    Wow this is sooo weird . Sad the hybrid is replaced but this crossing definitely has something wrong with it. Great video as well.

    I would say the rectifier has gone short and put a higher voltage into the signal but I wouldn't put another Westinghouse hybrid bell on there I would probably put a WCH M-bell up there see if that gets messed up.

    There is a Railroad crossing near my house and the E-bell on the level crossing is dying too

    That's really wired. 4 bells in recent years?! Wow! Something's wrong here.

    That’s kind of what it sounded like when I toured Goulburn Street in Nagambie

    I say not enough voltage is going to the bell. I own a Invensys E-Bell and it makes this sound if I put it on low voltage.

    Also the anakie rd Crossing in bell post hill has the sane issue it sounds exactly the same as the new bell

    I can hear the bell cramping if I listen to it

    What were the 4 bells it’s been through
    Besides the Westinghouse hybrid bell and the safetran e bell but what were the other 2?

      It originally had a Westinghouse Hybrid Bell in the early 2000's, but was replaced with a WCH Mechanical Bell sometime around 2006/07. It lasted until 2011 when it was replaced with a Safetran Type 3. The Type 3 died in 2017 and was replaced with the Westinghouse Hybrid which died about a year later. The Hybrid was then standing but not operating for many months until it was eventually replaced with the current Type 3 with the shorter base. The current Type 3 has actually deteriorated even more since I shot this video and now has audio glitches where the bell occasionally skips and cuts out at random.

    If the previous bells and the current bell is doing that, it’s probably time to replace the whole crossing.

    They need to replace that entire signal if it's causing the bell to die or get sick

  • @sandiegotrafficlightstrain354

    So much for e bells requiring no maintenance.

    Interesting video! Perhaps they should try installing a new WCH m-bell or a recycled teardrop if available, it would be madness to keep using Safetran type 3's when they obviously aren't suitable for this crossing. Perhaps this signal just hates e-bells lol.

    There is certainly something very wrong with that signal! Would be interesting to know what is causing the issue though at least it’s only a Type 3 dying lol!

    • @Chris-xk3bp
      @Chris-xk3bp  5 років тому

      It's just a shame it had to kill a Hybrid beforehand. Though it really does demonstrate the robustness of the Hybrids considering the fact that it lasted for months on this signal while the Type 3 didn't even last a week!

    Great Video I’m glad I got to the hybrid before it was replaced but wow another bell that isn’t working correctly on the same signal seriously?

    • @Chris-xk3bp

      Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I first heard it! Something's obviously killing the bells.

    Nice video, I reckon the signals need to be replaced so the bells work better, same for Anakie Road, North Geelong.

      Also did you film the Union Street level crossing at Brunswick with the General Signals Type 3's?

  • @Redhen334sar

    I think I know the issue. I was playing around with my Safetran Type 3 and I noticed that on a lower voltage, it sounded scratchy. I think the voltage is too low.

    • @Chris-xk3bp

      That's very interesting. I think you might be onto something. It would explain why the other bells failed too.

    That’s sad the dead hybrid is gone but wow! Something is wrong with this crossing definitely.

    • @Chris-xk3bp
      @Chris-xk3bp  5 років тому

      It is a real shame. It's even sadder when you realize the poor Hybrid was basically murdered by the crossing. I think the control relays are sending too much current to the bells which is what's killing them. How many bells are they going to go through before V/Line and ARTC realize there's a major problem? At least the Hybrid lasted a long time with the faulty crossing.
