- In this Morrowind challenge, we're going to try and save Tarhiel! Tarhiel is the wood elf who falls from the sky due to a failed experiment with a scroll that increases acrobatics. Our goal is to ensure that he has a safe landing.

If you remove all your clothes, Tarhiel's "I don't wanna talk about it" will be replaced by one of those "Good lord put your clothes on" dialogue boxes, and you'll see that his bartering inventory is actually empty.
I really don't know why they added this in Morrowind but it lead to me playing a Morag Tong assassin who would eat mushrooms and undress before taunting the victims until they attacked...

I remember saving him as a kid just by standing under him and letting him land on your head. For some reason him landing on the pc causes him to take no fall damage.

Yeah, I did the same thing once, I figured out how to avoid his falling event early on, then came back later and saved nearby once I had enough speed to get underneath him in time.

For every time Tarhiel is saved, there are 1000 alternate timelines where the Nerevarine underwent all of these preparations just to fail at the last second.
Fun fact, a slowfall magnitude of 1 is enough to negate falling damage. Any magnitude higher will just make you fall slower. Great for when you make a super jumping spell.
yep you just need magnitude 1 and no fall damage ever occurs. It's weird the game never tells you that.

You know, somehow I never really thought about using slow fall for the biggest possible jump. I mean of course you want to use the scroll of icarian flight, have an empty inventory, and use a strong bounce spell. But I never thought about adding slow fall on top. Considering you already jump over the whole island without using it, it may be difficult to measure the distance tho ^^

Fun fact about that tax collector quest, the tax records actually show who you need to kill and if you kill him w/o going to the Office you can pocket the 200 septims on top of the 500 you get for the quest xD

I remember when Morrowind glitched out on me in one playthrough and Tarhiel just didn't die when I approached. Don't remember what I did back then - probably saved or slept breaking the fall physics, heard a scream and was very confused to find a weird elf that wanted nothing to do with me just standing on top of a book in the middle of nowhere.
If you have Tamriel Rebuilt installed you'll get an actual quest for saving him since according to TR's plotline Tarhiel is a court mage in Old Ebonheart. If he dies, you'll have to help a new court mage ascend to the post

i thought tamriel rebuilt wouldn't be finished by like 2045?
@@prettyokandy230 it's not incorrect since there are still plenty of lands in Tamriel for the team to work on. But Tamriel Rebuilt already is a fully playable mod that includes tons of finished content. You could say that future updates for TR are like sequels or addons for a finished product.
We defo shouldn't wait to play it. And the quality is in places even better than vanilla (especially in the two latest updates).

@@prettyokandy230 Oh, I really encourage you to take that vacation. I'm playing TR and Skyrim: Home of the Nords since August and it's only halfway through or so. They already have more content than in TES V Skyrim or Oblivion and the landmass is 2 times bigger than Vvardenfel.
This project is not about finishing but about continuously expanding the game world in every direction - a neverending task motivated by love and creativity!

There is nothing quite like your first play through of Morrowind when an elf randomly falls out of the sky. Also, when you try out the scrolls yourself and die on impact while aiming for Balmora.
A more efficient way to do this was creating 1 pt levitation spell on target with a high area and casting it on the ground below our jumper. I've tried it a few years ago and it's worked very well.

A touching memorial to the many many many deaths of Tarhiel. His screams make such beautiful music, a harp of bones and blood for the heavens.

And, of course, he is completely and totally ambivalent to your efforts, rewarding you not at all. For let it be known that no good deed goes unpunished, a lesson well learned in The Elder Scrolls.

This man reviving Morrowind. I'm in the midst of my first playthrough in 8 years cuz of this guy.
For slowfall you only need magnitude 1 to prevent all fall damage.
Next Step: Dominate and Levitate on target. It's time to bring Tarhiel back into the sky where he belongs!
We all talking about dooming the timeline by saving our falling lad but it was already doomed the moment Ben was a dunner name.
Slowfall is an essential spell and is used as a buff on an exquisite shirt. It gets 5 points of night-eye, 1 point of slowfall which is all you ever need for a feather light touch on the ground no matter how far you fall, and waterbreathing. Notice the order of the enchantments because it matters. Any other order and all that won't fit onto the shirt.
Initially i thought the video was about _shaving_ Tarhiel.

Wonder why he doesn't wanna talk about it? Did he know his torture would come to an end? Is the failed experiment a guise? Surely he must've known about Slowfall and levitation. Yet he opted not to use such a safety measure. Did you really save him, Micky? Or did you rob him of his control over his exit from the cruel world that has taunted him so? Guardian angel? Or something much more sinister?
This is why morrowind is the best game ever.
It's so weird seeing Morrowind content in 2021 and I love it. I think we all tried to save him or at least talk to him (which is hilarious, considering he actually has a line).

I found your channel completely by happenstance. I started with watching “Oblivion NPC” videos, stumbled onto some of your uploads, and then ran into this gem. This guy remains to this day as one of my favorite NPCs of all time. I love those fekkin’ scrolls of Icarian Flight.
I literally just realized Icarian Flight = Icarus. As in: flying too close to the sun and falling. Wow. All these years and it just clicked.

Every time I start up morrowind, I tell myself I'll play something other than a mage.
Levitate + Boots of Blinding Speed is a hell of a drug.
Say "She sells spells but not slowfall at all." 3 times, fast.
Back in the day noticing and memorizing all of the little nice things in the statically designed world was the way to make your next run better faster, and then do it all again.. So we could play the game hundreds of times and probably not finish it 95% of them. :D
In regards to the tax collector quest - You can actually talk to Foryn after finding the tax guy, but before telling Socucius about it and never lose the 200, but still receive the 500 too.

I just made a spell that applied slowfall 1pt on target for like 10s and fortified my speed a bunch to run directly underneath him before casting

I did this way back in the day and was so sad there wasn't any secret quest or just some dialogue options that came from this.
You only need 1 point of slowfall to prevent all fall damage just so you know
An area of effect spell might make it easier to hit the guy. You could just target the ground once he is close enough.
Also quicker to cast with an enchanted ring rather than use an actual spell and have to go through all the hand motions....just sayin.
You can just stand under him. He doesnt die until he touches the ground.
It's nice to see the president saving local legends, especially such a named one.
The fun thing is that since acrobatics reduce fall damage he could have saved himself by just using another one.

I guess if you could hit Tarhiel with either a slowfall or leviation spell (as targeted type), while still falling, you could save him. The guy has no original dialogue, since he is supposed to just die. Funny thing about Morrowind (and makes the game so great) is the amount of freedom it gives to the player to mess up everything and break it any way you want, provided you have the skill, the knowledge and the drive to do so. It rewards crazy approaches.

The way that fucking elf runs is jsut like my nightmares when I can't outrun something chasing me. It's literally, exactly like this, somehow floating over the floor and never gaining any traction to push yourself forward. Fucking creepy.
