      You should call or talk to the hiring manger if you can get the job to work over there. I'm trying to get a job and no one has called or anything with me, so I will go and pick my friend who has an interview with someone else and I'll be asking some questions like "I'm wondering if I can speak with the hiring manger?" you can try going to places and see if you get an job interview or not.

    I am a retailer and I been through interviews I failed. I gathered experiences with myself and my friends and discovered the reasons and what I should and should NOT do when you want to get the retail job.
    1. No slippers, short pants, caps for interview
    2. NO BADMOUTHING ABOUT PAST NASTY CUSTOMERS (EVEN IF THEY ASK)
    3. Show confidence and positive energy( Smile, energetic, good posture)
    4. Research a bit about the company (sell clothes, sell devices, sell watches etc)
    5. Eye contact. They want you to have eye contact with customers so it's better you show basic eye contact with your interviewer.
    It's ok if you have no experience. IN this line, they won't care much about experience, unlike engineering jobs, banking etc. Always say you can, even if you doubt yourself a little.

      +Krystal O. I so get you. I was suffering from anxiety as well. I still have this problem but I do not let it affect me now. I have improved a lot and actually like to be around people. I would say just take some time off, if you can out off getting a job then take don't work for sometime. But in this time work on yourself, therapy and counselling sessions. Also do things you really enjoy like working out, sports, painting, crafting, reading...anything. Having a balanced life like working out, eating healthy...can help heaps with anxiety, stress. You could also try to volunteer (when the time is right) for some cause you are passionate or something you really enjoy, this should help with anxiety to some extent. Slowly you will see that you are making improvements and are ready to work. I would recommend start with a counselor and a healthy lifestyle. I hope I helped and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or anything. :)

    I am just laughing at these videos about how to get a job. As someone who has applied for jobs in retail and has worked in retail, it isn't that hard to get hired. While it does seem like I am coming off as conceited and naive, I speak from experience, researching, and just using common sense. "If I wanted to get hired, but didn't want to look desperate, what would I do?" Ideas like that people should keep in mind.
    If you don't have any job experience, do lots of volunteering and try to apply for jobs you know you can obtain with little to no experience. Some good entry level positions are ones in retail and/or restaurants. There are some other entry level jobs out there, but retail and restaurants (i.e. fast food and diners) are the big two. Also, if you can get work at a young age, then do so. If you are an adult and have no work experience, then do what I mentioned above or go to any local career fairs. Colleges and universities often have career fairs.
    Also, making friends helps you because friends give you references for jobs you are applying at.
    Not that hard to get a retail or even restaurant job if you are persistent, have good work ethic, and have friends.

    I've worked as a retail manager for years. I couldn't agree more with her comment about dressing professionally. The first impression you make is very important, so dress like it. Even if the store where you are applying is very casual, dressing professionally shows that you take the interview seriously. It's kinda like going on a first date. If the person you're going out with shows up in sweatpants and flip flops and looks like they just rolled out of bed, it might lead you to think that they don't feel that you were worth the effort to look nice. That's the same message you send to managers if you come to an interview looking like a bum.

      don't cry :( you are still very young . Just make sure that the stores you are applying to hire people under 18 , many stores only hire 18 and over. Also if you have friends that work try asking them to refer you .. sometimes its all about who you know ; )

      lynsays channal you do know that after you apply, you need to go there and ask if they are still looking for someone. right? you tell them you have applied online and that you really wanna work. by the way, make sure you talk directly to the manager in charge of applications. i have at least three work experiences.

      @ltaya595 9 років тому

      +lynsays channal Keep trying you're really young and just keep trying keep calling in or going up there and checking up on your application, it took me a very long time to find a job because I didn't get my license until I was 21 because I have cerebral palsy, I started looking for a job when I turned 16 and didn't find one until I was 19 and out of high school, being in high school and having no experience makes it very hard to get a job, it's kind of a catch 22 but have you tried wal-mart or somewhere like that their good about getting back to people quick and they hire pretty much everyone, keep your chin up

    • @Star-wi7ty
      @Star-wi7ty 9 років тому +1

      +lynsays channal you do know you have to go up there in person or either call and talk to the manager over the phone you know. Plus you have to read there age policy first before applying for any job. It not easy as it sound now that everyone is trying to go for that same position.

    As much as I try to watch these videos, studying about the job, write down my interview questions, and practice talk into a camera or mirror, I can not for some reason do well in interviews. ANd it's very frustrating. The reason is because I have anxiety and because I can NOT bull shit talk. And no, it's not because I act weird or anything, I have good posture, direct eye contact, professional outfit, it's just cause I hate words and not a big talker. A lot of people in these videos will say "be yourself, and don't lie" but the highlight of these answers to these questions are lies... and ridiculously long, what is it, a speech? Am I getting graded after this? damn if I was a manager, I would see right through these "rehearsed" questions. And if anyone said "perfectionist" as a weakness, instantly I wouldn't considered them because I promise you that is the most over used lie I 've heard. to get a job like this, you have to be a good talker and bull shitter that knows how to study, otherwise it's gonna be a no go...I have a group interview tomorrow lol if I don't get the job, maybe seeing how the other candidates will help me learn to bull shit for the next one

      It helps to have a great cover letter when you don't have any retail experience.

    • @mackovo6
      @mackovo6 9 років тому +3

      +Natalie Vanessa Your resume don't need to contain much for a retailer. Your most relevant job exp, and a short description about yourself will be the key ones. But usually you call in to ask if there is any job. And they may just ask you for a walk-in interview.

    • @ltaya595
      @ltaya595 9 років тому +3

      +Natalie Vanessa If you have no work experience you usually just go in and ask for an application fill it out and give back to them and make sure you call or go in to the store every so often to check up on your application status If you want to do a resume just put down volunteer experiences you have had working with other people or activities that you have participated in that requires team work and your education. and Yes having a good cover letter is a huge plus as well.

    Hi, Thank you for sharing this video, I learned a lot from your comments related to staying on topic whether the job be retail focused or office focused. You are so articulate, and passionate, and believable. I admire this Truth about you. I've had a lot of jobs when I was younger, however, now as I get older, I find it difficult to obtain that offer of employment. So now I am looking at retail jobs. I have to remember that not only looking the part, but being knowledgeable and staying on topic is key. Thanks again.

    I have a question a lot of times in job interviews the interviewer asks personal questions like what do you do when you are not working and I feel like its a trick question to try and catch you. What would be a decent way to answer that ?

    • @loveandsprinkles0005
      @loveandsprinkles0005 6 років тому +1

      Samantha Montes when the interviewer asks personal questions you tell them I’m sorry but I can’t answer those questions . They do that just to see how alert you are they are not supposed to ask you anything like your age , if your married, your sexuality, bla bla bla... if they ask about weaknesses just tell them I tend to work too hard

    For all of you guys wondering why you may not be getting a call back, check and see how your resume really looks like and make sure you're not repeating words on it. From experience, I went in to a career counselor at my school and he made edits on my whole resume. When I changed it up, I started to get calls back and what not

    • @karensandiego
      @karensandiego  6 років тому +2

      Tricia Ragoonauth heyyy Tricia , thanks for watching !! The important thing about rude customers is not to ever match their energy , kill them with kindness . You can say “when I have a rude customer i make a conscious effort to make sure that I do not match their energy , I express that I understand why they are upset and ask what I can do to make the situation better . If at that point I am unable to deescalate the situation I would call my manager over to talk to the customer all while never expressing anger or frustration to the customer “ Hope that helps ! : )

    It all depends on the day of the interview and who your interviewer is. You can be the most prepared person and have the best outfit, but if you get a scumbag or someone that is not interested in their managerial role then you will be disappointed. So far, I've only managed to get jobs in retail via friends. They passed on my CV to the HR department which then was followed by a phone interview with the store manager. The hardest part about getting a job in retail is not the interview, it is being recognised and being invited to that first interview stage. In the UK it seems that unless you come from a Spanish Speaking background, it is impossible to work for some of the high street brands such as Zara,Pull&Bear. Most employees there have doubtful hygiene and can't even speak the language properly, yet they manage to get the jobs simply because they speak a very popular language.
    But hey, stay positive and keep on trying.

    Question: I have an interview at a Steve Madden shoe store tomorrow. Do you have any knowledge of their trends and popular items?

    • @karensandiego
      @karensandiego  9 років тому

      thank you ! .. im not sure exactly what trends they are highlighting this season but i would suggest going on their website to see what they are focusing on. Steve madden is a company that offers "designer style" shoes without the designer prices so you may want to mention that during the interview when they ask why you want to work there. Also take some time to research the company history prior to the interview. And make when picking out your outfit you wear a shoe similar to something that would be sold in the store.

    What do you put on a resume if you have no experience at all????? I don't want to leave anything blank. And how in the world do you write a cover letter?

    • @karensandiego
      @karensandiego  9 років тому +29

      You could draw from "non work" experience such as volunteer work or achievements you have made in school. If you used to baby sit for family members that counts as work experience so just jazz that up ( ex : child care provider : supervised up to 4 children , facilitated play activities , assisted with homework etc) just make sure the job description is similar to what would be needed to a retail job ( ex catered to parents and children = customer service ) .... For the cover letter you would personalize it to each company you are applying for and explain why you want to work there, why you would be a good asset to the company .... Hope this helps :)
