Just by watching her performances, I can tell she really put focus and concentration on her voice and control. She's not just jumping on stage and singing.
I remember I went to a Luther concert and there she was, singing background for him, and this was not that long AFTER she had her big hit. It was weird...it was like, here's this person who's kind of a star too, yet she's just in the background behind Luther. Same thing happened when I saw George Michael, and Deon Estus was back playing bass for him, shortly after he'd had his one big hit.
@@ezwriter5589 Truth be told Lisa never wanted to be a big solo star. She said she was happy singing background and helping with vocal arrangements for the artists she worked with. It was Luther who convinced her to get into the studio to cut her debut album and single "How Can I Ease The Pain".
I was blessed to see her do this on Tina Turner's last tour. Watch 20 feet from Stardom. She opted out of solo star fame for steady work as a background singer.
There is no one I mean absolutely NO ONE in the music industry that sounds like her. Dynamic to the highest power. @PurelyAfrican She never wanted a solo career in the first place. Luther Vandross pushed her to record So Intense when she was still singing background for him. Then he would pull her out to do a set of her songs in the midst of the show before she would head right back to her background mike. If you think she sounds good here, you should have heard her live then. She exceeded the recorded track!!
