“They got better! How the eff did they get better?” That was probably my favorite moment. The song was written by the fabulous and legendary Diane Warren. Cher sang it initially, but it was apparently not released on its own and used only for a documentary. So, as they do, PTX has made it their own. Hugs - Kirstie will pull you in and put your head on her shoulder while she pats your back reassuringly. Matt swallows you in a bear hug and then swings you around until you feel better (or sick). In my opinion, obviously. Scott - I forget if you’ve heard his solo Mars yet. If not, please do, either the music video or the live choir version. And now I will shut up, peace to you and yours … Forgot to say, I LOVED your reaction.

Most Pentaholics ran out of words to describe what they do a long time ago. Amazing, unbelievable, awesome, just don't describe what they do and haven't for a long time.
There may not be words in any language that describe them anymore.
I am just glad I am lucky enough to live in a time where I can listen to such beauty.

There can be only ONE Queen Valkyrie and that is FLOOR.
I just love Scott's voice. It hits right into your soul.
My ultimate dream would be to see Superfruit and Floor singing together...

This was written by Diane Warren and it was performed in 2018 in a documentary about the war in Syria. I believe it was performed by Cher with a children's choir. However, it was never published as a single for distribution. Diane Warren worked with PTX and John Baptiste for a single "Sweet". She gave this to PTX to release.

This is undeniably a scott song, but I love again how p t x is a master at strategic placement of voices. For example Mitch. Out of everyone on their roster Mitch has the most ability to draw the audience in emotionally, both because of the uniqueness of his voice and his power and just by some magical ability of his. You also add in his perfect pronunciation. there's a lot of people who have said that they didn't even know the words to a song that they had heard so many times before until they heard mitch sing it. So if they want their message to be heard, they make sure that Mitch will sing it at some point. so what they do is clear back to Hallelujah is drop everybody out and leaving only mitch's pure voice to be heard and that has been done here as well. Very strategic and very smart.

They are better than we deserve. They seem to have the ability to release songs that the world really needs to hear. Some songs that I think fall in that category are That’s Christmas to Me, Sing, Imagine, Amazing Grace, Mad World, Thank You, The Prayer, and now Prayers for This World. We need to keep making Pentaholics so people can hear the beautiful messages that they regularly put out.

This is kind of one of their own. Diane Warren wrote this song for Cher but it was never used. Then Diane & Kevin rewrote this specifically for Pentatonix. It is truly amazing. And yes they are a lot more mature in their music, This video was done not to long after Kirstie became a mommy. Great reaction.

I must agree with your choice of 'maturity' as a definition of their work in this song. As others have said, I think it is perhaps a result of the changes in their individual lives. Since 2019, there have been two weddings, two engagements and two babies.
Thank you for such a thoughtful reaction.

Yes, PTX has grown up , and so has their music. I think this cover was inspired by the events going on in today's world at least partly, but the group has also started getting married and having kids, things that make you more conscious of the world around you. You want to know that your loved ones are safe and secure. This world we live in is neither safe nor secure, and we need prayers for this world. I think this song is very timely, and I fully expect it to be nominated for a Grammy next year. I loved your reaction. I am praying for your struggles with depression. I know how hard it can be. God bless, and keep the PTX videos coming.😊

They are a breath of fresh air when they ain't stealing it from you in their awesomeness! They are workaholics that love what they do and their fans. It's amazing what people can do when they create and group together. I love everything this band does, and I used to hate Christmas music because of working in retail, colleges, etc. I love all their music as a band or their solos, duos, musical theater, etc. Yes side projects they do while also being a full-time band with multi albums, recordings, plus touring all over the world and the USA. Workaholics I tell you! Lol! Some of my favorites at the moment is their lucky ones album, their pop album with attention, new rules x are you that somebody, Havana, Despacito x Shape of You, issues, perfect, etc. I love their originals and their covers (upgrades!)! Mad world is another soul reaching one if you want.

This is my first time hearing this as well. I think they “got better” because they inject so much of themselves into each song. Each song is a new adventure. Each one the “best ever,” but as you remember/relive each, that is the best ever. Loving this from you.

You describe it all so well. And yes, they placed those "hugs" very intentionally, I think. My favourite "Matt hug" parts are his part in their original "Love me when I don't" and their cover (without a music video) of "When you wish upon a star"..
This song is... an original.. kind of... It's not written by them, it was performed once by Cher but never officially recorded by her so "legally" and in music speak it's Pentatonix original, but to us in the real world I'd call it Original* haha

Probably the best reaction I’ve seen to this song! They have definitely matured and I think this meant more to them now then it would have before they started having kids. They are more passionate about wanting the world to be a better place for their children. I love everything about this song and video, I can’t believe it didn’t get more attention, it’s so very relevant.

Such a wonderful reaction. That is the thing about PTX. Just when you think they can't get even better, they step it up yet again. If you want to see Scott at his pinnacle (so far), please react to his recent original song Mars. Written by Scott and one of the most beautiful songs I think I have ever heard. There are a few versions of it. The first is an official music video (also produced by Scott) that has stunning visuals like a movie that go with his amazing vocals. As good as that one is there is another official music video called the choir version that is just sublime with Scott and a choir and a piano. Scott's vocals will melt your brain cells! It is sooo good! Scott went on a song writing binge during the pandemic. I think he said he wrote a song a day. This is his first solo release since PTX was formed. He promises more to come and I can't wait to see where his amazing talent takes him. He is also in the deep with writing a Broadway musical . . .his future is so bright!

This is from their 2022 Christmas album, _Holidays Around The World._
It makes you feel depressed because it acknowledges that the world is in the middle of an existential crisis; we may not survive. Pentatonix's homes are in California. Think of the wild fires California has been experiencing, with growing frequency and intensity over the past few years - I'm sure they were thinking of those when they made this. And think of the war in Ukraine, with Putin repeatedly warning that he may exercise the nuclear option if he doesn't get what he wants. Yes, that was happening back when they made this, and it's still happening; thank goodness it hasn't actually escalated to nuclear war in the mean time.
Kirstie had a baby last year; little Elliana Violet is growing up in a world of climate crisis and potential nuclear war. Kevin also has a daughter. Scott is engaged to be married, and he and Mark hope to have children as well.
Pentatonix has always cared about the young and the helpless, the only things that have changed are that now some of those young, helpless people they care about are ones they created themselves, and the fact that we're extremely close to wiping out life on this planet. And if that makes you feel more depressed, I'm sorry, but it's what this song is about.
On to the music. "Prayers For This World" was written by Diane Warren. The theme of _Holidays Around The World_ was collaborations with other artists from around the world. But because of COVID travel restrictions most of those collaborations had to happen from a distance. And most of the artists they collaborated with either incorporate instruments in their music or are, in fact, orchestras. "Prayers For This World" seems to have been a collaboration with a string orchestra. You can find details at genius.com/Pentatonix-prayers-for-this-world-lyrics by clicking on "About" and then expanding "Credits."
But because those artists couldn't be present for the making of the official video this violates the rule of thumb that if Pentatonix uses instruments in a song you'll actually be able to see the instruments. That rule does not apply to any song on _Holidays Around The World._
How does Pentatonix get better? I don't even know how they got as good as they already are. I do know, however, that much as we might want to think they're from another planet they are fully human. And if you're human and you aren't growing then you're dying. Pentatonix are determined to live.
The reason you have trouble sorting out the bass line is that Matt is quieter than Avi. When Matt isn't the soloist he's singing with only the volume necessary to provide the bass harmony and to round out Kevin's percussion. When Avi began singing you knew it immediately - it didn't matter what the soloist was doing, you'd go "Oh, Avi!" and practically swoon. Matt doesn't do that. It actually makes him a better singer than Avi (IMO) for an ensemble band like Pentatonix because it supports the entire group. When Pentatonix was starting out they needed that superstar vibe from Avi to draw people in, but now they're all superstars and they need more of a team player, like Matt. I'm glad they found him.

This isn't an original, although they have added Matt's verse and changed a bit of the arrangement. It was written by the great Diane Warren, songwriter for the stars. She wrote it for Cher to sing for a documentary...Cries From Syria which was ultimately not released. Cher did record it along with a children's choir. There's a lyric video on UA-cam somewhere.
There is a Behind The Scenes video for this that's worth watching for how they did some of the effects like the watery images of the group.
It's a really powerful, but hopeful song...and so well put together to give you that feeling that although things may seem terrible and awful and hopeless, there is the knowing that love CAN change everything for the better.

    • @kimmyf1054
      @kimmyf1054 Рік тому +1

This song is very interesting when trying to decide if it's an original or not. A while back I messaged their arranger Ben Bram to ask about this song and his response was this:
"it’s written by diane warren but it’s an original in the sense that this will be the original version"
He also said: "it’s not a cover of an existing song".
So in layman's terms, this song was given to PTX by Diane Warren in which they changed it around slightly to make it THEIR original version

I see it kind of like Sound of Silence. Simon and Garfunkel gave us a well timed warning, Disturbed show us what could happen, then Pentatonix give us Hope.

Oh no, this channel is my medicine. It was work and finances that caused the issues. I’ve been working on getting better for a few months now and the channel is my passion, my joy :)

Please please please react to Scott’s solo song Mars! I’d do the official video first and then the live choir version. Both amazing

That is a major source of confusion for me. How can I go back and hear the perfection of their their earliest recordings, and also see that they are better than ever, now? How can they be better than perfect? I agree it's maturity, and confidence, but it still throws me, lol.

My "helping with mental health" song from them (on kind of the opposite end of the song spectrum) is from that same album. "Love me when I don't"

As a fellow depression fighter, you might want to try a side project from Pentatonix called SuperFruit. Scott and Mitch are still serious artists, but they are funny too. Try "How You Feeling?". It's relatable.
