With vulnerability and authenticity, Joni Eareckson Tada shares her personal battle against the dark opponent of depression.
Depression will try to convince you that you have no purpose and that God’s promises are not to be believed. But as Joni explains, you must not act on those feelings. You have to fight to act on what God says. We are praying that Joni’s exhortation from God’s Word inspires you to say no to depression.

Thank you Joni! I turned 71 in June, and know you’re about the same. I’ve had MS for 40 years. I recently fell again & was hospitalized. Today I didn’t want to get out of bed. It’s not close to what you’ve dealt with - I know that, and Jesus has always been there for me!!! It’s a combination of “the world”, and wanting to hear what’s happening, but getting sick to my stomach for where we are. The great, good and wonderful part? I know you know it! Jesus is coming soon!!! I had a little 10 yr old great-niece in Alaska, tell me on a card -
“Jesus has more for you to do.” I’ve met her twice, and she doesn’t even really know me. That’s a strength. My 3 granddaughters are the same. There is so much to be thankful for, and yet today’s - I don’t want to get up. Now I’ll get up to go down for bed. I saw your message, and again from the Lord - through you - I am given strength. I love you Joni!

She is an inspiration and beloved servant of Christ. Joni is a walking example of undying faith and courage to walk the walk of Jesus without stopping. I met her and her husband years ago and it was a blessing. What an incredible believer. My faith needs more conviction and trust. I suffer from depression and social anxiety like Joni does. It is a major hurdle to overcome and when it roars its ugly head, it runs one of joy and faith. Sometimes it becomes so bad that I can't think rationally or function normally. God is the only way I can get through another day. He is my rock and arms for suppprt. Without His Love for me, I would be dead. Thank you Joni for the love you have for others and your devout belief in God gives your followers the courage to go on as we watch the struggles you face being disabled. May God continue to give you and your husband gifts of hope and blessings. The Lord would say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." 🙏🌷🌻🌴⛪ I met you and your husband at your worship center in Agoura years ago and it was the highlight of my life.

🤗🤗🙏I know what you said, because I'm sick too. I have scleroderma, Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and I have my Hips replaced and I live with chronic pain, fatigue. And I loosing my hands fingers 😪But I know in who I trusted. My Lord and my Refuge and my Strength. Thank you BEAUTIFUL lady for EVERYTHING you do for your Friends. I'm so sorry your depressed, your not alone. I've been practicly in bed for two years waiting for back surgery. When your depressed just remember we all love you, and look forward to your encouraging words on utube.💞🤩

Dear and Gracious God, Encourage this sweet and precious lady as she struggles with depression. I, too, find it challenging, and need to fight it more aggressively at certain times than another. But I have learned over time that, like Joni, I need to rise up and fight strongly against it, purposely looking for things for which to thank and praise Him. Thank you, Joni, for sharing your thoughts and feelings so openly with us. We hear you, dear sister in Christ, and we are praying for you, as we pray for ourselves in these moments of great struggle. Thank you Joni, I will commit to pray for you! I too battle with seasons of depression, anxiety, and worry when I KNOW the word of God says HE is in control, I am his, and we are to be anxious for nothing. It is a battle, as you say a horrible, nasty no good battle and I long for the day we are all given perfect healthy resurrected bodies, with perfect brain chemistry, and perfect understanding, perfectly glorifying God, and enjoying him forever. In the meantime, we will rely on the Grace of God, and together long for the moment we see our Savior face to face.

Oh, Joni. Your open, honest, transparent expression of your battle w depression REALLY touched me this morning. You really do know how I feel sometimes! Ive heard you speak many times abt depression but today it really hit me. Not only that but I see you in a new way. Suddenly, like that! I cant even describe it other than maybe a kindred spirit. Leslie Harris,You took the words right out of my mouth except for talking about husbands for I'm single and live with my single brother. I sometimes think I could liken him to a husband though. Oh Joni, you hit the center of my being, too.
You were so very real, Joni, more than ever before. I sooo appreciated your expressing deeply felt emotions. I really resonated with what you shared about being contained within 4 walls. Recently I was seriously ill for 6 consecutive days. I’m well now, though my body needed to sleep off and on. What struck my soul deeply were your comments on feelings; particularly about feeling God rather than believing God.
In my UA-cam library I have many categories of interests. Two of these are labeled, “In Christ” and “2 Deep 4 Words”. Though I have most of your teachings in my “In Christ” file, today’s teaching was quickly placed in “2 Deep 4 Words”! Thank you. Thank You, Lord Jesus.

It is imperative to fix our attention and eyes on our Rock and not what we’re feeling. Thank God for Jesus, our Healer!

I have struggled with depression off and on for over 20 years... the last few have been the lowest and thinking I am worthless and I can't possibly be saved.
I am about your age and was a new Christian when I heard what had happened to you. You're an inspiration to many... and sharing this is such a blessing. Chronic illness and the medicine involved all play a part in mine.
May you and your husband continue to minister and prayers for your encouragement and blessings.

I think depression is okay, its an emotion God made, you just don't want to stay in it too long
I understand Mrs. Joni , for I too suffer from pain everyday and it is a great challenge. I've been disable for many years with chronic pain all over my body plus more, but I am learning to trust in the Lord with all my heart nd soul because he walks and comforts me always and forever. Thank you Joni. My anxiety has been extra bad if that's possible the last 6 months. I have had anxiety for 12 years now. This year has brought much stress, our country in a mess. Our values, our happiness, joy of life being taken from us. I run to God, I cry out to God. I read scripture and pray and know that God's word heals us. I appreciate you sharing . What an inspiration you are! I'll be praying for you. Im going through the same thing.
There is hardly a week, hardly a day, that goes by where I don't think depressive, suicidal thoughts. But then I remember what a joy and what a thrill it is to be used of God, and I'm living to hear the great I AM tell me "Well done, thou good and faithful servant" in the very end. I don't want to miss out on hearing those words or receiving those rewards because I choose to cave in to depressive thoughts rather than leaning into God.
About suicidal thoughts, please consider medication, and talk to a pastor and therapist. Go to a mental health hospital or the emergency room if you must.
I think God created doctors, including psychiatrists. I think He created medicines (with pharmacy companies' help), including antidepressants.

This morning I was resisting getting up for the pain filled day and suffering after a blessed night of sleep. Then I remembered how Jesus had met me in my prayers and praises and lifted the difficulties. I got up seeking to find Him in the pain and be blessed.

Yes it is a fight to battle depression, yet nestling into God is the only real help.
There is a good side to depression, you are better able to empathise with others.
