I swear they just do this shit on purpose to annoy the fans of the games, whether it be this movie or any other video game adaptation. It’s a slap in the face and a kick in the shins honestly.
Production process sounds like it was an absolute trainwreck. Definitely overspent on actors where they should have used the budget on visuals. But that plot ... damn. "Lilith is the siren" as the big plot twist ... hilariously bad.
Remember it got a 3/10 on ign that’s historically bad. Freddie got fingerd got a 4/10. Thor love and thunder got a 7. To put this into prospective Thor love and thunder is fucking awful. Do I need to even explain how bad Freddie got fingerd is and it got a 4 a 4.
I am almost 100% certain all the voice lines from kreig was just ripped from the game. All his voice lines sound like a separate audio source and he doesn't move or anything when he talks, like the actor was just silent the whole time and they just cut in audio from the game files.
Don't worry, i don't have any intention of seeing this piece of crap at any point in time, so spoilers don't matter It really didn't help that Eli Roth wanted to make Star Wars, Mad Max, Barbarella, The Fifth Element, Escape From New York into one movie called Borderlands (without adding Borderlands) and Randy basically went 'Yeah, whatever, do what you want. I still get paid at the end of the day' Motorhead are the best I'd have to replace my brain with rocks to even come close to slightly liking it
Red Letter media has a interesting theory about it. 1. Eli Roth ruined Craig Mazins script because he wanted to make a schlocky action film rather than the games schlocky dark humor. 2. Avi Arad broke Eli so hard that he left to make thanksgiving and refused to come back until tim miller came in. I know it was r rated, but they edited it all out even character development to save time or the film was even worse.
4:35 Named after the son of Prometheus. That actually fits with the nomenclature of the saga since a lot of it draws influence from Greek mythology. Also, it's pronounced "Duke Alien." 5:00 Of course, they went with his BL3 look. This is just a mishmash of every era throughout the saga! 6:38 Meanwhile, Roland's the one who has a class mod in BL1 that's literally called "Leader" (made by Dahl and Jakobs), plus he's literally the literal leader of the Crimson Lance in BL2. 8:03 The games already reference most of those movies. BL2 even has the Thunderball Fists which is a reference to 'The Super Inframan' (the name is, anyway). I only know about that movie thanks to Brandon Tenold. It's also called 'Inframan'. 9:55 They could have given her, say, an Atlas Masher but with a Hyperion color scheme. 9:58 It's like they spliced General Knoxx together with Commandant Steele. She reminds me of the bad guys from the 'V' miniseries (the original '80s one, of course). 10:18 Ackchyually, the Infinity's a Legendary, not a Unique. 10:44 Why does everyone say that?! He was like that in BL2, sure, but he wasn't like that in BL1. 11:40 Why doesn't that rocket launcher have a sight? They did a decent job making it look like it has a BL2-era Torgue barrel. Personally, I prefer Maliwan and Vladof barrels in-game. Huge damage doesn't do much good if the rockets are slow and inaccurate. 13:10 [cue Civvie 11's "sewer count" meme] 14:23 They could have said that he was using an Absorb shield. Only it was defective or something, so the "absorb" part ended up being literal. That would explain why he then had to "expel" the excess lead. 14:34 Holy smokes! I did a video on that, and I said exactly the same thing! They could also just say it was an Absorb shield, but regular ones are fine if they have the right parts. 24% absorb chance or better is usually good enough for an ordinary one. Not exception like a Sham (and Shams are still exception even if they're not 94%). 15:08 Yeah, why is she twirling those guns? None of them are lever-actions that could be spin-cocked. Btw, Jakobs didn't started making leverguns til BL3. 17:51 Ackchyually, it's "Sam Hill," not "Sam-hell."
This whole disaster has made me realize that i dont like borderlands as a series, the series just so happens to contain ONE of my favorite games of all time (borderlands 2). One hit wonder i guess, ive lost faith in this series.
They should have animated the movie and use top tier voice talent, i bet it would have cleared 10 million by now, cost much less and not piss off an established fanbase.
They’re about equal but I got smiles during my first experience with bl3. Those ended relatively quickly but with this. My soul slowly lifted out of my body with my BL journey of the last 11 years and I watched it get beat over the head and made a mockery of for an hour and 40 minutes.
That 150 Million could have been used to fix issues with past games like the memory leak glitch in Borderlands for example, Or take some money to fix what's wrong with those games and save the remainder of cash to go towards BL4.
I didn’t have a reason to buy new tales. So I did not. I only went to see this for the review since I’ve been covering this film a lot on my channel. So since I’ve only viewed one in full. Borderlands the movie by a country mile.
Eli Roth is so unbelievably out of touch thinking he can take a beloved franchise and just... do his own thing with it with no regard to any of the source material. its so stupidly arrogant and delusional
When it comes to writing stories in college, I was taught "first, write for yourself. that is your down-draft. Then revise it to write for close friends, and then revise and write for an audience." Clearly, Eli never got past phase ; "Write for yourself"
i would have atleast thought the movie had a coherent plot and everyone was just nitpicking cuz of the casting choices, but to find out that there is literally a non-existent plot surprises me
it's so funny see randy go off on twitter, bro's like "um so what *specifically* did you not like about the movie", "what was your favorite part of the movie" and the best ones are all his paul tassi ones
You were right, they did cut out a lot of stuff! Ellie and Scooter were supposed to have a greater role. Hammerlock and Wainwright were supposed to be in it!!! (For the latter, they were allegedly cut for reasons of "pacing". They were supposed to have a wedding scene. Gearbox really just got rid of the one reason I was anywhere near excited for the movie - and did you see the behind the scenes pics? THEY MADE THEM LOOK LIKE SHIT TOO. CANT HAVE SHIT ON PANDORA.)
I’ve seen a lot of “should have been animated” comments, but they totally could have done a Scott Pilgrim thing where they make it more over the top and pair animations with live action.
Man… I’ve seen so much bad stuff that I haven’t even been bothered to even go and see the movie. When it comes available to buy I may get it and watch it but even then, is it worth it?
This is the first movie I felt true rage for, first why was marcus not narrating and they say that the eridens had gods when there us no prof of that, they were a race fuled by science and oh my don't get me started on the story
If they turned BL3 into a movie that would’ve been plausible. The villains are very Bowser like. Characters from BL1 and 2 are weaved into 3. they would’ve had the new and old cast to work with.

it's like they're aware and jealous of the fact that they can't create anything new, only corrupt what already exists. Also 0 chance that a game that centers on cool guns was not going to get violated out in hollywood.
The only thing that gives me hope is that the Super Mario Bros movie back in the day was a big stinky pile as well and it didn’t have any bearing on how great the games to come were.
If I made this game and the director of the movie said that shit to me I would have instantly looked for another one.... Why was that shit even aloud...
This is why you never make live action movies based off of video games. Also even Handsome Jack would say this movie is terrible. Also they should've gotten the borderlands universe, characters , lore, and story right. Great job with the review Hellfire!
This comment is a little disjointed, as I was writing it while watching the video: "Someone left 30 minutes in" made me laugh. I am gonna guess that's more laughing than I would do watching this movie. Tiny Tina's parents were killed by Hyperion, this movie gets a 0/10 for lore inconsistencies this quickly. And it's looking like Tina is going to be the cause of the majority of the lore inconsistencies. Because they needed to shoehorn her into every fucking situation. Why is Caustic Caverns in this movie? This shitstorm takes place in BL1 times, Sanctuary isn't in the air. So Caustic Caverns isn't accessible. Unless this is implied to be like.... Between sanctuary and Bloodshot? Doesn't make sense that a dam would be connected to an ancient Dahl facility. I hate when trailers show the climax of the movie in the fucking trailer. Not going to lie though, the fakeout of them teasing Tina as this ultimate thing being able to open the vault and shit, only to shut that down. That pleases me, because I was certain they were gonna retcon Tina. I was expecting them to just shoehorn her to be this fucking not-siren siren. I'm sorry, WHAT? There's no fucking fight against the Destroyer? The is 0 fucking combat with a vault monster??? IN A FUCKING BORDERLANDS MOVIE!?

I’m 49 seconds in and not watching the rest, you didn’t say “what’s up and welcome to another video”
💀
Thanks for the honest review mate. I could really hear it in you voice, how much you wanted this movie to be good.
I swear they just do this shit on purpose to annoy the fans of the games, whether it be this movie or any other video game adaptation. It’s a slap in the face and a kick in the shins honestly.
Dude we knew it would suck, but *holy shit…*
Production process sounds like it was an absolute trainwreck. Definitely overspent on actors where they should have used the budget on visuals. But that plot ... damn. "Lilith is the siren" as the big plot twist ... hilariously bad.
The bare minimum (stick to the lore) they couldn't even do.
You know, I'm not even mad about it. I'm just sad bout Gearbox being so off from the feeling of their audience
18:55 Pitchford insisting on being front and centre is so spectacularly on brand
What was people expecting? Eli Roth has always been discount Temus' Tarantino.
It wasn't loud at my theater. I don't know why
Don't worry, i don't have any intention of seeing this piece of crap at any point in time, so spoilers don't matter
It really didn't help that Eli Roth wanted to make Star Wars, Mad Max, Barbarella, The Fifth Element, Escape From New York into one movie called Borderlands (without adding Borderlands) and Randy basically went 'Yeah, whatever, do what you want. I still get paid at the end of the day'
Motorhead are the best
I'd have to replace my brain with rocks to even come close to slightly liking it
Red Letter media has a interesting theory about it.
You missed the part where Roland and his friend were discussing in a bar, and they forgot to remove the body man spray from the scene.
I saw that on twitter lol, apparently it may have been a promotional bottle of borderlands spray that they are selling.
4:35 Named after the son of Prometheus. That actually fits with the nomenclature of the saga since a lot of it draws influence from Greek mythology. Also, it's pronounced "Duke Alien."
5:00 Of course, they went with his BL3 look.
13:10 [cue Civvie 11's "sewer count" meme]
14:23 They could have said that he was using an Absorb shield.
Heyyyy was waiting for this to drop
Is it bad that this movie somehow makes the story of borderlands 3 look good in comparison
They’re about equal but I got smiles during my first experience with bl3. Those ended relatively quickly but with this. My soul slowly lifted out of my body with my BL journey of the last 11 years and I watched it get beat over the head and made a mockery of for an hour and 40 minutes.
@@0fficalHellfire trust me I watched and reviewed the movie to…it’s a spit in the face to fans of this franchise
That 150 Million could have been used to fix issues with past games like the memory leak glitch in Borderlands for example, Or take some money to fix what's wrong with those games and save the remainder of cash to go towards BL4.
What was worse? New Tales or Borderlands the movie?
I didn’t have a reason to buy new tales. So I did not. I only went to see this for the review since I’ve been covering this film a lot on my channel. So since I’ve only viewed one in full.
Borderlands the movie by a country mile.
Eli Roth is so unbelievably out of touch thinking he can take a beloved franchise and just... do his own thing with it with no regard to any of the source material. its so stupidly arrogant and delusional
When it comes to writing stories in college, I was taught "first, write for yourself. that is your down-draft. Then revise it to write for close friends, and then revise and write for an audience."
Clearly, Eli never got past phase ; "Write for yourself"
i would have atleast thought the movie had a coherent plot and everyone was just nitpicking cuz of the casting choices, but to find out that there is literally a non-existent plot surprises me
I love how the vault gives lilith a nickname that raiders gave her in hiding.
it's so funny see randy go off on twitter, bro's like "um so what *specifically* did you not like about the movie", "what was your favorite part of the movie" and the best ones are all his paul tassi ones
Yo that's not moxxi... That's not moxxi.
idk about that; i think she was done well; that lady is 62 but she looks fucking great
@@nickm5419my biggest issue with moxxi was her accent when in the games she deliberately hides it to not sound like a hick
@@SasamiTMuntil she gets really mad if I remember correctly :3
I think we see her mad enough to get a bit hick a few times
Yeah, I don't plan on watching this. The unforgivable fumbling of Caustic Caverns made me cackle, I can't even lie lmao.
Oh wowww…. I’m not shocked and I do remembered hammerlock & wainwright being cast. Do you have a link to an article by chance
@@0fficalHellfire also Ellie and Scooter weren't cut entirely... they just have a 1 second blink and you'll miss it cameo.
@@0fficalHellfire Woah, did my link reply just get deleted? I don't see it. Do you have a discord where I can send it?
@@0fficalHellfire hey man I can't send the link bc it deleted my comment that had the link in it
I’ve seen a lot of “should have been animated” comments, but they totally could have done a Scott Pilgrim thing where they make it more over the top and pair animations with live action.
I appreciate the good work on your videos, fyi. Been subbed for awhile.
❤️❤️❤️
Man… I’ve seen so much bad stuff that I haven’t even been bothered to even go and see the movie.
When it comes available to buy I may get it and watch it but even then, is it worth it?
Na. If you’re a die hard BL fan and you have to see it, just wait for it to be on streaming services
So basically it's a: "The Willy Wonka's Borderlands Experience"
Essentially yes
Bro hellfire. Have you seen randy pitchford blocking everyone on Twitter. EVEN KILLER SIX. what is he's doinngggg!
The guy who plays Marcus also voices Dutch Van Derlin from Red Dead Redemption
This is the first movie I felt true rage for, first why was marcus not narrating and they say that the eridens had gods when there us no prof of that, they were a race fuled by science and oh my don't get me started on the story
If they turned BL3 into a movie that would’ve been plausible. The villains are very Bowser like. Characters from BL1 and 2 are weaved into 3. they would’ve had the new and old cast to work with.
I hope this Movie is a wake up call for Gearbox, but knowing Randy, it's probably not.
I like this video because the reviewer actually knows what he's talking about and has a good amount of knowledge on the game series. While a lot of other reviews only have a surface level knowledge about the series
Appreciate that, have been playing for close to 15 years at this point. Had also been covering the movie pre-release in 5 or 6 other videos here on the channel. so I was pretty well equipped to review it. Regardless, i appreciate the compliments man ❤️
My desire to ever see a Metroid movie made someday just went straight down the toilet.
The last thing I was expecting was Motorhead. That's actually good that it wasn't wasted on a bad scene, Lemmy would probably roll in his grave.
No doubt, that was easily my favorite action scene of the film!
Rip Lemmy 🪦
@@0fficalHellfire the credits/Trailer theme for Borderlands:the Movie should have been Never Surrender by Stan Bush (Kickboxer 1988 Van Damme soundtrack) (the touch - Transformers 1986) its a shitty camp saturday morning cartoon Gi Joe 80's PSA interpretation of Borderlands. needs a 80s throwback song.
Thanks for being a bit more in depth than other reviews ive seen, man this shit is a disaster and randy pitchford crying about it on twitter aint helping. This movie really is just helping destroy what little reputation borderlands has left ☠️
They always pretend they are targeting the modern audience, like we are all stupid and think we need to get aboard an empty bus because they say so.
Who was this movie made for? Eli Roth
Him and his gilf fetish
Randy Pitchford must be raging and seething.
No doubt. Has been for days
I wondered when your review was coming. I'm kinda glad all things considered it was just as bad as imagined, if it had been just bad, I'd have felt cheated. Maybe it will underline just how bad things have got.
it's like they're aware and jealous of the fact that they can't create anything new, only corrupt what already exists.
This comment is a little disjointed, as I was writing it while watching the video:
"Someone left 30 minutes in" made me laugh.
Aye thanks for the feature! W video
I refuse to watch anything with a character who has goggles on their f***ing head. So damn cringe.
23 seconds in, this is already a masterpiece
Benjamin byron davis was marcus he also is one of the best actors in red dead redemption 2 he was phenomenal as dutch n i had a feeling hed be a great marcus probably the best casting choice
Yessir, cool to see another video game character in this but sad he didn’t get more to do. I also really enjoyed him on read dead 2
