Lupe, may she rest in peace, was very good at having to be bad in this film. After 10 times watching the movie, friends and I began to find humor in some of her lines. Trying to glean some small crumb of positive from something so heinous. Lupe’s accent in this role, as well as, her facial expressions were priceless. And consequently comical. The egg ring scene is a fine example, when she tricks the other ladies into letting her choose their appreciation present to Selena. Her face when they’re talking is hilarious and we can see the wheels turning in her head at what she’ll do with the present.
Them picking Jennifer Lopez for this role was absolutely perfect. I thought she portrayed Selena so well in this movie. The new series on Netflix though is a different story in my opinion.
Chris Perez wrote a book called "To Selena, With Love", he said Yolanda was so creepy that she had a shrine in her apt dedicated to Selena. When Yolanda's room mate discovered it she moved out and I'm thinking, "You didn't report this to the police or the Quintanillas because?" Yolanda preyed on Selena and Abraham knew it from the beginning. Yes, Abraham ruled with an ironing fist but he meant well, and this toxicity is exactly what he tried to protect his family from. It was said that Yolanda was making more as a nurse than what her checks were looking like from The Quintanillas. Selena was warned numerous times by family, friends, workers etc... about Yolanda's behaviour and obsession. After a while the rest of the family started seeing Yolanda for what she was. She even tried to break Chris and Selena up by lying on Chris, but Selena trusted Chris and when that didn't work Yolanda started ruining her clothes deliberately. She took her life to get back at Abraham because he was getting ready to get the police involved and with that ran away for sometime then showed up at the hotel with the gun and trapped Selena. Chris saved her life on March 30th but we all know what happened the next. So sad because she died on my 2nd bday😔

Lupe, may she rest in peace, was very good at having to be bad in this film. After 10 times watching the movie, friends and I began to find humor in some of her lines. Trying to glean some small crumb of positive from something so heinous. Lupe’s accent in this role, as well as, her facial expressions were priceless. And consequently comical. The egg ring scene is a fine example, when she tricks the other ladies into letting her choose their appreciation present to Selena. Her face when they’re talking is hilarious and we can see the wheels turning in her head at what she’ll do with the present.
Them picking Jennifer Lopez for this role was absolutely perfect. I thought she portrayed Selena so well in this movie. The new series on Netflix though is a different story in my opinion.

Yolanda was never fond of Selena, and was mad at the recognition Selena was receiving. She wasn't even in her prime yet blowing up big time, everything around her was happening soo fast. Yolanda preyed on Selena and Abraham knew it from the beginning. Yes, Abraham ruled with an ironing fist but he meant well, and this toxicity is exactly what he tried to protect his family from. It was said that Yolanda was making more as a nurse than what her checks were looking like from The Quintanillas. Selena was warned numerous times by family, friends, workers etc... about Yolanda's behaviour and obsession. After a while the rest of the family started seeing Yolanda for what she was. She even tried to break Chris and Selena up by lying on Chris, but Selena trusted Chris and when that didn't work Yolanda started ruining her clothes deliberately. She took her life to get back at Abraham because he was getting ready to get the police involved and with that ran away for sometime then showed up at the hotel with the gun and trapped Selena. Chris saved her life on March 30th but we all know what happened the next. So sad because she died on my 2nd bday😔

My family is Mexican/Colombian and I remember back in the days when Mexican-women dressed like this. They would wear lipstick like that, a sports bra, and some baggy pants. My mom used to wear that too. And, my mom looked like Selena because she had curly Afro-looking hair.

jennifer really did an outstanding job studying selena. she spent every second she had watching videos of selena and trying to capture her essence as best as she could. i used to watch this movie all the time when i was younger, with my uncle. he passed away and so every year, on the date of his death, as well as Selena’s, i watch this movie. and every single time i watch it, i get mad that none of the people in the crew of this movie won a proper award for it. ESPECIALLY jennifer smh.
