That's my dad Jim DeHart climbing into his Hun at Tuy Hoa RVN...circa 66,67. 308th TFW. He died when I was a kid. Nice to be able to show my son James his Grandfather. Thanks for posting.
Nope. Survived flying fighters to die in base Hospital back in the states Very unexpected. Couple days before his 37th birthday. Oh meant to say 308th TFS, 31st fighter wing. Ther still around flying F-16s at Luke.
In 1969 we were cruising off the coast of Da Nang, Republic of South Vietnam. We had just finished helo and amphibious ops with elements of the 1st Marine Division. At about 18:00 an F-100 jockey made a mast high pass of our ship. He approached from the stern and as he passed he stood up on his tail and hit the after burners. Damn what a sight and sound. Marines and sailors scrambled for cover. Still laugh about it 44 years later. Wish I could meet that jockey.
First time I've seen this too. Would've loved to do what those guys did, 45 degree dive, uncontrolled rockets, bragging at the club that you meant to hit that open field.
the only video I've seem of my grampa is those first 5 seconds of this video... (my grandma just showed me this with some pictures I could't believe it haha)
That dude sounds like some Russians i know on UA-cam. "The Su-37 won in all the real life dogfights against the F-22." Forgot the fact that they only have like 5 of them i didnt even know the F-22 went to Russia and had a dogfight against it. The Raptor must be doing alot of travelling secretly...

I was at Phu Cat with the 355th and moved all planes and equipment to Tuy Hoa.
Also known as the lead sled by us crew chiefs, it dropped 12 feet for every foot forward on flame out.

There are few F-100Fs in private ownership and they fly certain airshows.

This is are beautiful democracy peddler!
Even worse there's only two, and one of them crashed.
"supersonic for an extended period of time" , ??? wouldn't that be a fuel guzzler i don't think that was in the design
What do you mean, not a success? You're kind of vague with "all the tests." Can you be more specific? What "tests" are you talking about?
