I love this series. I've been waiting for a deep dive on individual ammendments for a long time. Personally I don't top dress to fix deficiencies. I top dress in week 3 of veg to front load nutrients I want for the next phase of growth. I like foliar feedings to fix imbalances. It's available now.

"I foliar feed to fix imbalances" but why? There will be a time the plant is growing less then optimum before it shows an imbalance. Then sometimes what you think the imbalance is might not be the only issue? Then foliar feeding isn't going to build a plants best immune system as when its uptaken through the roots. I guess with everyone to each is own but I haven't seen deficiencies in plants for 3 years. Right now I'm slow composting soil for next years grows. My soil right now was started last spring and composted out in a massive pile with nature. Its so dull of worms who need to buy castings? I live on th3 coast so its also breaking down seaweed, crab shells and these little crustreantions that live on the waters edge in seagrasses blown up in storms. They are loaded with Chitosan being broken down with egg shells, veggie scraps, fish carcasses after being cleaned so by the following spring its all beautiful black soil with the best earthy smell full of worms. I also toss in mychorizae to start to colonize. I understand that when I dig it out the mychorizae is torn up but it recolonizes itsekf very fast. Then when I do plant I'll add a little freshly started compost to let it break down and release nitrogen for a long time. Granted I have time and the land to do it but its better then anything anyone can buy in a bag. Everything gets in line for calcium green sand for potassium oyster shells sun dried, crushed into powder then added in even a little Epsom salt for the Magnesium. I notice if any damage happens like my cat chasing hummingbirds that hover around them like they're trying to figure out where the flower is and if my cat break branches I can take the wound together and by a week there's a huge knuckle there are she's healed that quick. That suggests a seriously strong healthy plant with a good immune system being no bacteria or fungi bother any injuries. I do foliar feed in flower to bump up level of things depending on the strain and what terps i'm trying to get in it to add in the strain like if I want to pull out purple in the flowers by week 6 of flower regardless to the night time temps.

Enjoy the channel and finding this series especially helpful. I was wondering if DTE's absence from your store is based on the dbag nature of Hawthorne/Monsanto or another reason. It's unfortunate that those guys are the exclusive distributors of almost everything

Hi Guys thanks for a great pod cast !! All i would like to suggest is the use of black soldier fly larvae (FRASS) poop ! with larvae exoskeleton . Bsfl frass has 10 times the nutrient value of earthworm castings ,and the exoskeleton is high chitin .the larvae them self's are loaded with high grade Proteins Omega oil, Calcium................!!! high grade animal feed, BSFL are AMAZING WASTE2PROTEIN CONVERTORS ! and the bsfl reduce carbon emissions from composting buy 40% . last but not least is buy supporting Black soldier fly larvae farming we are not encouraging marine exploitation of a valuable and finite resources .BSFL !! PALENGENISIS !!

Crab shell is also great for the chelating (spelling?) process to help get those micro minerals broken down and absorbed helping with photosynthesis. It goes well if you go with the whole "from the sea" amendments while composting it into the soil long before you want to use it. Powdered oyster shells, seaweed and bay grasses even seagulls feces that is loaded with digested fish is excellent but with that its I.portent to do a cooking type of compost to kill of any bad bacteria.
There is a shortage of oyster shells? I can pull out a truck load in 2 days. Granted it needs to be rinsed, dried and washed again before grinding it down. Maybe I should start selling supplements being where I live I can access it and have the property to start breaking it down in advance of bagging to sell. Crab shells also. Even these small crustrations that hide in grass beached from low tides. If I leave the grass in the sun they die and turn reddish pink like a cross between shrimp and a cooked lobster its loaded with gardening greatness including iron, copper and manganese which is needed for oils late in flower

so if your doing an organic grow using dry amendments you REALLY should cook your soil then huh? otherwise the only readily available nutrients will be what was in the base mix right, well aside from anything thats more water soluble
