What an incredible show! So rare to find good footage of a mid 90's Seaweed concert.

When Spanaway came out i was one of the first people in my neighborhood, hell maybe all of Philadelphia for that matter that was blown away and I bothered my local DJ's to constantly give it more airplay. Seaweed is thee one band that I always felt had gotten screwed badly by the industry. Great band ignored by the mainstream garbage outlets.

The early-mid 90s must have both been great but also hell for a lot of these bands. Nirvana kind of broke the zeitgeist so all these big labels panicked to sign a ton of alternative acts, not knowing how to promote them, or understand what they were about. There was (still is, technically) a band called Sloan from where I'm from, they released their 1992 debut indie and Geffen Records threw money at them, billing them as the "Canadian Nirvana" where local outlets billed them as the "Canadian Beatles". You can tell Geffen got pissed when the realized they weren't a "grunge" band and fucked them off and signed Weezer to replace them lmao. Sloan is still an incredible power-pop band.

@@calvinbaII it was Calvin? So many really good bands competing against Juggernauts like Nirvana, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam but there were many? Seaweed was one of them along with Mother Love Bone, Blind Melon, AIC? We would go to the Lollapolooza concerts and they had 2 stages. Main and secondary. Secondary were upcoming, not popular bands like The Flaming Lips, Hole, NIN. Some broke out to the mainstream, alot never did.

Saw them on this tour in Cleveland. Remember their Jawa t-shirt they were throwing out from stage.
Was also supposed to see Sublime; bought their shirt, then looked at the set list times and Sublime wasn’t listed. Ran into Tony Sly from NUFAN, walking around and asked him why Sublime wasn’t playing and he said, “They got kicked off the tour because they were partying too hard.”

Thanks so much for this. When I was doing research on the history of Emo back in college around 2005 or so Seaweed were mentioned as being sorta an early influence. They were so good

Walter in the background looking like he can't wait for his kids band to get done playing at the local community center
