I was very surprised when I realized that my favorite part from the Jaco version was played by Bob Mintzer instead of Michael Brecker. Since then I have been listening to Bob a lot and the more I listen to him the more I like his playing.

Thank you, Paul. I'm a bit confused by the alto transcript. You say this is in the key of G but there is no key signature. All of the F's are marked sharp as if they are accidentals (which they are not in the key of G). Is it not standard to at least show the correct key signature at the beginning of the piece?

Hi Shannon, yes you’re correct that that in the key of G you should have F# in the key signature. In retrospect maybe I should have. My thinking at the time was that as this is a blues tune with a lot of flat 7ths, (which lowers the F# to F natural) that it would be easier to not have a key signature and just write in the F#s where needed. This is particularly true for the intermediate and advanced versions where you have the longer solos.
