Massive export log train departing Kinleith

  • Kiwirail DL 9360 departing Kinleith yards with a massive rake of export logs bound for Port of Tauranga's Mount Maunganui site. Once the logs arrive at Mount Maunganui they will be stock piled before being exported overseas.
    Logs come from number of forestry sites around the area including the nearby 188,000 hectare Kaingaroa Forest, which is New Zealand's largest forestry plantation.

      Yes, but the log trains out of Murapura are some of the heaviest in New Zealand.

      Thanks, approx 40 wagons, so total train weight about 2400T, with a net weight of 1600T of logs

    Great vid…, but why the hell we export whole/ raw …. No value added logs…

      Not enough internal demand & NZ cannot produce milled timber at the same price.
