Bro.. Patreon is nothing to fret. It's for people that accept your teachings. Knowledge doesn't come cheap. All the trips, baits, lures, gas, equipment,food........... cost something. One thing is time that is an immeasurable value. And you can't put a $ figure on that. Be proud of your Patreon and all the people that come along with it. I grew up in all the spots you fish. Except lighthouse 🤙🤙🤙. I just like watching you fish where I'd like to be every day. Catching is a plus.

says he doesn’t lose fish or never lost a fish. “Loses” the jack but keeps it for shark bait so, in effect, he can still legitimately say he never lost no damn fish. 😂 Hahaha love it. No problem at all with him saying that. That’s why I love his presentations and quips and sayings.

Never will forget Paul Sholtz and Harold Reeves and Troy Martin and myself shark fishing one night on the PA north jetty. Paul had a big jack out for bait on his 12/O. He just cut the tail off like you did. And a little after midnight that clicker began to sing!
The wind had picked up and lots of spray was washing up on the rocks and concrete cap. We were all slckered up and had cletes on our shoes and Paul let him run as far as he dared 'cause we knew it was big to take that size of bait and steadily haul it on off. So we lined up behind Paul, each locking a grip arounrd Paul and in turn around the next in line and scratching our cletes through the thick and slick algea on the concrete, getting ready for the strike. Man the pucker factor was high at that moment! Then clunk and the reel was in gear and we held on, literally for dear life. And that drag on that little old 12/O screamed, and got hot, and blue smoke came out of it as one guy had let go of the belly hugging and used a flash light to watch the line left on the reel as it was being torn off at a terrible clip, and he also shining along the rocky way as we tried to keep up with the shark running down the jetty, keeping the line as perpendicular to the jetty as possible in order to minimize getting the line tangled in the rocks.
Now we were worried it might be a real monster like the two giant hammers caught previously in this same spot, that measured 14' 6" & 15' 4". Or the one battled the next week for 3 hrs by 3 men only to have it get tangled in the rocks and straighten the hooks. One they said had a dorsal a foot taller than the 15 ft 4 inch super trophy. BTW, those two sharks were caught on a 16/O Senators full of 200 lb braided nylon line, the best we had 60 yrs ago. Paul had maybe 600 yd of 150 lb test braided nylon on his reel. But he managed to turn that bad boy shark and it was a beauty of 10 ft 7 inches but very heavy well over 600 lb. Not a giant, but a trophy fish, if sharks are really fish, which I doubt, since they are very different from boney fish. So called scientist have waffeled on this for decades.

This is a continuation, to set the story straight we need to get some real heroes of giant fish catching in South Texas identified and why they are that. First there were Ira Van Loh and Louis Raywalt. They carved lures from broom handles in the shape of extra large Zarra Spooks, and King Vamps and used 22 ft calcutta poles while wading in the passes catching HUGE snook and redfish. Ira later ran the bait and tackle and beer and burger store on the sand behind the bulkheaded wall and parking lot at Bob Hall pier. Ira was a master electrician, in addition to a commercial fisherman. I remember one person telling me how the first time he met Ira. He had a pickup bed full of pompano. Ira was one of those that taught me how to catch snook. Louis had a bait shop on the NE corner of the PI causway and the Inrercoastal-waterway. Where Packary Channel runs into the Intercoastal. Louis caught the Texas record common snook in the method Ira told about. But he was not allowed an IGFA world record since they were not allowing trebel hooks on salt water record fish at that time. His snook was 57+ lb, caught in very shallow water in Packary Pass where the jetty is now, according to his fishing pardner Ira. I never met him, but Wilson Pipes (worked for Louis ) and he gaffed Ira Loveday's tarpon that a huge bull shark tried to eat. But Willie was too good with the 22+ ft pole and hook. Mr. Ira Loveday Senior, held the length record for sawfish at Bob Hall Pier and it was over 16 ft. Some guy caught a bigger one down P. I. beach at over 17 ft but Mr. Loveday enjoyed catching pompano, mackeral, tarpon, every sport fish and was extremely good at doing it when nobody else was catching anything.
There were also guys were like Jake Marajek, an oil field welder, he got a MASH TV style army ambulance, put a 14 ft aluminum boat like mine on top, went to Mexico and crossed the Mexican Laguna in all that wind, to 8th pass and brought back 2000 lb of snook. His pics of that catch were in Cages Hardware on Leopard St., East of Port Av. And Dale Murray caught a 13 foot tiger shark from that pier. There was the Port Aransas city marshall that cauvht a tiger over 13 ft in a boat near the N. Jetty. It dwarfed my 11 footer caught from the rocks there. And back to Bob Hall pier, Wayne McBee caught three greater hammerheads there just under 12 ft each. I helped him land the first one almost 800lb.. But he caught two more later the same day. And Troy Martin caught a sawfish about 13 ft all by himself from that pier. He fought it untill it died and jumped in to swim it to the beach after the cable leader broke. Paul Sholtz and I caught two sand tigers 10 ft 7 in and 10 ft 5 in on each half of a 35 lb baracuda, while fishing about 13 miles South of Yarbrough Pass.
All those fish were monsters, caught mostly on baits as big or bigger than that redfish or jack shown here and not cut up into little chunks. In fact the two giant hammers caught on the north jetty were caught on an 8 ft hammerhead cut into three equal pieces and one piece got a 14/O reel completely stripped of line.
