I wasn’t sure I would like it. But when Michael C Hall’s voiceover and appearance showing he is alive appeared, I was excited and gave the show a chance because of him. A couple of episodes in, I warmed up to Patrick’s younger version of Dexter. I think he does an amazing job considering he has big shoes to fill. All characters are doing well and I would love to see more seasons of young Dexter. Love getting the back story. But, I agree with some that Michael’s involvement is what made me want to keep watching. There’s no Dexter without Michael involved in some way.
Maybe but I do think Dexter is also just a cash cow. Michael’s seal of approval is good but he also signed off on the new blood ending. I do think it helps though that the show is actually pretty good
The show is bad bro we just wish they would fix what everyone wanted but they did different things because they thought we would hate it, and we all know there is still redemption so that's why we are all here
That’s true, it’s definitely the best and probably the more obvious one but that makes for a difficult title, I more or less mean that good prequels are the exception not the rule and this definitely beat the odds of being a bad prequel
I think Patrick does a great job. Older Dexter could intentionally maintain eye contact while the younger, more awkward version still has not mastered the manipulation that Dexter uses to 'be normal'. Just my thoughts 🤷
Ya I think the nuances of the performance make it work I like how it’s not just an impersonation but a believable precursor to what dexter would eventually be
In a weird way, Original Sin really feels like Harry’s show. It really changed how I viewed Harry honestly. I think that’s one of the main thing that makes it good
That’s one of the things I really enjoy about the show. Harry and Dexter’s dynamic is great and I feel like we’re actually getting definition to Harry’s character instead of adult Dexter’s idealized version
That’s true, it’s definitely the best and probably the more obvious one but that makes for a difficult title, I more or less mean that good prequels are the exception not the rule and this definitely beat the odds of being a bad prequel
This is leading directly into Dexter Resurrection and began and will end where that story picks up. I'm confident that this is a single season miniseries.
@@NeelTheSphynx Exactly. This show is his life flashing before his eyes. How could they possibly continue it after he wakes up at the end of this season?!
I really appreciate that in original sin we see how Dexter is way worse at blending in, no more than when he first meets Deb's and tells him "nice teeth" 😂
That was hilarious, Dexter had some funny awkward moments in the original show but seeing him figure out how to blend in is comedy gold in this prequel
I would love to see a few more series with this cast, been very impressed. Molly Brown is great as Deb, and I was very surprised how good Christina Milian is as LaGuerta from the moment she walked on screen.
@gmlighthorror completely agree, I can't help but smile when she's 'Deb-ing', especially when it's her and Dex playing off each other. Clearly did their homework.
I didn't hear about original sin untill about a week or two before the first episode was put up on paramount+. When i did hear about it im not gonna lie i was extremely skeptical about the casting specifically but honestly i LOVE it. They did an amazing job casting. I think its really great.
That’s how I feel, I was a bit cynical and felt they only announced it because New Blood shattered ratings records but it really surprised me and blew past expectations
Really enjoying original sin so far but i’m curious to see what the point is obviously money purposes some new lore and just new dexter media in genral but for story purposes what is he gonna take away from original sin that will show up in resurrection? you know what i mean he’s looking back in time for a reason right ? i wonder what they will carry over into resurrection
I hope that’s the case but I honestly could see it just being a look in the past for monetary purposes and it just happened to be good and worked out. I will say though showing Dexter being revived at the beginning makes me think they’re setting that up
I was in my first Dexter rewatch since the last season aired when the prequel was announced last year. I knew it would be great when they soon after announced the cast.
Original Sin has surprised me thus far. I went in with pretty low expectations, but the shows actually not too bad. I’m definitely interested in where they take Resurrection though.
I went into Original Sin with low expectations and I have to say I'm somewhat blown away by how good it actually is. The casting is great even down to the minor characters like Batista, Laguerta and Masuka. The writing is pretty good and the storytelling is good too with Michael C. Hall's narrative tying it all together.
I wish they could continue this series and give it a diff ending like Dex getting caught or killed in the end instead just being a normal prequel but I know it'll be a risky and hard move for them to pull off cause the multiverse don't exist in this genre lol but still it'll be much fun and creative if we see a different faith of dexter cause the prequel is already too much of a safe approach stating that he won't fail ever.
Honestly I’m one of those who wants a happy ending for Dexter, just turning normal, no killing and living the rest of his life, in the original show i never understood why writers didn’t let him go to argentina with hannah and harrison, it was easier than killing deb and making him fake his own death
They’re making another show so you might get what you want, it’s called Dexter Resurrection. They just started shooting it and we’ll probably get it this year
@@GalecmanI understand that but I think they want Dexter to face the consequences for his years of killing. I want his past to catch up with him in Resurrections but I can’t help but hope he gets away with it
I’d be very interested in that actually, he’s a cool character and I’d be down for a show seeing his different cases and different serial killers he investigates.
Can anyone tell me why, after Clyde Phillips painted the franchise into a corner by prematurely 'killing' Dexter, he was given the reins for not only Original Sin and Resurrection? It seems like they would want a fresh showrunner.
I get that but at the same time they brought him in initially to finish Dexter’s story and he was the showrunner during Dexter’s best years with seasons 1-4
The only thing I don't like is the Batista character doesn't do anything... He's just background noise. The OG Dexter always had a fleshed out Batista character.
My only problem with Original Sin is that the show feels unfocused in so many areas. Sometimes it focuses on Dexter and the show is showing its strength. Patrick Gibson’s performance and the writers are locked in, when he is showing aggression and has killers on his chopping block. I feel like everything outside of these moments suffers from various things. Most of the subplots are uninteresting, some are poorly written, and others seem to scared to dive deeper out of fear of taking too much time away from Dexter. That’s the show’s biggest problem “Time”. A lot of elements feel like quick spark Note/cliff notes of what the writers need to tell us rather than flushing out and showing us. Which I think is due to them stuffing the season, out of the potential of the show not getting renewed or gaining popularity. They decided to show all of their cards. Throw everything at the wall and see if it sticks. In the end, it leaves me feeling a bit awkward with the show. I like the stuff that adds to the narrative of the original show. Like how Dexter formulates his ritual and abilities to be an effective killer, or him learning to be a social butterfly at his new job. Showing Deb’s youthful vulnerabilities and why she is so hinged to Dexter from the start; For example, the long night weed binge where some of the barriers are broken down between them or him protecting her from the assault at the party. It’s the stuff that has value and merit to put on screen that keeps me watching, but I do recognize some of the pitfalls the show is falling into as well.
I get what you mean with your criticism. I’m really enjoying the show but I kind of agree I don’t know what its end in sight is or what its leading to beyond just leg work to set up Dexter’s character. I kind of feel this in the freak of the week nature of the show and I kind of feel like maybe they just end the season with Harry dying
Yes and no. It can stand on its own, however. I recommend watching all seasons of Dexter first then Dexter New Blood to be able to understand it more. Believe me. You won’t be disappointed.
They knew what they were doing and they knew he wasnt dead at the end of new blood. Hell i knew that. It was set perfet. If dexter managed to kill the sheriff before the cops come. He can blame it on whatever that killers guy name is and they will think he is on the run. A few might have suspiciosions but enough is open to benefit dexter regardless. All intenional. All well thought out
That’s an interesting take, I kind of took it at face value when they came out with it and took it as the end of the character but they definitely left room to continue. I’m also so glad we’ll finally get Batista confronting Dexter
I love everything they’re doing with original sin and looking forward to resurrection. I hope it becomes another eight season :-) speaking of reboot it would be awesome if they did a reboot and follow the books. Spoiler alert! Deb never dies, Brian and Rita don’t die till the end, another 8 season’s. It’s a win-win.
tbh i also think that the franchise should have ended. the ending of new blood was movie perfection and i don’t know why it’s so disliked. i thought it was one of the top endings ive seen. i would also love a Harrison series
Actually im not sure if you know they where thinking about redoing Dexter but instead of being a froncenscic anylazist he was going to be a doctor... In the reboot
@ nothing is gonna match early dexter it’s really that simple. It’s just void of any artistic touch, it’s cool that we get to see dexters back story that’s about it. Look at season 1s cinematography compared to the rest of the show, night and day
Ya lol a bit, I do think it’s deserved though. It’s definitely not close to the best seasons of the original run but I do think it’s much better than I expected and captures some of the energy of the early days
I made a video with my thought and was a bit skeptical despite still being excited. Original Sin being good definitely gives me more faith and I’m never going to say no to more Dexter. I’m hoping to get my updated thoughts on it out soon
That’s kind of true but we’ve still seen 60% of it and I think at this point it’s safe to say the cast works, it captures the vibe of the old show and it has good story direction. It may drop the ball but I feel like that wouldn’t negate the quality of the first 2/3 and it still definitely beat expectations
@gmlighthorror I remember New Blood, I loved all of it, and so did the majority of the fanbase, then in a single episode everyone said it was shit all the while..
Hahha definitely not but at the time my mentality was Hall’s Dexter was dead and not coming back and they were going to do a prequel with a new actor anyway

@@gmlighthorror I agree
I'd argue if dexter wasn't alive or Michael c hall not narrating original sin it would have definitely flopped
