Finally been lookin for a first look on this car searching almost everyday. Good video
As a G37 owner, Infiniti needs to get back to its roots
What's that even mean? Q50s are gorgeous. Better looking than the G37.. just wasnt a fan of the model name change from G to Q.
@@m.m14433 q50 is sexy they just need to make the car more reliable with the turbo models
@@wailobeid2322 i wasnt aware the turbo ones had issues. I had the choice of 2015 3.7 or 2016 3.0t. I chose the 3.7 as i didnt want to deal with possible turbo issues in the future. Plus the 3.7 sounds way better with the exhaust system.
@@m.m14433 turbos are issues on every car. Turbos are a component that need to be replace after a certain amount of mile they aren’t built like engines. But I personally think the 3.0t with lower downpipes and exhuast sounds better than the 3.7. The turbo spooling is something else
I think this model is the one which best reflect the intention from the first Q45 - beautiful, Japanese inflected performance luxury. As the go to “Nissan plus” it may also be the last. Very beautiful, cool car but competition is stiff over 60.
People sleep on it and journalists have done it wrong. It's definitely competitive and it's still one of the best looking in the segment. I still get comments on my q50s hybrid.
You're bias. Objectively, its a 6 year old platform that isn't going anywhere but downhill. I suggest driving the car into the ground (keep it until it fails) If looking for a change, make that change now.
@@Tully3674 not biased at all. Experienced. You can go back as far as you want and find journalist harping on it. That's like saying the LX platform isn't relevant even with updates and yet they're still selling like hotcakes.
I love it
@@fgeiger41 😂😂😂. The q50 is selling like hotcakes huh?
@@pilotvanquish3886 nothing selling like hotcakes outside of tesla 🤷🏾♂️.
I like it ..Especially in that color too.
But oh that Q60 ...That's where it's at..
Aesthetically Infiniti Are Stellar
That depreciation tho
That’s why you buy it as a CPO.
This 2021 model is basically the same car as as the 2016 model. Depreciation is devastating with these Q50 cars. You can get a car virtually indistinguishable from this one for less than $25,000 now.
This car is just too outdated to be relevant anymore.
no, they have debugged the engine, so just upgrade the turbos, lower and fat tires, and 600hp and you corner like a boss
I dunno about not seeing these, they're everywhere and have been for years. Maybe not this redsport version but still. My question is though, can we take this engine and put it in the facelifted Lexus IS350? If I'm going to go for an ancient vehicle I'd rather have the Lexus IS......but with this engine lol.
That was my point; you don’t see Red Sport.
@@stevehammes Yeah I don't think that makes much difference with so many Q50s on the road. This version doesn't really stand out.
right, the IS350 is sooooooooooo slow. If it had a twin turbo V6 it would be killer. I think Lexus dropped the ball with the IS500. a twin turbo would have been better.
its old now.
i didn't even know infiniti was still making cars....
63k?!!! I can get a top of the line Volvo and get change back
This car needs a redesign just looks so damn DATED IM SAY IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN IT LOOKS LIKE A OLD PERSON CAR TRYING TO BE COOL.... they need something to keep up with Acura and Lexus hell even bmw there’s just nothing exciting out this car only the engine.
Love the review. Thanks!
Don’t like the car. No thanks. Not nearly special enough for anywhere near the money. Dollar for dollar, I could spend a lot less or a little more and get something that would really give me some feels. Too bad, because there’s a lot that’s right about it on paper.
If Infiniti wants to be more Nissan-like and no longer a Lexus or Acura competitor, why spend money on a 6 year old platform that's going further downhill? At least the Q60's looks have staying power. Nevertheless, my money would be better spent on a Cadillac, BMW, the new Acura TLX. Many more better choices then a Q50.
not sure, after I saw a Q60RS review
I am in my late 50’s. Infiniti is waking the same path that Converse did in the athletics shoe business. Some will get it. Most will not. Good review.

I love, love, love this car! I have a regular Q50 and I’m dreaming for a 400 red sport hopefully by end of next year! This car does not need any refreshing or updating, I love it just the way it is!!
I always had a thing on the old M45 and M56, and one of the best M56 reviews of the past came at the courtesy of Steve Hammes. Know that guy?? Lol
Ha!! That goes back a ways! Thanks, man.
Infiniti has some nice cars especially the Q50 and Q60 RS models. And don't let the MSRP fool you, there are big discounts that can be negotiated on the top trim levels which can make them a compelling alternative.
This one looks like a great buy used!
these cars are tuning platform paradise right now
@@xpengfangirl7942 hope they stay the same price used until summer. Heard that the 400z might share the same engine which might jack up the price for these.
My advice is to wait for them to depreciate down to about 25K in about 3 years or so, then they would be a great used car.
But for now, 60K for an aging car like that is insane.
It's not a Lexus, so it won't hold its value very good.
They already have. There are 2016 RSs that are in low 20k.
@Marino does dumb stuff Nice.
dude, not sure, this car is bomb tuning platform, right now, everyone is looking at it and the Q60
You can for the 16&17 but those have issues. For an 18 and up it’s still mid 35’s.
Bring back the manual please , like the G’s
I also like the Q70L with the 5.6, which seems to be a rarity.
You're right, the 5.6 is a strong engine. Too bad many overlook Infiniti as a brand.
Infiniti no longer makes that car
bro I'm a tech at infiniti . I've only seen one 5.6 q70. I Asked the owner if he thought about selling it. He said no.
Nissan should fix the transmission shifting logic bcs that's what holding it back the performance.
Same dated interior from 2014, Nissan is really dropping the ball with this.
the model you were driving had DAS. you can tell by the steering wheel. infiniti stop letting you option das as a solo option a couple years ago and its now apart of one of the two packages they offer in red sport trims. the extra button on the steering wheel show that this car has das because of the option package that adds those buttons.
Yup. He had the DAS. if it’s 63K there wasn’t any options missing.
I like Infiniti, but this is waaaaaaaay overpriced'
$63,000 is way too much compared to what you can get brand new in other cars much less used cars.
@Katrina Balanchuk Not this car. The value isn't there at $63k.
Infiniti always offers generous discounts that the Germans never would. You can't really compare MSRP to MSRP.
They depreciate in value very bas as well
It will be worth 20K in about 3 years..
@Katrina Balanchuk
Not really.
Considering how Nissan/Infiniti is struggling right now, you can easily talk them down to like around 20K for a 3 year old Red Sport. I've seen 2018's for like 23K.
@Katrina Balanchuk
Sure you did...just sure....lol
2021? Looks just like my 2014. Dated.
My 360hp hybrid would give this thing a good run too.
No
$63k!?! Whatever Infiniti is on I’ll take some. That’s whack.
Lemme know how much for a bmw or Benz. The m340i and c43amg are way more expensive wit less power
@@pennyrussell5655 Those are nicer cars more up to date etc. I don’t think Infiniti is trying to play at that level anymore.
exactly, that´s tesla model Y entry level pricing, what are they thinking?
Been waiting for this review for a min now. Great video!
really this car is fast becoming my favorite even over the R35 GTR, you just lower it and fat wheels and tires, upgrade those turbos, don´t even need to touch the gearbox and at 600hp, must be a dream
Outside has aged pretty good in my opinion. The interior could be way better. I loved Infiniti back in the early 2000’s. Seems as if they’ve gotten lazy.
I looked to I find this care very intriguing with all the goodies. My setback was the money and not getting the interior for the money the Germans offer
This is what the Nissan Maxima should have always been. It would have sold better as a Max as well...as a BMW competitor, not so much.
That's a fair point, Adam.
They didn't want to take away sales or cannibalize the Q-series
That is already a Nissan plus it's a skyline
you got it, just lower, fat wheels and tires, upgrade turbos and 600hp singing all day, wow
I got the 2015 3.7 ... I think it’s time for an upgrade 🤩
this is a great car, and tuning to 600hp is cheap
Still love my M37S. It has a great interior and with a custom exhaust, the 3.7 sounds way better than the turbo but turbos Are fuuuunnnn
Infiniti needs to catch back up
That’s not really the plan vs. other luxury brands. They’re just basically going to be loaded and restyled versions of Nissan models.
Catch up in what way? The only way I can see are digital dash cluster and a new transmission.
This car is still beautiful!! I hope Infiniti doesn’t damper it with a cvt
This cara been out since 2016, it has a seven speed.
Come on infiniti its time to redesign this car
This is just a guess, but I think they were waiting for the jatco contract to expire before redesigning it with a 9 speed. The jatco contract just expired and the redesigned pathfinder has a 9 speed. I think we'll see a redesign in 2022 or 23, hopefully.
not wow you..it literally self drives on the freeway and doesnt nag you...you can go to sleep and it will drive you to your exit
No, that’s called Super Cruise and GM offers that. This is just a cut rate ACC system with lane keep assist. Not spectacular in any way.
Get it 4-5yrs old used and itll be worth it.
Only if it's the red sport , however the folding mirrors and apple car play is a plus with the new years
Needs a new all digital dash.
I’ve had a Q50 since 2014 w the sport hybrid version To the 2019 q50 red sport. I like Infiniti ,but my Goodness it’s time for them to update this car ! The new 3 series is out, the new CTV blackwing is coming out to dealers very very shortly, the new Audi A4 coming soon along with the new c class , Acura sport sedan. The G70 looks good , and Infiniti is still sitting over there at the design center building model cars out of cardboard and lego blocks for recreational purposes... 🥺
Beautiful colors inside out
Steve this unit is not classified by the EPA as a compact sedan but rather than a mid size luxury sport seden. I for one rather all wheel drive because I am all about going fast and no time for drifting or burning tires. I think this is fantastic and Infiniti should live the Steer by wire technology. They should do away with the ron flat tires and use comparable tires as the competitors and you will see that this unit is a better drivers car than the BMW 540i variant.
They say its better to just get a Q50 3.ot sport and instead of just getting a red sport. They have all the same components except a few small things. Plus its wayyy cheaper. You can always modify a few things but for the most part its smarter
That exhaust sound is terrible. It could be a good car but it sounds terrible. If it’s the same price as a BMW I would just get the BMW
I like the Q"s. An odd niche. Like being a teenager trying to buy some Reebok pumps back in 89.
Lol 2021 and still the same old look with old ass interior... they are asking to go bankrupt.

timeless beauty
Was thinking this or the Type R
This looks better. Otherwise Type R.
Just got a job at an Infiniti dealership, so I'm watching these videos to get some background info
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Looking outdated for a 2021- sorry😕
Steve hope all is well with you and yours. How comes you haven't done a review with the Infiniti QX50 Autograph?
Been tracking it down for a year and it keeps getting cancelled. I have a QX55 coming up next week.
I'll stick with my G35 with 6 speed manual and rear-wheel steering.
Ok? You like to go slow obv 10 months later you still slow or what?
Good review! I've always thought the Q50 needed two major improvements: updated dashboard and newer transmission. If you just take care of those 2 things, the car would be more desirable. I want to love the Q50, being a G35 owner, but I just can't. I'm likely going to a current generation Audi A4.
So the new BMW 340i gets to 60 in 4.2 or 4.0 seconds with better tech infotainment for just about the same price. I use to have the 19 Infiniti Q50rs but I’m looking for something better now. The Infiniti is kind of losing its competitiveness.. it’s time for an upgrade and update on the exterior and tech even the mechanics on it. I’m not sure what’s Infiniti future plans for the next Q50 if any plans for a new one since USA market moving towards suv, cuv etc. I like the Infiniti but I feel like it’s still on the market because of the leasing deals due to heavy incentives they’ve tact on at the dealerships. 🤷🏿♂️ ... I’m a fan but I want them to do better
A decently loaded M340xi stickers around $65k to $70k. Can maybe get them around $60k. A Red Sport Stickers around $58k to $62k and can be had for around $46k to $48k. The BMW might be worth the extra $10k-$12k to those who want to spend $60k. A lease is easily around $200 to $250 more a month for the BMW. The BMW's tech blows Infiniti's our of the water and the car is a hair faster to 60. The Red Sport is a very nice car new for around the prices I listed. I Recently drove the M340xi a couple weeks ago and it feels like a $55k msrp car to me. I think they're overpriced. An M3 is priced where it should be.
@@StlPike2004 I agree! The BMW M340i is a bit overpriced for sure it can shed at least 8-10k from its price. I believe the m3 is priced right but the dealership have gouged those m3’s up to 90k if I’m not mistaken
Beemers leak oil the second you drive them out of the dealership …
So what if the new 3 series is quicker ? It’s still a car that will cost a ton of money in maintenance repairs … lol 😆
These are great to lease. Infiniti always has aggressive deals on these. I leased a Q50, my payments were only $389/month.
How many miles could u go a year ?
@@anthonyhudson431 Depends on the lease you get. You can get 10k, 12k and 15k. 10k miles a year is the cheapest lease per month.
@@BryanW916 so have it sit in your garage for 10k a year 🤔🤔🤔🤔 that’s nothing
@@anthonyhudson431 Well, that's how leases work... lol
If you drive more than any of the allowed miles/year then don't lease...
I am buying my q50 and only pay 358 a month. Lesson.. don't buy brand new wait a year or 2 and capitalize on the savings. And get a premium or sport, tune it yourself and you are making way more than a red sport 👌
Steve i really do have to ask, where did you get that info about more Nissan plus and less luxury?
It’s not inside info. Read it in an interview with Nissan exec in Automotive News, I believe.
@@stevehammes Based on several interviews with the head of Infiniti and Nissan, that statement is totally wrong and the individual that stated it made an innocent error. Once again Steve, many thanks for an informative review.
Really a shame what happened to this brand. The original G35 had a terrible interior even by the standards of 2003, but it was a blast to drive, with sharp steering and a very playful but controllable back end. Gen 2 was much nicer to sit in, but most of the fun was gone. The Q50 makes the G37 feel like an M3. They completely lost the plot and became obsessed with gimmicks like steer by wire, and the VCT engine.
Imagine if instead of spending a decade+ on a variable compression engine that doesn't do anything for fuel economy, they instead spent that decade 1. Developing something to rival MB-UX instead of the worst infotainment system still on sale (now that Lexus has gone touchscreen) and 2. Nailing a picture of the M340i to a wall, and not letting any of the chassis engineers go home until they made something that handled better. Nissan also should've dumped JATCO years ago and gone ZF. Their ATs unlike their CVTs seem to be at least capable of not self detonating, but they're nowhere near as good as the ZF 8-speed.
The Q50 will probably go away in a year or two when all of its customers depart for the TLX Type-S, and be replaced with a luxury package Maxima to rival the ES350, basically reviving what the I35 was the last time Infiniti was a completely irrelevant brand.
Sad but true!
For that price I’ll take Audi RS3 or S4 or even BMW M340I.
those are crap
Does it still shred belts tho? That’s a no for me.
Do they shred belts?
Nice car but not compellin Ace review
This car did have DAS.
Incorrect. It's optional and wasn't included here.
I feel like Genesis has taken the spot in the market that Infiniti once held.
Your right and the g70 3.3T is faster someone put it up on UA-cam.
@@thecarsectionthecarsection6420 I just test drove a G70 3.3 TT and my Red Sport feels faster and pulls harder. Both are nice cars. I wish the Infiniti had cooled seats like the G70 does. I just got a new Red Sport and the lease on the G70 would have been $125 more a month.
The Kia Stinger GT2 AWD is an infinitely better vehicle than this one for about $10k less.
Lol
I was just about to say this. I prefer the Kia Stinger GT2 AWD.
@@HondaXr650L well I guess someone likes ugly cars with less power.
so is the Genesis G70 until Infiniti updates
well, you lower it and fat tires, and upgrade turbos, to 600hp, the Stinger is great, but Infiniti brand does hold
As a guy who unwaveringly loves his Infiniti G-Sport, I’m disappointed in the Q50. It was ok when new, but having driven one as a loaner a few times, I felt as though it wasn’t as agile and “muscular” as my car - honestly it felt like a gussied-up Altima. Notwithstanding the issues at their HQ, I hope Infiniti can rebound with models that gives it a serious chance at a comeback, considering Genesis and a few others have some great, fresh offerings. - Great review as always, Steve!
This car is a dinosaur.
@Enzo Morf True, but for the price you are paying you would expect to get a little more futures not same stuff from 2014.
Infiniti didn’t change anything from 2014 .
For that money, I'll take the M2.
Numbers are awesome.. Exterior is very SEDATE.
Yes i gotta soft spot for these too and cant explain it. 👍🏾 good good review and camera work too
Highly outdated and wouldn't spend my money on this Q50
“Turning heads” no I drove this car for a while and never got any looks a few but very little, I get a lot more turns from my BMW F10. Such a fun car to take out on the highway and great in the snow would 100% drive this car again one day. I have to say drive by wire is just kind of pointless, it feels very easy but you feel nothing from the road and that can be weird sometimes. If your buying this car DO NOT expect the same luxury out of this car compared to other cars on the market like the 5 series I talked about earlier.
I agree with just about everything you said but that gen 5 Series blends into traffic without anyone giving it a second look.
Enzo Morf I agree with you I always thought the q50 interior was very nice and modern but I hear so many people say “it looks old” and it doesn’t at all. But it’s not as luxurious, seats not as comfortable, no folding mirrors, no electronic trunk, no ambient lighting, stiffer suspension which is understandable, it’s not as luxurious but also not as expensive. I am not bashing this cars in any way I really liked when I had my red-sport, plus it felt like a beast when driving perfect sleeper.
Bmw is for basic ass people and there slow only car that is worth a shit is the m series and even that is over priced infiniti makes way faster cars bmw = EUROTRASH
Christopher Villafana Did you not even read what I said? I drove an Infiniti for a while for f sake
@@coleyuhas7891 SO THAT MAKES INFINITI SUCK JUST CAUSE U DROVE ONE ?
The Q50 is very long in the tooth and needs a major refresh to both the interior and exterior. A better alternative would be the Acura TLX!
Yes sn intriguing same bullshit car that infiniti cant figure out how to revamp the q50. The whole infiniti line needs to get a whole new design team.
The price is just not competitive when put up against much better options in the same price range. Interior is an after thought.
I can’t get into the quilted seats manufactures are doing.
Do you know Hyundai Sonata 2009 interior?
I will wait for the tlx type s
Nice, too small for us 6’3” guys
Not at all
The LAST thing the parent company of Nissan should do is to "transition" the Infiniti brand to something resembling the crappy Nissan brand. It's bad enough that Nissan AND Infiniti have fallen very far from their once-proud reliability ratings of the 90s and early 2000s. Nissan and the public would be much better off by completely shutting down further production of the Infiniti if this is the best they can do. smh...
Dave, Nissan hasn´t even unleased like a dozen new models yet, due to covid, and this car is an ace tuning platform like the GTR
That 2021 Jeep Rubicon 392 hits 0-60 in 4.5 sec... lol 😂 infiniti, f*** that sport exaust and get a racing suspension. Do some keel exercises to tighten that shii back up. 🤙🏽 and those rims 🤦🏽♂️ see you infiniti in my jeep Rubicon 392 smokin that ass lol 😆
boring and dated car! I had a lot of expectations for their 2021 model. They should just re-badge it to a maxima instead. Calling this luxury is an insult to luxury cars. Every other car on the market even Kia and Hyundai are better.
