Shure PGA58 Dynamic Microphone Review / Test

  • Today, I have the Shure PGA58 Dynamic Cardioid microphone in the studio. I test this mic out, but I also compare it to the Shure SM48 later in the review. This is a relatively inexpensive mic that some people may be looking at for live vocals, podcasting, gaming, etc. I go over the basics, the specs, and I put this mic through the usual tests.
    Check out the testing and audio samples and see if this is right for you! Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!
    Shure SM48 Full Review:

    You should compare every handheld dynamic you do to the XM8500 to get a baseline

    I bought one of the pga58 microphones and i think it’s a good starter mic that costs $30 but comes with a $20 sticker. Point being is that we have the swim view point on the sticker because when I first saw it I said out loud “where the H311 am I supposed to put this” and back in the box the sticker went. Anyways I hope your channel gets a plosives

    This video is four years old so I can’t remember all the details of the video very well. You made it seem like I started talking about my family problems or something… a little confused. When did I talk about myself and truly go off topic? Seems like everything was related to the review of this product or Shure as a company. Don’t get me wrong, this is MY channel and I do actually have a personality unlike some monotone reviewers. Sure, I’ll crack some dumb jokes RELATED to the product and not take myself too serious. So, If it’s my delivery you don’t like, I get it, we all like different things but don’t act like I actually went off topic. Maybe I talk about things YOU weren’t interested in, but in relation to this product and my channel, it was all relevant.

    Make a video where you compare Shure behringer xm8500, shure sm58, and sm7b, for example. But make the audience guess which one is which. That would be an amazing video. I know there are videos like that out there but I bet you'll do it better.

    PGA58 and SM48 sounded incredibly similar, but I feel like the PGA had more low response and SM had more high. Therefore, I prefer the PGA58. Neither is as velvety lovely as the SM58. EDIT: Just got to your conclusions, and it's worth noting that the PGA58 is $34 and the SM48 is $39 now.

    Hey, sorry for the comment without being in relation to the video, but I figured I have the biggest chance at a reply from you here as it's the most recent one you have uploaded.
    I have a MXL 990 and am very happy, but I'm looking for something cheap and portable to get. Do you think the Blue Snowflake is decent for $20, or do you have any better suggestions? It'd mostly be for use during tabletop gaming (D&D), as well as laptop usage throughout the house.
    Thank you so much.
    P.s. I love your videos! They're very high production value for the amount of subs have. Definitely got my sub!

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  4 роки тому

      I really don't think the snowflake will perform very well in that situation. The USB mic that I would recommend would be the Samson Q2U, it is a little more expensive than the Snowflake (Q2U new on amazon is $45), but you can get it used for pretty cheap. I think the Q2U sounds SOOO MUCH better, has better features (XLR + USB Compatibility) and it's going to perform WAY better in non-treated rooms compared to the snowflake.

  • @WolfsHaven
    @WolfsHaven 3 роки тому +2

    I think the 48 sounds has a bit more treble to it with your voice. For singing it's probably a bit better for most.
    I think the build quality of the 48 is better as well as the off axis rejection and handling.
    The more bassy sound of the pga 58 could be better for speaking, for a lot of people. For gamer's it picks up a bit more keyboard clicks though.
    In the end it's really close depending on one's needs.
    For those that hate the SM58, maybe it's the way it reacts to their voice. There's a reason it's been a staple in the industry for over 50 years though. It's cheap for a professional mic, it's durable, and it works well with most people's voices.
