It really is a defence mechanism just so that I don't get overwhelmed with emotion ! If you want to get to know me a little better I posted a video the other day which I will link down below ...

Isn't that the purpose of art, especially music? To express our unexpressed (or repressed) feelings. Good or bad, those are only feelings, our feelings. We own them, we get to feel them, heal from them. Good for you. Great reaction.

When she was 16 she was dating an "up and coming" rapper that was 22. That's why there is 22 silent seconds after the video. But she doesn't want the song to be all about her as it happens all the time and everywhere in the world.

    • @FernStone

I read this after listening to the song actually , it’s crazy how much of an effect being with an older person can do to you when you are underage ... you don’t even know it at the time . But when you realise it was wrong , it really messes you up ! I’m so glad she sang about it and left if open for everyone while also expressing her own hurt 🥺💕 that’s really cool about the 22 seconds at the end ! I didn’t know that .

Thank you , I truly appreciate that . Luckily , I’ve been able to be strong and speak my story for some time. It still feels weird to tell people ( new people ), but in many ways , it’s who I am . It happened for so long and I have many metal scars that I carry . It’s better that I be open about it , own it and hopefully encourage others to be brave . As you can see in this video , It’s still very hard to say but I felt so much better for doing so. I truly appreciate you commenting and watching 💕💕

I am so sorry that happened to you. But I am really proud of you for being so brave. It is important to tell your story to remove the stigmas. It's a common problem, so it needs to be a common topic. And don't worry about your reaction, I have stuff too and react with the same kind of detachment when confronted with it. There are no wrong emotions. Lots of love, Fern.

Thanks for being so open. Your words have strength in them. It's funny the reason I found Aurora is because of an interview with Billie saying she knew she wanted to perform her music after hearing Aurora Runaway, I think. What is it with that generation? Just talent.

If you like older music and Lana Del Ray Billie Eilish is going to be right up your alley. Her lyrics are deep and very well written, her voice pierces through you, and she has a grasp on truth and way to communicate that understanding that’s basically unparalleled at the moment. The select few songs that one could consider “young people music” and are more beat-focused are not actually the majority of her musical spectrum. She’s ridiculously good, so many of us old music snobs have gotten obsessed with her. You’ll see.

    • @FernStone

Ive listened to quite a few of her songs and have loved them ! But never sat and listened to an album properly if that makes sense ! I love Everything I Wanted , I love All The Good Girls Go To Hell (I did a cover of it on my UA-cam channel if you want t check it out , did a very fun version !) , I love this one , Your Power. I saw the video and heard the song to I Wanna End Me ( not sure if that is the name) I loved that too !!! But I need to really sit and listen to all of them ! Thank you for your wonderful list :D I know so many people of all ages love her !! I think I just got it trapped in my head that I'm not that interested because she is too cool for me hahahahaha

    • @nomadine85
      @nomadine85 3 роки тому

@@FernStone I think you’re thinking of Bury a Friend, the most repeated line is “I wanna end me”. Her album “when we all fall asleep where do we go” has a progression from start to finish, so even if you’ve heard songs before, don’t skip them (as I’ve seen some reactors do). Even if you don’t react to it but listen to the album in your own time, just try to do it from start to finish. So good. In my head she currently has “four collections” of songs, namely 1. Her LP 2. Her album 3. Her live songs and covers 4. Her additional singles. So while people say “oh I’m looking forward to her second album” I’m over here saying “I’m looking forward to her fifth album” and yea I know that’s not how that works but I think in terms of how much (really amazing) music she’s already done... this will be her fifth album, you know?

Love this! Billie's EP, "don't smile at me", is so good! It came before the big album with, "Bad Guy."
Guess who is a huge influence on Billie and one of her biggest inspirations.... yep, Lana!
And just want to say I'm thinking of you, thank you for sharing your feelings and experience. Some things will always stay with us, in the background, but we heal and are able to feel joy and that's a blessing. ♥️
Info on the song~ Billie "dated" (I don't want to use the actual words) a 22 yr old when she was 16 years old. This was when she was going on tour for her EP and all the way into her Coachella appearance. He treated her like trash and this song is all about him. I believe there are 22 seconds of silence at the end to signify his age. When she talks about taking away "your contract", is referring to the fact he's a performer as well. This relationship was sort of kept out of the limelight, but fans that followed her Instagram lives and things like that knew. He's known as Q or 7 sometimes.

Yes - you're right about that. But Aurora is not the only singer that has inspired Billie Eilish. A number of singers and musicians have become the inspiration for Billie like: Amy Winehouse - Tyle The Creator - The Beatles - Lana Del Rey - Nicki Minaj - Frank Sinatra - Marina And The Diamonds etc. If you have time - you can notice she mentioned one or two of those popular singers in all her interviews.

I typed all these comments out from memory on my phone. 😅 On other days I forget what the word for that thing is that separates two rooms. Or my name. But a list of songs?! I know those. Last but not least I wanted to say that I do the exact same thing. I seem very uncaring and cold about my childhood ab*** experiences, as if they happened to someone else. People are surprised how calmly I can talk about it, but I dissociated, I might as well be retelling facts from a movie. So I get it, and I recognise it. Perfectly valid form of coping. 💪🏽

the 22 seconds of silence was because her ex who she’s talking about was 22 at the time (24 now) He groomed her and mentally abused her at only 16 which is basically what the song is about.

Based on your comments I think you would enjoy the following of Billie’s songs:
    - My Future (a recent single that will be part of the coming album)
    - Everything I Wanted (a recent single about her friendship with her brother and... other stuff)
    - When the Party’s Over (from her first album. I dare you not to tear up watching it)
    - Lovely (with Khalid, a single from her LP times. Tbh this one only hits people hard who’ve experienced depression themselves, I noticed)
    - Xanny (it’s not about what you’d think, definitely pay attention to the lyrics)
    - all the good girls go to hell (live at the Howard Stern show)
    - idontwannabeyouanymore (from her LP)
    - When I was Older (this one doesn’t have a music video, it’s a single for a movie but omg)
    - Come out and play (also doesn’t have a music video, but you might enjoy the live version at the Steve jobs theatre)
    - I love you (no video, but the live version at the Greek theatre makes me emotional)
    - End of the World (live with bbc radio one, it’s a cover and it’s basically in my top three favourite live performances of all times, along with Santana’s Black Magic Woman at Woodstock, Lauryn Hill’s mtv unplugged...)
Also, when it comes to lyrics, she’s Bob Dylan, so I definitely suggest switching on the subtitles in her videos as a rule. Her music requires to shut up and genuinely listen to appreciate all the subtleties and lyrical storytelling and literary word play, in addition to the insanely genius quality and layers of sound, ambiance, and thematic and stylistic diversity within a clear and recognisable signature consistency of THAT Billie voice that just punches your auditory brain while hugging your soul.

A couple more songs that are either more obscure or more mainstream and that I would recommend once you’ve listened to the ones above but that I still think you’d enjoy are
      - ilomilo (only a tour visualiser video, no actual video. The live version of this song at the Steve jobs theatre is also chefs kiss. That entire concert, tbh)
      - no time to die
      - listen before I go (this is arguably her most trigger warning requiring song. Proceed with caution. there’s no video but you guessed it, a live version at the Steve jobs theatre. But I would listen to the studio version first.)
      - you don’t get me high any more (cover of pentogram... I think that’s what they’re called? I keep forgetting. But it’s at bbc radio 1. Also, keep in mind the lyrics from Xanny, and her age when she sings this. It’s clearly one of her favourite songs because of the musical, technical and lyrical aspects rather than the content itself)
There’s more, obviously. And I think once you’ve listened to these songs you’ll probably appreciate her other songs more as well, both lyrically as well as from a musical production genius level that is unique to her and Finneas.
