Bobby Starr is awesome and handsome and can sing in little Sonny’s tone . He has an higher range in singing. He did it. The Intruders were awesome❤ still to this day.
I think that all of the REAL good music is long behind us...Musically the 60's and 70's was the best era for music. I also think that the younger generation know deep down inside it's true. A lot of todays musicians are sampling our music from old school days' These classic songs will live forever.
Charles Drake so true, that music was and is forever. Many are gone: marvin Gaye, isaac Hayes or Barry White, but their music stays forever. I'm from Germany and i am glad to grow up in the 70's and with REAL music!
But I am trying to write and produce like this today 2017! Not easy for sure. the bar was high with great writers and producers and of course, the musicians. Check out 'There I go falling on love again' by Chiquita Green - Philly from 2008 but with a melody from 1976!
@der mann mann, Amen to your comment about the Philly classics. Members of local orchestra often played background. I often wonder how the musicians felt floating between classical and soul. Like, did anyone ever defect/run away and refuse to go back?
I love this group.! I burned out cowboys to girls.. My Grandchildern know this group from me playing their music.! The song I Always Love My Mama is my favorite Mothers Day Song...!!!
I sort of feel the same way right now, hearing this song, from the same era, for the first time. Great soul music never dies...it will always have the same effect on me.
Interesting. This is the first time I've ever heard this song, and I'm 38 years old (born in '73). I grew up right outside of New York City, and I remember being given my first record player at 5 years old and also being given my mom's old 45s. I still remember the first time I put "You Are Everything" by the Stylistics (on a purple and orange labelled Avco record) on my record player and I listened to that song and fell in love with it as my mom sang it, overhearing it playing from my room.
Russell Thompkins jr lead singer of Stylistics for over 33 years...and yes his songs were fantastic. Q4 straight top hits and 3 albums. Russell is still touring and singing today. Look up Russell Thompkins jr and new Stylistics. On you tube.
That was the Heart of the Philly Sound. Muted Trumpets lines on top. All the Key Players. Leon playing that Upright Acoustic Piano. Earl with the Hard Rim and Fills. Sigma!
This here really reminds me of Junior High School and the dances in the Gym. It's been a long time since I heard this one. Thank God for Soul Train what a historical TV show it was back then. I saw a brother doing the swooping Cha-Cha in the background. My bestfriend Le Ron taught me how to do that kind of cha-cha and I've never forgotten it.. Thank Man..Peace
On this same Soul Train episode, Bobby Starr lip-synched Little Sonny's vocals on "Cowboys To Girls". You can se it on UA-cam. You can also see Little Sonny Lip synching HIS OWN vocals with the rest of the group on "I'll Always Love My Mama" and "I Wanna Know Your Name". The rest of The Intruders on both shows are all original": Robert "Big Sonny" Edwards, Phil Terry, and Eugene "Bird" Daughterty .
The Intruders our the bomb unique awesome they have there own style , want to here them in concert just love the Intruders. They remind me of my high school days.Nobody can top the intruders.lovr you guys Susie Rivera
Without the Intruders there'd be no TSOP.Gamble & Huff got the financial backing to start their own label because of their success with the Intruders. Most people don't know that. That information came from Gamble & Huff themselves.Hall & Oates were asked who was their favorite group. They said the Intruders. They loved the Intruders harmony. They could hit those high notes.Listen to pray for me.
Growing up in the late 60s hearing the Music back then thats all l heard my older sisters play at that time and place l couldnt understand. But as the years passed and l grew up listening to KRLA back then to now. I understood the meaning of the words in each song cause l under stood from back then to now those were love songs of then and now which can not be replaced but all ways hit a soft spot in my heart all ways and for ever till the day l die which is never.. And l you all like me will all ways cherish these beautifull love songs.. 😎 Por/ Vida
This is really a great tune and Bobby is an excellent singer, but to me without Little Sonny out front, you could easily call the group by another name and I'd even like it better then. Glad to see and hear this, thank you!
little sonny left from 1970-1973. the guy on lead for this song and songs during that period was Bobby Starr. decent voice but not that power house voice that little sonny had.
lol You got it. But I think we'll have to hold onto our albums, 45s and 8 tracks or find a time machine.. because they just don't do it like this anymore.. the musicianship, the choreography, instrumentation and the talent...can't be found today..
Thanks for posting this song. I so agree with prettycountrygirl Bobby is sooooooooo fine! Even now He's not a bad looking Senior. This song is so good. Thanks again!
@nixx66 Yeah but he lost his Mother and wife within a very short time period. Lillel Sonney had such an Incredible voice....that was a sad day in 1990 when I heard the news...Theh had so many great hits in the 60's....Amen.
Thanks,I have a few lp's of The Intruders.. I was like he sure looks different from what I have?and finer I might add LOL.. Ok yes here on youtube, I've seen lip-synched from both.. I should have know better Thank again..
When you find out can you please....please....let me know. I have been looking for it for a long time now and can't find it. If it were not for You Tube and our ability to listen to music from back in the day we would really be deprived of good music. The crap they are promoting today is a disgrace to R&B, Soul music and all the artist who paved the way for those non talented souless singers out today.
THIS IS A YOUNG BOBBY STAR WITH A HIGH RANGE. . LITTLE SONNYS VOICE WAS MORE DRAGGING AND ROUGH. BOBBY STARR HAD A HIGHER RANGE. SOME SONGS LITTLE SONNY HAD TO REACH FOR A NOTE BUT ONCE HE GOT IT HE SOUNDED SO GOOD.
I Remamber seeing them at The Apollo Theater with the Delfonics & Stylistics♡ The Best Show Ever!!!
I bet.
Man I wish we could go back in those times again miss this kinda music
What a great song and excellent performance by Bobby Starr. Still sounds so good almost 50 years on. Wish we could go back to those days.
Vintage....to the Max💖💖💖
Bobby Starr is awesome and handsome and can sing in little Sonny’s tone . He has an higher range in singing. He did it. The Intruders were awesome❤ still to this day.

Tru dat. Fact is, all the good stuff was done from the 60's to the mid 80's. 20 or so years of iconic music and performers that we'll never see again.
+Charles Drake .....I agree....Never again will we have this great of music.
Dave Dawkins exactly! those days are over! Thank GOD for UA-cam
Charles Drake so true, that music was and is forever. Many are gone: marvin Gaye, isaac Hayes or Barry White, but their music stays forever. I'm from Germany and i am glad to grow up in the 70's and with REAL music!

Born/raised in Philly so I grew up listening to all of the Intruders' songs. Everyone played their records and albums. My favorite group.
Ain't nothing like the the music from the 215 North Philly all day
TSOP: The Sound of Philadelphia
I bet he don't love you like I love. I bet he don't need you, like I need you. THE INTRUDERS
One of the most underrated groups ever, the Intruders... Great group.
You are right! I hope they get put in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and get together again.
Back in the day they all were great. I mean great!!!!
❤❤
Man the Intruders were the slow drag, house party group of the day...bak then
......along with Stay in My Corner....dancing with the blue lights in the basement.....
Philly soul! What classic group! Sing their butts off!
the instrumentation to these philly classics are fantastic
@der mann mann, Amen to your comment about the Philly classics. Members of local orchestra often played background. I often wonder how the musicians felt floating between classical and soul. Like, did anyone ever defect/run away and refuse to go back?
Gamble-Huff had some of best arrangers: Thom Bell, Bobby Martin, Norman Harris and Jack Faith.
