Honestly I think people understand it but a lot of the males in specific that watch it don’t address the meaning since they feel uncomfortable when they realize they have that power, or maybe even took advantage of it. But yeah his reaction was probably one of the best ones I appreciate how he actually addressed the lyrics
Billie always puts 20 seconds of blank/darkness at the end of her videos..so that those stupid suggested video boxes don’t pop up blocking the ends of her videos
But she put it 22 seconds in this video. And her abuser que which is a male rapper who is 22 years old and dated Billie when she was 16. So it can be a reference
@@pineapplemacron9182 possibly..but this blank dark screen has been there for pretty much all her videos at the end..at least the videos that she’s directed I believe. It’s nothing new.
unfortunately she is speaking from experience as well as too anyone who also have gone through a similar thing. she was with a 22 year old man when she was 16 & she explained the relationship to be very emotionally & mentally abusive.
love how quick you were to get the meaning of the song. "she was sleeping in your clothes, but now she's got to get to class, how dare you? and how could you? will you only feel bad when they find out?" such haunting lines yet many people didnt pick up on it. edit: also just my opinion but i believe the breath at the end was to signify the snake finally suffocating her all the way
I think she's talking partly about her own experience as a minor (see her recent documentary on Apple TV) and also applying it in a general sense to other scenarios. Thanks!
A few things that might explain the video and the lyrics better, 1. Imagery: The snake, representing evil, and the constriction on her that seemed suffocating, are all representing the abusive relationship she had. 2. Psychology: Victims of child abuse are groomed by the abuser to make them feel shame and guilt. It's a manipulation tactic that ultimately leads to the victim feeling responsible for the abuse, when in reality is the abuser who takes advantage of the minor. This is why sometimes you hear victims of sexual abuse defending their abuser. 3. Dissociation: When you hear her talking in the 3rd person and later in the 1st, is often a defense mechanism. It's difficult to come to terms with the idea that someone took advantage of your need for love, and for this reason, it's easier to talk about it as something detached and impersonal. Extreme feelings of shame and worthlessness usually invade the victim's mind, which later generate other psychological issues.
You speak truth. On 3, also (as someone with trauma) it's easier to be mad on behalf of someone else who is mistreated, and so it's easier to be mad on behalf of that person who was/is me than to be mad for myself. (To be fair I'm also quite dissociated, but I've found this to be true.)
Totally agree not everybody is getting inside the lyrics and the real meaning of the song, I understand that it can be difficult to interpretate it the first time you listen it but you did a great job
I think when she says “try not to abuse your power” shes talking about when you’re in a relationship and you’re in love. Your partner has some level of power over your emotions, and they choose how they use that. So she’s saying to try not to abuse the power you have over someone who loves you. And I think the change in tense is an artistic thing where she’s expressing that this happened directly to her but that it’s also a tactic used by the person when they’re in relationships. For example “keep her in a cage” implying that he does this to every girl that loves him. Not just her. Just my take. And at the end, “power isn’t pain”. Power doesn’t have to equate to pain. You choose how you use the power that you have.
Lyrically Genius how it brings you in and holds you and makes you think you'll find 3 days from now you'll go back and hear it in different ways and go... Wow !
Having experienced something similar, I am pretty certain the reason why she is writing from a 3rd party perspective in some parts is because it is a lot safer mentally to speak that way.. judging the situation from that point of view protects yourself when you talk about it sometimes. This also could be parts her brother wrote as well and she is simply singing it. They spoke about it on Howard Stern.
hey there, just a comment: you were confused about her changing perspective - when she changes perspective she distances herself from herself, to gain a DISTANT perspective, it's like being in a car wreck and you see the ghost of the person stepping out of the car and looking at the wreck from THAT distant perspective; it is like a death ... hope it helped
Thank you so much for a great reaction and for getting the meaning so fast! As someone who was a victim as a minor, it means a lot to see your anger at these men and your comments on these abuses. It's good to see a man so p*d off at what happens and so sad for her/us all at the same time. Thank you! Mitch Grassi from Pentatonix has done a cover of this which you should check out too - again it's incredibly powerful.
wow that song hit differently.. When i was 13 my uncle started being around a lot, not having a father around he very fast became my male figure to look up to, well turned out he wasn't around for me but for my 14 year old best friend. he was bad news, spend time in prison regularly, an alcoholic and drug addict. i desperately tried to tell people around me that im worried about her spending so much time with him. in the end it ruined our friendship and she fell into addiction as well.. i really hope she just wrote this from the perspective of someone going through this and didn't have to live it herself
Woah, so sorry to hear that you went through something like that, and your friend too. That's messed up, hope you both are ok and inna better place now
Also just spot on take of the message here. I saw a lot of comments saying this was about a Weinstein type incident. Now, while that is touched on- this goes deeper about her own personal relationship with being groomed by an older man and taken advantage of. It is never ok for a man to be in a relationship an underage girl! That age gap is HUGE when you’re talking about levels of maturity and is not only an abuse of power....it’s statutory rape! This is such an important message because young girls think it’s ok and feel special when an older guy takes interest, not realizing how wrong it all is until the damage has been done.

She is talking about her experience, she was 16 and he was 22, and was used by him. She was really in love with him and he was just using her. She finally left 22 seconds of silence, 22, 22 seconds like the age of that boy.🤍
Yes! The lyrics are so powerful. This will help educate about the abuse of power of an adult sleeping with a minor. Speaking from experience- it’s not ok.

@3:36, Yes she is talking about her ex! And yes he apparently said he didn't know how old she was but they were together for awhile over a year! A lot of this album is about him. Brandon Adams..he goes by "Q"😂 He wasn't a good person to her at all either...even I believe to be abusive! Sad really! She said it isn’t but it actually is about her relationship with Q they started dating when she was 16 and he was 22 and this song describes her feelings in this relationship
I think her own intimate relationship with an adult while she was still a minor was traumatic, and as she has matured she has realized how she was taken advantage of (this is not uncommon). She wanted to spread awareness. Many men abuse their power with underage girls, whether through intimidation, promise of a better life, etc. and it’s sick as fuck and needs to stop. Time to call out the pedophilic behavior.
Heyy please react to TEARS OF GOLD (stripped) by Faouzia, this 20 yo young lady is best vocalist of our generation and her Moroccan background makes her music so unic
@4:35, I doubt she'd be trying to 'help' him. He was was possibly going to lose his contract..I believe is why he said he didn't know her age etc.. And yes THE ABUSE (of power) and abuse all the way around..she touched on that a little earlier about the contract...he seems to be a complete narcissist! He made her push her family n friends away, would do a lot of really shitty things to her it was bad all the way around! Idk if anyone has actually said it but I believe he physically n sexually abused her as well, like in NDA she says you hit me so hard, I saw stars, I saw stars...she touches on all that in parts of other songs on the album and talking about it now to some ppl. 💔
She says "her" and then refers to herself in first person to indicate that maybe he's done the same thing to other girls as well, that it's his Modus Operandi?
Hii here is my opinion I think your power means being too humble she is adviseing someone one to not abuse you power for that guy like in the next line "I know we didn't choose to change" it means she is telling another girl like I know we didn't choose to change but you have to because he is toxic. Hit like if you agree 👍
when she shifts from 1st person to 3rd it could be disassociation as lots of victims of sexual abuse disassociate in the aftermath. It could also be how it is not rare that this happens just that it gets found out is rare so it could be she is saying it happens to herself and others because that is the reality. There is also this feeling of deep sadness in women how they go through this sexual abuse for the man's pleasure and then because of the man's power to get away with it there is no justice or even sort of closure at an emotional level for the female. I think this idea of change is also about how we are only now starting to stand up to it and how the only power the female victim has is to stand up to it but to no avail because it is a taboo subject and the victim blaming culture we have means that standing up to this power that they have to commit this act and instead of going to prison they just lose their fame, wealth, platform or reputation and the woman can never do right. She allows it to happen and doesn't speak up and that makes other women vulnerable but yet the message at the same time is if you speak up nothing gets done and you are blamed for ruining this man's life who has more power to manipulate because of his position in society and the power we as a society give that position. Though simple lyrics I do think the meaning is a lot deeper than it appears.
@6:45,@H, So basically her 'first' love was a narcissistic psychopath! I feel for her like a little sister in a lot of ways but I truly wish this wasn't something she had in common with ME!😞😰😳😥💔💔🙏 I was almost killed by someone like THAT!, And now have no teeth as well! It's changed who I am and I'm embarrassed to even be seen in public and when ppl do see that I have no teeth automatically judge me as if I am a drug addict when I've never touched anything like that in my LIFE! I wish they could SEE the rest of the damage he did like the fluid in my brain for instance! I'm an only parent so I don't have the money to get my teeth or I would have a long time ago! My insurance doesn't pay anything for semi or permanent teeth and I can't wear dentures because of a condition fr it so I can't even eat right or eat hardly anything!😭💔🙏👼💀💀💀 I know she's gotten help with going to therapy n stuff which is great I'm truly proud of her! @7:18, @H, THANK YOU!!! NO it's not okay, EVER! But yes that's exactly how it is, they'll only care if it's going to hurt them, especially in their wallets! Narcissists only care about themselves..
Crappy voice has no abilities most overrated performer ever in music industry ,no one of these reactors like her voice they only want the views from those troubled fan girls.

React to White Dress by Lana Del Rey

I LOVE her voice! 😁 And no, her voice is not crappy, she's amazing live and has great songs. Just because you don't like her doesn't mean she sucks.
