Mizuno 900 forged, bought secondhand!!! They work for me. Yes, I'd try Srixon (when they're 3 years old!!!). It's good to hear that you recommend that every club is fitted to the buyer, as I couldn't agree more. As an owner of Callaway Rogue X irons (which my wife has now pinched!!!), I was surprised how much grief they got on UA-cam for having the temerity to have a 7-iron at 27.5°. Suddenly it seems to have become an acceptable loft! Were the UA-camrs in 2018 wrong in view of what has happened to club lofts since?
Love what they’ve done with the ZX4 looks. A great combo set would be ZX4 5 iron, ZX5 6-7 irons, ZX7 8-PW. Lots of forgiveness throughout the set and they blend so well.
i was about to buy a set of ZX7s, now after watching your vid, I'm thinking ZX4-4iron, ZX5 in the 5, 6 and seven and 8 to pw in the ZX7, thanks for making me think about this and for the great review
I have the the 765’s players in 5-pw and use a 4 hybrid. I’m thinking the same set because I hate hybrids and wouldn’t mind a little forgiveness on the 5/6/7.
What’s crazy is Mark probably has a higher swing speed and accuracy than 80% of people who watch his vids, and yet he’s no issue going hybrid after his 6i, and using a ‘game improvement’ club. Think we all need to remove the ego from the game. Got myself a chipper and I’ll be trying these for my upcoming club fitting, the blend option of all 3 seems to make so much sense
It’s not always about ego to play a players iron…Mark is much younger than I am…i grew up on blades, am comfortable with blades, and actually have trouble finding the center of a larger club…and now that I’m older, I rather shoot 85 playing a soft buttery blade that I hit pure 4 or 5 times a round, than shoot 80 with a game improvement club that lacks feel…it’s kind of like condoms…once you go without, it’s hard to go back…not to be crass, but that’s the best analogy I can come up with…I don’t care that I only hit my 8 iron 140…it’s just a number on the club…I think the ego thing works more in the other direction where folks feel they need to hit their X iron miles…not everyone is playing golf to shoot the lowest score each time out…some enjoy the excitement of hitting a pure shot, which is rare, but feels like nothing else…
What's funny is if you go watch his earlier videos when he first started is he would absolutely trash on any club that wasn't a blade. Basically called them useless clubs and now that's all he games
I had a spring cleaning with my bag. I took out all the clubs that I don't hit well or don't look forward to hitting. That opened up some space in the bag for some better gear. I went to my local fitter with specific needs. I needed a club for 200 yards and to fix my wedge gapping. My clubs now overlap and mesh well. I kept the 5-iron in the bag but only use it to punch out of trouble and on windy days. Those Srixon irons look nice but I'm happy with what I have for now.
Mark - really appreciate all your videos! I'd love to see a dedicated review of the ZX4 MKII irons. I think this one is special, and is something the majority of golfers can relate to. Seems like this could be the iron all of us weekend golfers could actually game and feel like a player instead of the high handicappers that we actually are. I'm a 16 hc and last year started with Ping G425 irons, finished with Cobra LTDx. Thinking seriously about checking these new ZX4's, I'm tired of bulky clubs, but want the game improvement with big distance and max forgiveness, but also want the precision, accuracy and feel in my short irons. It sounds like these new ZX4's could be the ticket. I've never owned anything Srixon before, need more info. Also think it would be cool to own these just so I could say "Zed-X" and nobody would know what the hell I was talking about!
Currently have Srixon irons .. combo x7 Pw-6 and x5 5&4.. made the switch a couple years ago .. can’t say how happy I’m with them .. the feel like you said compete with the best and funny how overlooked they are .. all my buddies were so surprised after they hit them
Thanks to you - Mark , I have 2 pitching wedges … I play p790’s and play the pw as my 9 and have a vokey 46 as my pw. I also changed over winter to remove my 5 and 4 irons (play as 4 & 3) to hybrids to see how I’d go with flight distances in the cold went so well (I’m in Australia so it’s summer now) I’ve kept them in the bag as a full time test
Been playing zx5 mk 2 for about 7 weeks (early Aus release) coming out of original zx7 and they really are awesome…. V sole still coming in clutch and the dispersion is even better particularly front to back
The problem with fitting around a 7 iron is I don’t know if I want to stop the set at a 5 or 4 iron, the gapping is never perfect and you have to wait until til the set arrives to buy wedges around your lower end distances. I’d love to be fit to get each club at the distance I want and to blend sets if necessary.
I play older Ben Hogan forged Apex Edge Pro irons. But I only go to 7iron, then 6 iron/hybrid Adams, 5 Adams hybrid and 4 Ben Hogan hybrid. Definitely agree on the fitting smaller sets of irons and then tailoring at the top and bottom.
Mark, I game last year's ZX4 irons PW - 7 iron, then I go with 26 and 23 degree Mizuno 923 hybrids with the same shafts as my irons. Great combo! I am so excited about this coming season with my new clubs, I am playing lighter shafts due to some injuries (Modus 105's instead of KBS $-taper's) and I am loving the ease of use and great feel. Nice review; I hope the fact that your playing the ZX4 irons gets more people thinking about trying game improvement clubs.
I like playing with a short bag. 9- clubs. SS 96-98. RTX6@56, CBX Zipcore@48, ZX7@42, ZX5 @36, ZX5 @30, TM Dhy@24, 7W @21, Drv@10.5 . Some gaps are a bit big, but making the shot is the fun of it all. I can easily go 7-10 with other club mixes but the base is the 48, 42, 36, 30 core.
Got fitted for the ZX4 yesterday and ordered them. Was also fitted for the PXG gen 5 0311 but the dispersion with the Srixons were much better and felt similar to the PXGs. First time I’ve ever been fitted for irons and can’t wait to get them in my hands!!!
I’ve been for a fitting today at the Hertsmere which is a Srixon centre of excellence and they have the 7 iron fitting but also have a variety of 4 iron and PW to also test which was great. I would definitely recommend having done many fittings it was a very good one.
Mark, I enjoy you incite on clubs and have made purchases on your advice in my progressing as a beginner to an average golfer at 65 years old and playing 8 years, I was playing a set of Cleveland launcher turbo irons. last fall I purchased a set of ZX4 irons and like every aspect of those irons including looks. So I'm progressing from SGI. to Gi. , I liked the wider sole of the old ZX4, yes I can see the reason for creating the same looks, but the reason I purchased the ZX4 was the wider sole. Its like a security blanket in my mind for miss hits. Why the change of sole width ? One thing I have found out about golfers, Many people think they are better golfers than their score card reflects , I'm a realist and not afraid to admit it .Thank you
I really think over the last few years that Srixon has become the company that makes the best looking irons. They are so clean and tight. Gaming PXG 0211's
I always liked the idea of using a mixed....blended set of irons, always. Especially the longer irons. I thought it was brilliant when Nike first came into the market with their Pro Combo forged irons many years ago. I'd do that with these Z's, if I could buy them individually.
Currently playing PXG irons and really like the feel and sound, I play with a couple fellas that play Srixon and I think you would have to pry them from their cold dead fingers they love them and I see why.
I’ve not long purchased the ZX5 sets first models. 4-PW for £320 and they are unbelievable. It’ll take some going for me to move away from Srixon irons now. Haven’t tried the driver or anything else from Srixon/Cleveland but I’m definitely going to
Srixon HQ is just down the street from me here in Huntington Beach. We should have played a round at Tigers old stomping grounds at Meadowlark. LOL Can't wait to test the new irons.
Planning on getting fitted for new irons in the spring. Am open but think the winner will be the ZX4, Mizuno Jpx 923 hot launch or Ping G430. Concern is fitting is done with only a 7i off a mat (don't like hitting off mats); so how do I know the full set is going to work off grass. Would be looking at 6i (25*-26*) to LW (58*) so 8 irons for Srixon and Mizuno and 9 for Ping. The Ping's would cost about $1,700 so a lot of faith needed based upon only a 7i.
I never review anything - but I can tell you the set of ZX7 II I just bought - (4-PW) are unbelievable, feel, forgiveness, distance control. I'm blown away. I know you are Srixon sponsored - but I think you undersold how unreal these irons are. 🙂
The only pro on the planet using the big clinkers...I absolutely LOVE THAT. I am a 3 hdcp and turning 50 and struggling for distance now with my Apex Pro's, I am really thinking about a bigger iron set after my recent struggles and watching you. Thanks Mark, keep smashing barriers and MYTHS!!! #bladessuck
It just makes the game so much easier. Even if you do a combo, then you don’t have to feel like you have to crush a longer iron. The club does the work.
I honestly thought you would have been gaming the ZX5 over the ZX4. I do like the look of the Srixon clubs mark I and mark II. Not many stockist in the UK to try them out. My next set is definitely going to be the ZX range. I am a 17hcp player with aspirations to improve.
I find all of this spin on golf clubs very much the same thru most manufacturers. After looking at so many irons I've just ordered the Cleveland XL Launchers and they look fantastic. Also looked at these ZX's and also Stealth, but the Cleveland are great value for money, look good and feel great, they also I believe, leave the others for dead. And yes I am well aware of the Srixon and Cleveland relationship.
Right now I have SnakeEyes 675XC 6-LW. If I could get the same loft gap between the club models from Srixon I would like 3-5 in ZX4 6,7,8 in ZX5, and 9,PW, AW in the ZX7 that would be an ideal combo set for me.
My latest fitting was with a 6 iron. Makes a big difference, sitting closer to middle iron, and not really relying purely on loft for ball flight stats. My 5, and 4 iron feel good as a result.
Entire fitting industry is somewhat of a scam. They “promote” combo sets but fit with either 6 or 7. If you are an elite fitting studio you MUST have long medium and short irons as fitting heads. I know you will then need shafts for all of those, but it takes money to run a good business. Same thing with driver length shafts. My buddy does NOT want to get fitted into anything longer than 44 and every time hes gone for a fitting he was “forced” to be fit into 45 and longer.
@@lkae4 1. I never said anything about carpet, I’d never get fit for irons indoors. 2. Why wouldn’t you? If you are getting a combo set and a fitting facility only carries 6i there is a good chance your 6i will be more of a friendly iron, so why would NOT want to hit an iron you are about spend a lot of money on? Yes most people can hit short irons but not every short iron is the same. Offset, top line, bounce/sole if im spending that much money on an iron set i would want to hit it prior.
Hi Mark. I've learned from you a lot because I agree with what are you saying. And yes, we should have a fun with golf and if I feel that diferent clubs are helping me to have more fun...I will play them 🙂
I have a set of the Mach 1’s now will be my second year. I’ve gotten “used” to them and love hitting them straight. It seems like I’ve gotten better with them in my hands.
Good solid honest review...glad the title didn't start with "underdog, never heard of, no one will buy"etc etc Seriously considering the 7s, this review clarified a few questions i had. Thanks /mc.
Mark's data from his Srixon visit corresponds to what I saw in my fitting last week. The ZX5 and ZX7 are much more similar in every respect and the ZX4 is the outlier. Ball speed, launch, spin, carry distance, and at least for me "feel". I thought both the ZX5 and ZX7 felt awesome, while for me the ZX4 felt pretty crappy. I also didn't like the noticeably longer blade length, and wide sole, of the ZX4. I went with the ZX5. I think the better players that have some speed with go mostly with the ZX7, while slower players who need a bit of forgiveness will go with the ZX5. I'm surprised Mark is in the ZX4 and not the ZX5 or 7.
I play a triple combo set in these: ZX4 - 4 Iron, hazardous Black hybrid shaft Zx5 - 5, 6 iron, modus 105 Zx7 - 7, 8, 9, PW, Modus 120 They’re all bent weaker starting with PW at 47° 42° 37° 33° 29° 26° 23°
Defintely interesting content again from you Mark, really love the idea of blending a set of irons. Something I haven't done in the past. I have been thinking about going into more game improvement help irons being off 2 folk assume you should be playing blades.
srixon and Mizuno both do blending probably better than other brands. i game the i230 and you probably wouldn't want a mix of i59,i230,i525 where zx4,5,7 go well as do the Jpx range hot metal pro, forged etc
As someone who bags a half set most of the time, I wish more companies would sell irons individually. Gimme a ZX4 4 iron, ZX5 7iron, ZX7 PW and a 54 High Toe and I’m good to go.
I wanted to test the 4 but the fitters said they struggled to get supplies from Srixon , which is a shame , they need to do more to market and supply their products. I got T400 and love them but if the pros could had reliable supply of Srixon I might have got the 4s.
Love this idea of blending them, its just hard when essentially every fitter around me has either a 6 or 7 iron in each of the brands. Just dont know how we can have the same fitting experience that you get Mark, when we cant even hit the clubs, wish we could.
I have a fast club head speed. (95m/hr 7) Swallowed my ego and went ZX5 AW to 6 and ZX4 5 - 4. I am not a robot and just want the ball to move forward the rough distance I need. 😂
Been looking forward to this video since I saw the release from Srixon earlier today, great video as always Mark! Would love a combo set of the ZX5s & ZX7s
Thanks MArk. I have been swinging Srixon's for awhile, X5's. If I go with 6 and 5 in the 4's and change my shaft to R in the Nippon, would the softer shaft increase height? I am 58 and I am a 2 handicap. Would like to know what you think Thanks
Completely agree with you Mark regarding fitting but when all the companies cant be bothered to supply full sets to test how can you possibly make a very accurate set up in your bag? What im going to say now isnt a dig at all as I understand marketing/advertisement deals etc, but it shows how much every single golf brand only cares about one thing and thats money! when all the social media influencers/ambassadors etc etc get sent sets like 5,7,pw or even full sets sometimes and yet for our fittings its a bloody 7 iron and thats it! They would rather line their pockets than give us the best service they can and yes that includes every brand!
Mark, I do really enjoy your posts. But, I have to ask, Why are you using ZX4's, you do seem to have a good consistant swing? I know they are more forgiving but why not ZX5-7 combo for your skill set? Great to hear your comments on this. Thanks
I have the 765. My favorite irons that I have had. I went from ping G25 to these and will never look back. Forgiveness is marginally different. You can’t beat the looks and forgiveness.
So one point you missed is that the 7 has no tungsten on the base of the cavity - 5 is the same but only until 8i 7,6,5,4 all have it and the zx4 has it through out
I bought a blended set of ZX7 / ZX5 in late 2021 based on your reviews and a fitting and love them! I'm itching for something new lately, but wondering if the MK II would be too small of a change to make it worth it. Any opinion on that?
Thanks Mark...great video. I play to an 11-index and will definitely test both the ZX4 and ZX5. Just a quick question -- is the stock shaft the same throughout the lineup?
I still play z785 and I can tell you nothing compares to the feel of these through the face. Mizuno has that reputation but with the sole of the srixons I can’t see myself playing any other irons any time soon.
Hi great video! I have a question as beginner just getting started into golf, can i straight away pick up zx5mk2 for long term use or i should get zx4mk2 instead? Appreciate if you could give me some advice 🙏🏼 thankyou
Hi Mark, amazing review, do you thing there is a big difference between the zx7 irons and the zx7 mark II? in terms of forgiveness are the Mark II´s more difficult or just the same? Thank you in advance and greetings from Gran Canaria.
Where I live it’s so hard to even see a full set of irons let alone test each one to work on a combo set. Manufacturers please start providing fitters with full sets, it’s madness why they can’t.
Mark, you mentioned that you game the ZX4 mkII, could your provide a little more info please. Namely, did you combo / blend your own set with the ZX5 at all. Given your relationship with Srixon, I can can certainly see no loss in performance using their offering. That said, if not Srixon, what would you be gaming? Thanks!
Id like to see a comparison of the ZX4 8 iron to a ZX5 7 iron to see spin, distance and height numbers. In other words is it just the degree of loft or do they actually perform different. I dont know if a ZX4 8 iron is the same loft as a ZX5 7 iron but it would be interesting. Blending can be a tricky decision. I.E. Where do u stop the one and start the next one.
Nobody does a slow-mo close-up glamour shot like you, Mark - lol - never once is it not covered with grass. I get it, you take it outside (fancy pants), but would it KILL YOU to towel it down before you do the head-shot? Love the content - seriously keep up the great work. (And the ZX-4 just took the lead into the clubhouse as "most shockingly improved" generation-over-generation. It's stunning.)
Great video Mark. I would be interested in how the new driving irons perform from Srixon as I have the U65 in the bags and have had for years now such a great club for links golf ⛳️
What irons are in your golf bag, and have you ever tested Srixon irons?
P790s. Have tested Srixon but it was a while ago.
Reality is any irons in the last few years are no better than the previous version.
I just picked up a set of Mizuno JPX Hot Metal HL irons. I like the new look of the ZX4's!
ZX5 7 Combo set. Have played Srixon since about 2015

4 to wedge zx5 mk1
Love what they’ve done with the ZX4 looks. A great combo set would be ZX4 5 iron, ZX5 6-7 irons, ZX7 8-PW. Lots of forgiveness throughout the set and they blend so well.
Would be good to see Mark do a video blending these and having the fitter adjust the lofts for gapping. Ric
I have a set of last year's ZX7s 5 to PW (love them) but I think they blending set you just mentioned would work perfectly...like it a lot 👍
That is almost exactly what I am going to do with the exception of going ZX5 with the 8-iron. Can’t wait to buy my irons as there are still snow here.
Just got fitted today for the ZX range, 7´s in GW to 8, and 5´s in 7-5.
I rented a set of ZX5 irons on vacation and was very impressed. Never played Srixon but they were very good looking and ready to hit.
i was about to buy a set of ZX7s, now after watching your vid, I'm thinking ZX4-4iron, ZX5 in the 5, 6 and seven and 8 to pw in the ZX7, thanks for making me think about this and for the great review
Like the sound of that.

Beautiful… I’d totally go for the 7s. That being said, the looks are so good… just so good… Why not?!?!?! Thanks for the sneak peek Mark!
As always Mark , great insight to a manufactures thinking of building clubs for high handicap golfers to Low handicap golfers.
Got the zx4 previous mark...I love em...but the new ones are amazing looks wise 👌
REALLY good looking irons!
I was just fitted for a combo set 5s in P-8 and 4s in 7-4 pumped to get them
Great video appreciate your honesty
I never review anything - but I can tell you the set of ZX7 II I just bought - (4-PW) are unbelievable, feel, forgiveness, distance control. I'm blown away.
I know you are Srixon sponsored - but I think you undersold how unreal these irons are. 🙂
Would love to see you get custom fit for a blended set, maybe even a ZX Utility at the top end!
#bladessuck
Funny you say that, I’ve got the apex pros and was thinking the exact same
It just makes the game so much easier.
They are always clean and beautiful looking irons.
Mp 225 and I like to try the new zx5. Great content Mark 👌
I hate being fit from a 7 iron. Cant believe how difficult it is to try a 4 iron in a fitting
That’s not a fitting. That’s a selling.
@@alexgoudkov4109 Why would you test a short iron? And on carpet? Almost everyone can hit almost every short iron considering wedges are blades.
And yes, we should have a fun with golf and if I feel that diferent clubs are helping me to have more fun...I will play them 🙂
Srixon all-day every day. 😃 A couple years older but love them. 👍
I have a set of the Mach 1’s now will be my second year. I’ve gotten “used” to them and love hitting them straight. It seems like I’ve gotten better with them in my hands.
16:45 might be the cleanest divot ive seen out of that type of grass.
How blending the set will affect the gapping? What are the lofts of each model in your set?
I play a triple combo set in these:
ZX4 - 4 Iron, hazardous Black hybrid shaft
Zx5 - 5, 6 iron, modus 105
Zx7 - 7, 8, 9, PW, Modus 120
They’re all bent weaker starting with PW at 47° 42° 37° 33° 29° 26° 23°
Thanks for the info Jazzy, what’s your HC if you don’t mind me asking?
@@larrythechipman just hit a new low of 7.1!
@@jazzyjay4595 fantastic!! Well done and congratulations
Defintely interesting content again from you Mark, really love the idea of blending a set of irons. Something I haven't done in the past. I have been thinking about going into more game improvement help irons being off 2 folk assume you should be playing blades.
If I was to change would be trying these, look great
srixon and Mizuno both do blending probably better than other brands. i game the i230 and you probably wouldn't want a mix of i59,i230,i525 where zx4,5,7 go well as do the Jpx range hot metal pro, forged etc
As someone who bags a half set most of the time, I wish more companies would sell irons individually. Gimme a ZX4 4 iron, ZX5 7iron, ZX7 PW and a 54 High Toe and I’m good to go.
Love my ZX5s they just do what you want them to do
I have a combo of the zx7 and zx5 they are great
I wanted to test the 4 but the fitters said they struggled to get supplies from Srixon , which is a shame , they need to do more to market and supply their products.
We can’t. Same for mizuno. 1 club. Pointless.
Agreed. They're has to be some bending of lofts or you get a big gap in your yardages going from a zx7 to a zx5.
I have a fast club head speed. (95m/hr 7) Swallowed my ego and went ZX5 AW to 6 and ZX4 5 - 4. I am not a robot and just want the ball to move forward the rough distance I need. 😂
I got a couple chuckles at my ZX4 iron's until I won a 36 hole gross amateur tournament with even par on the first day.
Would like to know what you think
Thanks
Definitely impressed with the looks of the 4 compared to the last model 👍
Thanks
Nice review. Amazing distances with those irons.
This is a bit like the JPX line from mizuno right? Like 923 tour pretty similar to zx7, 923 forged to zx5 and 923 HMP zx4
I have the 765. My favorite irons that I have had. I went from ping G25 to these and will never look back. Forgiveness is marginally different. You can’t beat the looks and forgiveness.
Looking forward to this one 👓
Mark, Between the ZX5 and the Mizuno 923 forged, which sounds and feels better to you on equal strikes? Thanks!
What shafts were you testing these with ? Reg stiff brand?
So one point you missed is that the 7 has no tungsten on the base of the cavity - 5 is the same but only until 8i 7,6,5,4 all have it and the zx4 has it through out
I bought a blended set of ZX7 / ZX5 in late 2021 based on your reviews and a fitting and love them! I'm itching for something new lately, but wondering if the MK II would be too small of a change to make it worth it. Any opinion on that?
There's really no difference
Could a combo set replace my mizuno mp53 I got after watching a mark review 11 years ago, they are proving difficult to get out the bag 🤔
Those are EXCELLENT irons. I had a ton of trouble replacing my MP-64s. Went through three sets in under a year before I found one I'm happy with.
Thanks Mark...great video. I play to an 11-index and will definitely test both the ZX4 and ZX5. Just a quick question -- is the stock shaft the same throughout the lineup?
Yes but there are many options for stock shafts when you order. Stiffness or even brand like dg or kbs.
I still play z785 and I can tell you nothing compares to the feel of these through the face. Mizuno has that reputation but with the sole of the srixons I can’t see myself playing any other irons any time soon.
Z785 is the probably the best iron I have ever hit.
Hi great video! I have a question as beginner just getting started into golf, can i straight away pick up zx5mk2 for long term use or i should get zx4mk2 instead? Appreciate if you could give me some advice 🙏🏼 thankyou
Plz do the utility irons. Would be good to see the 23 deg 4 vs other zx series irons.
Interesting you mentioned you usually have 1000-1500 more 7i spin outside vs inside. Can you please mention why you think that is? Thanks. Great video
Thanks!
ua-cam.com/video/JDyXCyc2Vp0/v-deo.html
Test between MK 2 vs previous range?
It's stunning.)
waiting for my new order of zx7's to come in. cannot wait for upcoming season. finally replacing the trusty cleveland TA4s
The ZX7 is so good
Are you still gaming the ZX4? The lofts are a little strong and a bit offset but maybe if they are de lofted by one or two
Mark knowing that you play these can you tell me if the v t sole actually works?
Great video Mark. I would be interested in how the new driving irons perform from Srixon as I have the U65 in the bags and have had for years now such a great club for links golf ⛳️
Mark, is the VT sole for all golfers or should some avoid them?
Well done mark 👏 👍
great review as always. Though I do wonder why somebody with Marks speed plays ZX4.
