- Chef Brian Hill has experienced success in the culinary world as a cook on Top Chef and as the personal chef for Mary J. Blige, Eddie Murphy and Mariah Carey. But when people walk into his downtown D.C. restaurant, they still don’t believe that he, a black man, is actually the chef and owner.
Following HuffPost’s interview in December 2018, chef Brian Hill told us he closed his D.C. restaurant on Jan. 21.

I went to Coolidge and have been fighting to get in the kitchen after countless good jobs, a year in culinary school, serve safe managers licsence, and Alert train license. It is very discouraging being black in the city trying to get a good job let alone where the odds are 90 to ten you are rejected it sabotage. God brought me to see this just now. I am from hot DC and still live hwre. God brought me to see this
PBS brought me back to life as well! I loved PBS for the sciences, experiences, cooking, art, music , and 💃🏽 . I loved it all!
I am a black chef. 👨🏾🍳🦸🏾♂️ and I love to cook. I have worked in everything from fine dining to quick service . Today, I am a personal chef with a growing business. I have not had it nearly as hard as Chef Brian. And I have had my own struggles. Nothing gives me greater fulfillment than to nourish the ones I love. We strengthen relationships through food. And you can create anything you want. What do you want?
Bruh he said “inconvenient tan” I didn’t even comprehend 🤦🏽♀️
Your speaking my language, I also became a chef from being inspired by Julia Childs and my grandmother. God bless and I wish you all the luck in the world 😗💖💙🖤🖤
hearing your story changed my life and mindset.. you are so talented and humble God Bless You

Love Him, his story is talking about life some of mine too!
It means a lot, other people won’t understand it but it means a lot coming from what you’re saying chef
I'm still owed $535 and 91 cents in wages from his bankrupt BBQ restaurant in 2008.. This "celebrity chef" is just a deadbeat loser.
Your a wonderful soul Chef Brian. I'm inspired by your greatness!

Thank you Chef, I'm from the NE region of the US. I worked/lived in Florida and the good ole Palmetto state. I've seen ppl spit the food out once they realize the Exec Sous was black. Interviews begin with "why'd you move here" or "where are u from" lol even heard from the GM "you're different than the rest of them I've met!!!!!!' So anybody who acts as if it doesn't exist is clearly part of the problem.......being aloof or in denial is not an excuse for bigotry....

More proof that grievance studies is a disease. Literally no one cares if you're a black chef so long as you can make a good meal. You just have a chip on your shoulder a mile wide.
refuse to admit the truth you are sad
This isn’t about y’all. Like he said in the title. “ being a black chef “. ! If you’re not a black chef then you will not understand ANYTHING that he is speaking on. !!!
THIS ISNT FOR YOU TO RELATE TO !
