Hey, that's me! Thanks for having me on the show, Caleb. So far from the comments, it is really encouraging to see all the positive support. Being on here was really tough but I wanted to be on here to specifically platform how not treating your mental health issues can lead to massive financial strain that I'm in.
Guys, if you have anything with mental health that you need to deal with, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, PTSD, etc. Please get help. It's the most important thing in your life to treat in order to keep moving forward because like me, once you get treatment, you can realize how terribly it affected you not just, mentally, but physically, financially, in all aspects of your life.
But on a lighter note, we did move into the house after a very long weekend, and I'm currently moving the rest of my crap out of the apartment while cleaning it and turning in the keys today. I'm gonna work my ass off this week to get started on the goals that Caleb helped me find for myself. Thank you all for your support, it's going to really keep me going.
Edit: I finally finished cleaning and getting the rest of my stuff out of the apartment, and I finally turned in my keys and am officially in a house! Reading these comments on my little breaks really made me cry. Thank you guys for the outpouring of support it means so much, and it's made me feel more motivated to do better than I have in years. Thank you all, truly.

@@CalebHammer You're doing a fabulous job! I had panic attacks in the past ironically when I was going to grad school to become a psychotherapist, lol. I'd drive drinking Pepto Bismol, but mine were instigated by a medication I was put on for migraines that gave me paradoxical reactions. Eventually, I figured it all out & I was actually glad I experienced them because it gave me the ability to really understand anxiety & panic in a way no textbook would have. Then when I became a psychotherapist anxiety, and panic, PTSD became some of the specialties that I was known for treating. I closed my practice in 2010 due to chronic health issues from post-viral & post Lyme issues but then became certified as a coach even though I've not been able to fully realize my coaching practice. Your channel inspires me & keeps me motivated to stay hopeful of helping others again :) Again, you're providing a super helpful service here & your empathy is something we need to see more of on social media & beyond!!!

Absolutely, same here!! Last year I was so incredibly depressed, I didn’t even recognize the depression until one day a lightbulb went off and I realized I have all of these things I’ve ordered but not even enjoying(for example I bought all the things to redo my kids rooms and my living room and the stuff sat in a pile for 6 months.. i had no drive or motivation.
I was overly buying my kids expensive clothes literally ordering stuff every single day that they wouldn’t even wear because we barley left the house due to my depression) I didn’t realize until I was surrounded by all these things with no desire to even use or enjoy the things once they were in my possession. Heck I bought my kids 5 swimsuits each and we only went swimming once last summer because I didn’t ever want to leave the house.
I was using all of our extra money after bills on BS, every cent and then when our money would get low I would use the pay in 4 apps and rack those up so we were constantly making payments on those. It was so bad.. I finally got the push to get to the doctor(after rescheduling it 3 times because I didn’t even have the energy to go to the doctor) and I’m doing much better. I still need work but I’m in a way better spot now that I’m on medication. I stopped the shopping altogether besides only getting what the kids NEED for the season. Now I just need to learn how to budget properly now that I got my shopping problem under control. Mental health is so incredibly important.

A common trait of people with bipolar disorder is bad spending habits like impulse buying and shopping sprees, so you're not alone, nor is your situation unjustified. I have Borderline/Emotionally Unstable personality disorder with autistic traits and complex PTSD. Sometimes I spend on impulse. Sometimes I spend to feel better. Sometimes I spend because I'm triggered. Sometimes I spend because I'm burnt out and need a break. Sometimes I spend because I'm sensory seeking. These are my blind spots. So I have to put blocks in front of the blind spots to see them better. I try to stick to a healthy routine which leaves me little time to spend money. Sometimes I go for a walk and leave my cards and money at home. Or I'd take only a small about of money. I still get in trouble but it's less than when I was 15000 in debt and had to default on all my payments and smash my credit to smithereens. That was 10 years ago and I now have a 900 credit rating. I stay at home a lot, walk around my neighbourhood park and go to the hospital and the gym and work. I go out one night a week which is usually pre-paid so I've already budgeted for it.

The fact that Caleb approaches these situations with empathy while still maintaining a grounded perspective is really nice. Plus doing his best to validate emotions while people experience them? It's refreshing, a lot of financial channels just don't do that, so thank you for acknowledging the human behind the money, Caleb. It's commendable and affords you a ton of respect. Both you and The Financial Diet are wildly impactful because of this approach, so, thank you.

I think this situation/person is one I connected to most. The sympathy and empathy you showed meant so much! He seems like such an amazing person. Struggling with mental health as a whole is so hard but Covid hitting the food industry ( im a driver/caterer myself. So I feel the struggle ) , even here in Virginia where I’m at, is STILL being hit and the slow climb back feels forever far away. This is especially worse when you actually LOVE your job and your mental health loves it too. I give nothing but love to this person and I hope and send lots of good juju his way, that he can finally find a place of good balance again. I love this channel and respect the way you know how to balance the art of “ say it like it is” but also remembering every person who sits in front of you different. Some need the “suck it up. Stop doing dumb crap and being recklessly stupid” and others need those words but with more compassion and understanding.
    Keep it up!
And to this seemingly awesome and compassionate person… YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS AND NEVER STOP BELIEVING IN YOURSELF! Our mental health doesn’t define us as a whole and sometimes what others might see as ailments, most times actually make us have more understanding, compassionate and just better humans!

They say that poverty is traumatic and that's sadly on display here. Your worth as a person is constantly tied to how much money you have in society. That plus the constant stress of falling behind on payments, not being able to save, and it being SUCH a big deal whenever you want to treat yourself makes poverty such a horrible place to be.

Not sure if you realize this but you are also doing such a huge thing to help people who have similar issues. You are not only helping yourself, you’re motivating people like me to be more open and feel less shame asking for help. Not to make this about me but I was also diagnosed with bipolar 2, and I can’t begin to explain how parallel our financial situation and spending trends/habits so this was probably one of the most personally helpful videos I could ever see. Impulse shopping is a hallmark of BPD, and I was the poster child at one point. I went from an Amazon package a day to not feeling any impulse to shop whatsoever.
