it is just noise.
Purple Rain was not just a song or an album but also a movie

Great reaction episode 😎💯💯💝💖
Prince a musical genius, a phenomenon! The world over knows When Doves Cry🎉🎉
Love to Prince, a Gemini like Me😊
And yes, Prince is also a gifted guitar 🎸 player
Queen (Rock) came before Prince (R&B) but we're coexisting since the 80's and the Revolution is Prince's band.
Queen came in the 1970s. Prince came to national prominence in the early 80s. Revolution was his band. Sheila E was a drummer for the band at this time.
Actually Prince came out between 1978 or 1979
No, she was not part of The Revolution. Bobby Z was the drummer during this era. Sheila joined after The Revolution broke up.
My favourite Prince song 🎵 🕊
@ 😂 it would take years to get through his music even if someone only reacted to Prince. We will have to be patient and keep requesting 💜💜💜
WE can only base our interpretations of what people recollect (Correctly or incorrectly)
For example: Mick Jones of Foreigner is credited w/ writing "I want to know what love is"...
Hey there Ms. PURPLE no wonder you like PRINCE he was Mr. PURPLE 💟💜🟪🟣☔
favorite prince song
Snuck in to the movies at age 13 to see this. Amazing album. And btw- you could definitely be an 80's chick! You MUST watch Prince's performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony for George Harrison. They play While My Guitar Gently Weeps and it's one of the greatest guitar performances of all-time.
I grew up with this....the man!!
NOW THIS WAS A MASTER ARTST ALL TIME❤ PHENOMENAL❤
One of the most underrated guitarists.
Watch his Superbowl halftime show. Pure fire!!
He is considered one of the greatest guitarists ever and that is still somehow underrating him. He was so insanely good.
My favorite prince song for sure
I knew you would love this. Prince was tha man fr he also played almost every instrument, pure genius 🙌🏾💯
He played multiple instruments. Musical genius to most. Had the women too
@@yennydude3768 bro was hardly 5 foot tall to hear Eddie Murphys brother tell it.
He was so talented. This is a good song.
Yes. The master. The genius. Early 80´s and the best time! Prince would definitely love you 😅. All his taste. ❤
Check out Prince 's Superbowl halftime show in the rain. It was the best ever.
Will always be an anthem & a banger!!!! This was the 80's and clubs were off the hook back then. The Revolution was Prince's band.🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤
Yeah! Thanks Mia! The 80s... I was watching this on TV while the grown folks were partying.
This is my all time favourite Prince song. I was hoping you'd do this one.
He was a musical genius ❤
Prince transcends genre and taste. Anytime anyone says they don’t get him, I figure they don’t have the capacity for him anyway. He loved his FAM (not fans) cause he knew we had discernible taste.
I only ever discovered Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis or Mother’s Finest cause of him.
He was my music teacher.
Plus Stevie Wonder loved him and sang his praises.
And I trust Stevie over any non playing gatekeepers of the rock era.
MJ the King of Pop
Prince was King of Music
♊️♊️♊️💜💜💜
The Revolution is the band that Prince was recording with at the time.
Mia the Prince halftime shows so must to watch & she’s always in my hair
I consider this song as his masterpiece
You are without a doubt the cutest thing i have ever seen when you are dancing and moving your head. I love prince to... the movie was dope!!!!
My favorite song from Prince.
I was about 2 when this song came out but I know it was played in my house a lot because of my mom he was way ahead of his time musically
Game. Blouses.
I currently have a Prince and the Revolution poster in my room. I bought the “Purple Rain” album and it came with a poster.
Wait til you hear his guitar solos 💯🔥 Purple Rain LIVE.
Another great song from prince is purple rain and also “ I will die for you”
PRINCE is the best there ever was.
He mastered like 30 musical instruments, u should see his purple rain superbowl performance
Love the hair. Great look for you, Mia. Legendary song.
This is Mia's journey, do your thing!
Hell yeahz - that beat! More Prince - Let's Go Crazy and I would Die for You!
Prince is awesome, first heard this song on MTV when we got a break to go out in USAF basic training. 1984 : )
