Tawny Owl visits the Wild Owl Garden

- On the first day of winter a wild tawny owl is drawn into the Wild Owl garden in Yate by the calls of my captive tawny owl Jaz.
Tawnies often live around us and are sometimes heard but seldom seen - not tonight though!
A few weeks ago I was in the woods at night conversing with a female tawny owl. I was imitating a male call like you did and she was responding. We did this back and fourth. You're lucky that you have an owl and can view wild ones right outside your window. I have to go to the woods for that and the nearest wood is like an hour train journey away.
Tell them you’re reenacting the watergate break in with the torch!
Beautiful...... I have a male & female come to my rural property every night I love it !
I am looking for Tawny Owls for months now - without any success although I have some good informations about where to find them. But there is a cemetery in my neighborhood - and in April we had a visit of an eagle owl there for a few days. Could hear it from my window and even saw for a few seconds during dusk. Awesome animals! Keep up your good educational work!
Patrick Pohlmann Thank you Patrick - here in Southern England is is the most common owl we have :-)
I've never seen any of those owls though I was searching for them. Probably I'll have to visit your garden :)
I'm sure there is one closer than that Franek! :-)
I wish i could get as good of footage as this
If you put your camera on a tripod & go to woodland at this time of year where they are found Andrew you should be able to shine a torch and film if you have a good zoom (mine is 20x optical Canon Legria HF G30) they should sit still for a bit - the odd hoot will draw them in if they are in their territory but calling wild owls should be done responsibly to avoid too much disturbance.
WildOwlTV If you look on page I managed a decent sound recording. But my camera vision is terrible. Thanks for your advice.
For owls Andrew you really need a camera with good low-light capability - as you would imagine it was one of the features on my list when I bought the Canon - if you ever decide to upgrade I can definitely recommend mine - superb capability in all sorts of wildlife work and also a 20x optical zoom which is superb :-) Bye.
WildOwlTV I am only using my camera phone (an LG) for my wildlife videos which makes things extremely accessible but limits quality. I try to take videos around the environment i live. I also struggle to get any you tube views even when my videos are half decent even the sound recording of the Tawny Owl
HI Andrew - phones are great but obviously very limited - not sure how build You Tube audiences - I just keep posting stuff and hope its of interest and educational!
