Sounds like you're less focused on the wedding and more focused on the marriage. After 45 years of marriage I can tell you you're doing the right thing! Congratulations! God bless you.

Congratulations! We got married 18 years ago. It was a small outside wedding at our favorite spot by the river. I made my dress, his coat, and our cake. I think I spent about $300 for the whole thing. One fun thing that is a family tradition on my mom’s side is to ask each guest to bring one flower, then make the bride’s bouquet from them all. It kind of represents the good wishes from your friends and family. 😊

Married in 1974 at church, had reception in the fellowship hall with a wedding cake, mints, nuts and punch. No music at the reception. Loved the simplicity, happy times. and uncomplicated memories!

I'll soon be 63 years old. Got married in 1974 at the age of 15. Had my first baby at 16. Been married for 47 years this last November to the same man. I wore my eighth grade graduation dress for my wedding dress. We got married at the preachers house with two witnesses. We didn't go on no honeymoon because we didn't have any money and a baby on the way. My husband and I went to school together from elementary to 1 year in high school. He was my best friend. There have been hard times but we worked them out together. Together is the key. We both were born in NC and we still live close to where we both were raised. I also have a twin sister, we look nothing alike. My husband came from a big family. There were 16 brothers and sisters total. I wish yall the best life can give! Rely on each other and you will make it I'm sure. You both seem like the perfect couple. Thanks for bringing back good memories for me!

We were married in December 1965, two students on Christmas break from our college and business school. Only 35 family and guests and we chose the venue as a little country church in the mountains of Oregon. We had no money (of our own nor from any family), so the church was decorated for Christmas with lots of holly, evergreens from the mountain trees and poinsettias which decided our color scheme. Surely was simple but all the years later, definitely lovely. This year we are celebrating our 56th anniversary. and can only tell you that "simple" is underrated and all the trials of our marriage would not have been any different if we had an expensive fabulous wedding. Best of luck to you two. Plan the wedding that is meaningful to you and enjoy a long and happy life together.

Me and my husband had a very very simple wedding with only 20 people. We didn’t even invite some of the family lol. I had a 100 dollar dress from Lulus and we had a big sit down meal at a table with Italian food and yummy cake. No dancing or bridesmaid or groomsmen. We got married 3/3/2018! March is a pretty month and we had amazing weather for ours. You won’t regret having a simple to do. It’s not worth it IMO to stress over something that is supposed to be about you and your husbands union before the Lord. I like your mindset about it. Enjoy this special time ❤️

Congratulations to you both. When I was still a Pastor, I did all types of weddings. I always thought the simpler the wedding the better the marriage. The wedding is to be a celebration of the relationship. Unfortunately so many today put more work into the celebration rather than the relationship. I wish you both the best. You are quality people and I am sure you will both be great together and each other.

Everyone pitched in and many hands made light work.

My wife and I got married for around $400. Kept it small, family only, bought everyone dinner after. The whole thing cost us about $650. We didn't have much money and neither did anyone in our family. It wasn't about the wedding anyway. It was a celebration of our love for each other and that's it. Don't need no big ole to do over it. My brother and his wife (who was and is my wife's best friend) went to the courthouse on a Thursday after work with and with a few of us in attendance, tied the knot. Dinner, bed, back to work the next day. Simple.

I have been to weddings that cost $$$. However, mine was really pretty without spending so much. His grandmother said that we were just as married as the ones that spent $$$. We didn’t start with debt or make my parents pay for it.
We had it on the half hour-1:30. The old saying is about the clock hands going up instead of down. If the hands are going down that it is bad luck for the marriage!! 🤣🤣 Have fun planning your beautiful wedding.

SO happy for you!!! My daughter got married in the spring two years ago in the Hill Country in Texas. It is expensive, but I found that the food is important because people will travel to come to the wedding, and you need to feed them well. Be careful with your budget and spend on what is most important to you (flowers, photography/pictures, venue/setting, music). We had a string quartet, and the live music really set the mood. Tell your mom to look for her dress early. I was so focused on my daughter’s dress and the wedding, I forgot about my dress. I found one three days! before the ceremony. The most important thing is to not stress, try to enjoy the process, watch your budget, and enlist the help of family and friends! You will be a beautiful bride!

Congratulations! My husband and I have been married for almost 3 years, have known each other for almost 20. We are from West Virginia and live in Texas. We had our wedding in WV because that's where all our family is. We had a big cookout/reunion style wedding. Hamburgers/hotdogs (so I chuckled when y'all said hotdogs), nachos and cheese, popcorn, sno cones. We ended up being so crazy since we traveled for it. But not as crazy if we did something real in depth. We ended up having cake/cupcakes from Walmart that my brother-in-law ended up picking up between the ceremony and reception 🤣 we didn't even eat cake. I made all the decorations and he made the backdrop for the photobooth. We had a bunch of yard games and 'carnival' style prizes...but all the kids ended up spending the whole time in the pool (we had our reception at one of my aunt's). Our ceremony was along the creek at a part with just our parents, siblings, his aunt because she couldn't travel far. It was the best low-key day!

It sounds cliche, but it truly was the happiest day of my life. I smiled so much it hurt, and I felt like I was going to float away (on joy, not booze! the wedding was dry). That was 16 years ago. That's awesome. I'm happy for you two. My youngest daughter Hannah just got engaged to her bf Austin last month and it will be awhile before they set a date. When Austin asked me for my blessing I was torn between "no! She's my baby." And just being happy because Austin is a good guy. 😁
I pray you guys have a blessed, God centered, amazing marriage that most people only dream about.

Congratulations on setting a date. Enjoy every day with each other as it comes. My bride and I last month celebrated 34yrs as a married couple and I can hardly believe how time just flies by. If simplicity makes the two of you happy- go for it. Life has enough pressures to deal with, no need to make things more complicated when it isn't what you want. You are wise to choose carefully as you two will have plenty of things that you will have to spend your money on and having an expensive wedding isn't one of them.

We were able to get a fabulous venue for my daughter because she got married on a Thursday instead of the weekend. 800 instead of 3000$ She had a small family wedding also. We were able to just enjoy being together. She did a Facebook live for extended family and friends. Congrats and enjoy the journey!! Don’t stress because it can get complicated if you let it. Remember how you feel about everything now and go back and watch this video if you need to. This is the fun, wonderful, happy, time in your life sweet children. Congrats 🎉🥰🎉👍🎉🙏🎉💙🎉

BBQ sandwiches, slaw, baked beans and pickle sliced. All of this is served in a mason pint jar. With that pickle poked down in the jar is even.

Re the wedding dress, although you will only be wearing it for a few hours, keep in mind the photos last a lifetime. This is one time to really treat yourself. Re camo - don't dismiss it for the guys. Maybe neckties? Could be a nice twist and make the day more personalized. Of course they can come off later on.

So much wisdom for such young'uns! I could say so much, but will keep my comment focused on the most important thing. Keep the Lord at the center of your marriage. As you grow in Him, you will grow together. As sweet as it seems, if you make each other your main focus, you'll always be let down. But with Christ as your cornerstone, your foundation will be solid and you will both have an unchanging reference point to give you guidance in the good times and the bad. SO proud of you both!

Congratulations you two! Before you know it, the wedding day will come, how time flies. Prayers for you as you make plans & get ready. No matter your plans, beanie weanies, 😀 BBQ, tuxes, khakis, whatever, remember it is YOUR special day. 🤗🥰
Edit: Austin IS Mr. Right! 💕 Y'all are so cute calling each other "knuckleheads" 😀
You have your beautiful engagement ring on your left finger, thanks for sharing about how the ring was made. I'm curious about the simple gold band on your right finger?

Thank you! It is actually someone’s old wedding band. My great grandma worked at the YMCA years ago and people used to take their rings off to swim and leave them. Her daughter my grandmother ended up with them and gave me that one when I was a young teen because it fit me. 🥰

Here is our story: I'll soon be 63 years old. I had a crush on this guy when I was in middle school and high school. He had a crush on me as well. We both dropped out of high school and went our seperate ways. I was still living at home with my parents and our paths crossed again that summer. I went for a walk one hot summer day in our rural area and, I heard a car coming up behind me. It pulled over next to me and, I looked to see who it was. It was my crush that I had had for so many years! He asked me if I wanted to go to the movies that night. I accepted. Now, the best part. I was only 15 years old and he was 17. That fall we were married. I was with child. We were so scared of our future but, we made it. I'm still married to my "crush." This all happened back in 1974. The movie he took me to was a drive in movie. The best times in my life. I will never forget a dress that I wore to school and, when I would wear it his eyes just lit up. It wasn't the kind of dresses of today, just a simple little cotton dress. I wore it a couple times a week because I didn't have many clothes. I wore no makeup back then and, it seems that life was so simple then. I was married at 15 and had my baby at 16. He went to work and later I did too. We made it work. My little baby girl that I had is now 46 years old. I did have another little girl 5 years later and we were very pleased. In two years we will be married for 50 years. My husband still says that I am beautiful even though I have grey hair and wrinkles. I want this song played at out 50th wedding anniversary. Now days no one stays together anymore. So sad. It hasn't always been peaches and cream but, we have worked together on it. It's all about give and take. Gotta keep the balance. And, talk things out with one another. Don't go to your friends for advice but to your spouse. This facebook thing will ruin a marriage. Too much gossip. We had no facebook , computers , smartphones, flip phones etc back then. No chat rooms either. If we wanted to chat we talked to one another in person. I have been so Blessed with a wonderful husband who has stood by me no matter what. I just wanted to get my story out there because I'm getting older and, one never knows when it's their time to go. I hope when I am gone that this little story of mine will cross someone's mind. God Bless you all as I have been Blessed! I heard this song a few years back and I want it played at our 50th wedding anniversary. I hope we make it. Here it is >>> ua-cam.com/video/gyt0tTDt4dI/v-deo.html Another favorite of ours from the 70's >>> ua-cam.com/video/tZR1YPRim_Y/v-deo.html Take care and may God bless your home!

Congratulations on setting your wedding date guys! I'm totally with you about keeping it simple. My husband and I got married in my Pastor's study at church with two witnesses and no reception. I wore a nice dress I already had and my husband wore a suit and tie. We were together 37 years until he passed away this year so the size of the wedding sure doesn't make a difference!

Congratulations Miss Corie, I pray you and Austin has a blessed marriage. I told my wife Brandi recently that I believe God puts people together, but he expects us to work to keep it together. I believe without her in my life I would be dead by now, God had a plan for me and he has one for y’all. Come on and let him wear his UGA, us Georgia boys love to represent. I wore my black cowboy hat, white shirt, and black jeans in my wedding because I told her she would never see me in a suit again after I wore one to the prom. Little did I know I’d become a Pastor. My prayers go with you, also your family because it’s hard on them when one moves out. God bless y’all.

I get the whole it’s about you in your marriage but idk I think the actual ceremony and all that is for your families it’s for them to come together and for them to see how amazing your little family will be and how much you guys care about each-other
