I've a 65" Mitsubishi projection tv with multiple HDMI ports and it's fantastic. It was on a curb with a sign that indicated the picture was dim. I removed the projection bits and gave it a proper cleaning and the picture was bright again. I've had it for about 8 years. It's nice when you're able to reuse items and keep them from a landfill.

If you dont mind the bulk they can make for decent tvs and you can usually get the bulb module itself for around $25

That glitch is tré The Matrix. In fact, being made in 2004, someone probably watched their brand new copies of The Matrix sequel DVDs on that screen.

What size is that Sony WEGA? I got a 42" I picked up off of marketplace not too long ago, did a video on that and do plan to eventually put an LED lamp inside of it. Haven't had the time to even bother with it since, it's just sitting in the garage cause I was lazy to bring the XBR bravia from that video to the garage for how heavy it was lmao

With so much plastic from the carcase of the T.V. projection module, and the likelihood of collecting much more plastic (from dumped electronics), perhaps you should build a clipper, and extruder, to make your own filaments! That, would be a great video, as well.

that's definitely a fresnel lens, maybe it still has another diffusion or similar layer on it?

I'd figure out how to run my own digital media through it that would look cool with the effect, or you could just play the Alien movies on it in repeat. That would look cool, because it definitely looks like the tech they used in the films.

Circuit Shitty. There's a blast from the past.

I believe the screen has something to do with the color mixing as you have the primary colors leds use

It's sorta like a Fresnel lens.

Silica dried in electric oven, in a cooler, with water damaged screens, lcd, etc, FOR 6+ MONTHS will get rid of most water damage, if its not too many lines that look separated, water wicked lines will resolve, usually with 0 percent humidity, with lots of time.
I have 2 new computers in this setup, I can see every couple weeks the water damage returns to normal screen appearance, with no defects at all.
It takes a long time, first month in you will see no difference, the next several months the damage gets less contrasting, in last months the screen resolves inwards back to normal non water damaged state. Has to be silica, or other super absorbing materials, could use lye but expensive and not very good with electronics, silica cat litter cured in an electric oven, to above water boiling temp for an hour will get beads to negative humidity, and 0 percent humidity in a well sealed cooler. 6 months takes a bit, but if its 2000 dollar laptops, hell yes they should be dried out.

Nice teardown, that's definitely some cool tech. Fire to the wire, and it's alive! I'd look into it some more, maybe get rid of that itchy glitchy issue (though i has its charm and could be used in performance, art etc.) and hack something useful.
Cyberpunk cool... unlike the late stage capitalist dystopia we live in, it has some rad aesthetics.
    Discombobulated HDMI, absolute garbage indeed.

I must say the whole notion of “late stage capitalism” is such a silly doomer idea. I can live off 15 hours of works per week and still have healthcare in the US, thats better than a hundred years ago.
When people say late stage capitalism, I think they dont realize how low things can go. I dont hear it from romanians for instance.

@@RinoaL I'm not sure what the situation with rental prices, income disparity or living costs vs wages is like over there. Here in Poland it's not far from great but not terrible either, I guess. There's no real social unrest over it, unlike France for example.

DO NOT FIX IT!! Hahaha, its perfect in it's own cyberpunk way. Nice find!
Def needs to become an art installation. By the way, was that X-Files agent Mulder I saw a bit of? 👍

That's absolutely a Fresnel lens. That circular pattern is indicative.

This is perhaps a weird thing to be amused by. But as someone else who pulls a lot of things out of the trash to mess with its extremely funny to me to see someone else induce the "oh god she's gonna drag this home with us isn't she" face on someone else.

I have a friend that brings me stuff like this to fix all the time, I end up telling him if I fixed it, you're still only going to get $30 for it and ill charge $50 lol and old low spec laptops, waste of time. there piling up here.

Nice! I've salvaged quite a number of these...10 years ago. Every one had the same failure mode: the color wheel exploded. Sadly nobody has them around here anymore, they are long gone.
Aluminum extrusions, power electronics parts, speakers, lenses. I am still trying to figure out a good way to cut the plastic they use for the front screens, it just likes to shatter.
I'd check the power rails on yours, they are clearly marked, but I guess it may just be a failure in the DLP board.
