Your sister is so well spoken, she is a natural on camera. I always tell everyone that an epidural doesn’t hurt at all. It is amazing when your in that much pain how it doesn’t hurt at all.

amazing for those that it works for....and when the needle isnt put in your back 17 times to the point of having back pain 4 years after you've had your daughter, i will never have another epidural ever again, and i had my son naturally 2 years ago, everything was so much better

I'm a healthcare professional in Canada, and I'm so glad you and your sister had the courage to post something like this on your channel. This information is so important, since most people think being pregnant and having a baby is completely risk free, when it's not. I'm so happy for you and your family that Lauren is doing well and that there was a good ending to all of this; it must have been so terrifying. I wish Lauren all the best with her new baby!!!!

I think it's amazing that you shared this story. My mom and brother almost didn't survive HELP syndrome. My mom was deemed the "crazy person" and was sent home a couple times with "false labor". The night he was born, they only kept her there because one of the nurses was a family friend. They discovered HELP syndrome at that point and did an emergency cesarean. This video brought tears to my eyes because it was terrifying not knowing if my mom was OK. No one was allowed to see her. Not even my dad. Thankfully they saved them both. Thank you so much for sharing this so people know what to watch for to keep themselves safe. ♥️

Thank you so much for sharing this story. I feel like you don't hear about preeclampsia often, so this really hit home for me. I too had preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Unfortunately, I was 31 weeks pregnant and went from mild to severe within a week. We lost our son, Connor, and since then I have turned to UA-cam to not only share my story, but to find others who have gone through it as well because I felt alone. Sharing these stories will help so many people, so thank you again!

I’m not even pregnant but I enjoy hearing your stories about the process of labor and what you need to know in case of emergency. You’re so informative and that’s very important for women expecting or just scared to death about the outcome. The advice you give is always appreciated and I’m so glad you two made it through. 👍🏻🙂

In November, I gave birth to my daughter at 30 weeks due to HELLP syndrome. I was induced immediately, but ultimately rushed into an emergency c-section. I was unable to see or hold my baby when she was born, and did not get to until she was 5 days old because of other complications. I was borderline for needing platelet and blood transfusions, and close to my liver shutting down. She was just released after 9 weeks in the NICU.
Thank you to your sister for sharing her story! Not every childbirth/postpartum is a magical perfect experience. It is so important to pay attention to symptoms and warning signs! 💜

He's actually the biggest in his preschool class lol Just wanted to say hello to a fellow NICU mama & let you know that the toughest days are behind you. Congratulations on being home now! Awww that's so nice of Lauren to share her story!!! I'm sure it will help some people know what to look out for! I may or may not have teared up when Rachel did because you could see how much she loves her sister 😍❤️. It could have been my allergies though... to the snow. You know those snow allergies get your eyes all watery like you're crying but your not 😜🇨🇦

As you hear from the ER story they sometimes don't even slow down for just lowering the pain a little. Yes, the doctor saved her life but that pain he caused was a big trauma, too.
Doctors need to be trained more in empathy at times.

I am a public health nurse in Alberta and I just want to say thank you!! Thank-you Lauren for opening up about your private pregnancy/birth/postpartum experience. I especially want to say thank-you to the both of you for encouraging women to advocate for themselves and to trust their gut feeling. So many new moms feel that they are weak or that they have somehow failed if they go to the hospital or their doctor if something feels off. I really hope that by sharing your stories it will help encourage other women to stand up for themselves. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I had preeclampsia and you are so right it can go bad really fast. I was on bed rest in the hospital but was doing better and going to be discharged. The night before my blood pressure spiked so bad I ended up having an emergency csection. I was 27 weeks and my daughter was born weighing 1lb 13.6oz. She is a healthy 5 years old now but when I heard stories like yours all the scary memories come back.

I had a postpartum haemorrage 6 hours after I gave birth and I had to be rushed in to emergency surgery. It was the most terrifying thing I've ever experienced, way worse than giving birth, which I had done naturally and gotten through fine. I think the scary thing was that my partner wanted to go home that night, but I made us stay in the hospital and I was just about to go asleep (as it was midnight by this point) when I stood up and instantly knew something was not right and called the nurse. In the five minutes it took the nurse to call up to the OR and get a bed, I lost nearly 3 litres of blood. If I had have gone home, or gone to sleep, what could have happened is too scary to think about. So I understand what that fear feels like, and the horrible feeling when you've lost that much blood. But I guess the thing that got me through it was that my daughter was safe and healthy :)
Love your videos, and I think you and your sister are doing a great thing sharing your stories

I went full eclamptic with my twins at 38 weeks. Babies are fine, I was in intensive care for days after birth. My kidneys shut down and I had seizures for 12 hours before they gave me Magnesium and emergency c-section. I then developed pneumonia for all the fluid in my lungs. I survived and perfect babies so it worked out. Just the beginning of all the sacrifice we make for our babies. Thanks for sharing your story.

Ugh, I'm so sorry, that must be incredibly frustrating. I'm sure you've already tried this, but have to checked out NFP at all? I use Kindara and their Wink thermometer and it's so nice to see with such accuracy when I'm most likely to be pregnant vs. not! It's certainly none of my business but I just wanted to share that in case it wasn't something you'd seen before :)

searching around for pregnancy/labour videos because we just found out we are pregnant after 25 cycles! I remember commenting on this video so I came down to see if I had anything new to say and just now caught your comment. I'm not sure what NFP stands for (natural family planning i think, right?), but I did basal body temperatures for most cycles, except those that were monitored for IUI/IVF. I loved that for knowing that my period was coming soon because of the temp drop. It took us an IVF cycle (Thank you Ontario for paying for that!) to get pregnant, but I'm so so looking forward to every single minute (and now this 6 weeks preg mamma is sobbing).

Thank you for sharing your story, Lauren. I also suffer from hyperemesis gravidarum. I’m almost 39 weeks and still am on the medications because of it. I love that you mention that everyone has a different birth story. As much as you can prepare, it is really such a unique experience. With my second child, I skipped all the research on home birth. It wasn't my plan and I had an idea what to expect. I ended up delivering my son at home, on my own. My husband was at work. Thankfully, there were no complications.

It can be very intimidating as I begin this journey with my fiancé right now going from engaged to married to babies and hearing things like this helps me stay informed. I know not everyone’s experience is the same but it’s good to know coming from a mama of three now and to see how the babies differed and what each birth was like and things that happened where the mama came out healthy in the end. Sending you and your families lots of love and prayer right now that everyone staying healthy and thank you so so so much for sharing it means a lot!!

My story is similar to your sister’s. I went into preeclampsia at 35 weeks but they wanted to keep my son inside me as long as possible. I was induced at 36 weeks. I actually ended up with an emergency c section because my blood pressure kept getting higher and they couldn’t control it. My son ended up in the NICU for a week because he couldn’t breath on his own. Like you said it’s crazy how people’s birth differ.

Thank you BOTH for sharing this! Postpartum complications are serious and far more prevalent than they should be. A lot of times they're also brushed under the rug by healthcare practitioners until it's emergency status. My water broke at 24 weeks, I was hospitalized for 4 weeks until delivery at 28 weeks. I can very much relate to everything Lauren experienced in the NICU as we were there for 2 months. I had a D&C in the labor & delivery room because my placenta would not deliver intact being only 28 weeks along, 7 weeks later I had another D&C for placenta that my practitioner left behind the first time. These sorts of things just should not happen! They are way more common than they should be. Don't ever be afraid to speak up if you think something is wrong. I also am with you about the emotional aspects of having a traumatic delivery and NICU experience sticking with you. I don't know that you can forget those moments.

Really wonderful that you’re willing to share this very personal story/experience. I had my first child a week ago which was hard enough on its own, I can’t imagine going through all that you did. You’re incredibly strong. Thank you for sharing.

As a European, I'm always so intrigued to hear people from the USA/Canada talk about epidurals and these elaborate hospital births. Where I'm from epidurals are uncommon, you only get one in very very special cases (you can't just request it). Also, home births are way more common around here, people only deliver in the hospital when they have a specific reason to. Amazing what cultural differences there are around the world, even between two highly developed Western countries (statistics show the babies and mothers safety and health are not effected by this, btw)! I obviously know Laurens story was different and it was a medical necessity, but this is something that always comes to mind when I hear Americans talk about birth and delivery, so just wanted to share! :)
Besides that: thanks for coming on camera and charing your story! As someone in the medical field, I'm always very curious and interested in everyone's stories haha! You were a pleasure to watch Lauren!

Asia I am a Student Midwife in Canada and this is a typical high risk delivery, not a normal delivery. She was induced early which changes the process. We do have a higher epidural rate and C/S rate than some countries, but among midwifery patients the rates are very comparable to the UK. Many women have uncomplicated births with no interventions other than oxytocin postpartum for bleeding and maybe an IV. It all depends on the circumstances.

Ella Anvari - Of course it is, that's why I said I know her story was different, it's just something I wanted to share because the differences are fascinating to me! :) In her case it would have probably gone the same way in any (first world) country! Except for the epidural probably though.

Awww 😥 I’m so sorry that you had to go through this! It’s traumatic for everyone involved to watch a person you love go through that. My pregnancy labor and delivery was awful too- on top of it my son was transferred from the hospital I was at to a different hospital that had a level 1 special care nursery. It takes a while to get over the trauma of that. So thankful that everything worked out well and you are both healthy and happy now.

Thank you Lauren so much. You explained my third pregnancy and delivery to a T without the official diagnosis. I lost 56 lbs during my pregnancy and my doctor didn't seem too concerned with it. My husband deployed when I was 4 month pregnant leaving me to care for our 2 children by myself with a genetic condition. My husband was able to come home for the delivery due to high risk pregnancy (high risk because of my genetic condition not because of my symptoms) and scheduled induction. During my induction my doctor left to go on vacation and failed to mention that he was leaving early. I ended up having my son with a nurse (God bless her, you could tell she was freaking out but she kept her head and her cool). A team (like 15-17 people) rushed in to take care of baby. I passed the placenta. Before discharge I was passing fist sized clots. Against my wishes they discharged me without doing any bloodwork. After a few days of delivery my husband had to go back overseas. I couldn't stay awake for the life of me and was still passing Giant clots. I went to the ER a few times after failed attempts to schedule an appointment with my obgyn explaining my symptoms and size of clots. They basically just wrote me off as hypochondriac. I finally passed a clot that was like giving birth all over again at home. That when I scheduled an appointment with my genetic specialist out of state. My grandma then drove me to my appointment. After getting my medical records, my personal take of what happened and blood work she was appalled. She said that I should have been taken seriously because I could of died and needed a blood transfusion amongst other things. It was pretty clear from my blood work. She helped me and to this day I love that doctor for finally believing me. She ended up filing a complaint on my obgyn and then retired within the next 6 months. She said between beginning restricted to help treat patients from ins and the crack down on prescription drugs and the negligence she had seen with other health care providers that she was done. My son is now 3 and a adorable, smart and sassy little boy. He had some major growth issues that were not caught early enough because of the lack of diagnoses during labor. I am glad Lauren got the help she needed. The one thing I admittedly preach is "YOU ARE YOUR OWN BEST ADVOCATE!" If you know something is wrong then you are probably right. A womans intuition is an amazing thing.

Thank you ladies. This was so good to hear and knowledge is the best tool. The least 'normal' part for me is that my contractions never got close together even after oxytocin and while I was pushing, they were min 5 minutes apart. The hospital doesn't want you in early but we had over an hours drive so we made the call to go in while they were a ways apart.

Thank you so much for sharing! I had a similar experience with the large clot about 3 weeks postpartum, but thankfully I was able to pass the clot without intervention. I still had to go to the hospital and it was so scary. I hadn't heard anything about it before it happened to me, so hopefully this will help other new moms know what to look for.
