Faye's tutorials are always so great. She's one of the few creator's left that shows all the steps so you can actually use her videos to perform the job on your own vehicle. My only request is that i hope she does some Corolla videos since I just got a brand new one this month. 🥰

TECH TIP: Most people don't know this but a lot of Toyota's "OE" replacement pads are actually a "Value Line" substitute, you have to specifically ask for the Factory Installed pads if you want what the vehicle originally came with. Thumbs up 👍 this comment to keep it at the top of the list. As always GREAT VIDEO!

Is the parts guy at the Toyota dealership going to look at me funny when i explain that to him? I need to ask for NOT the replacement pads but the pads the car came with when built?

If it has az in the part number that is Toyotas economy line parts. Example 04495-az108... Or yyz in the number isn't a factory part.

I worked in automotive brake pads manufacturing for over a decade. So if your pads are ceramic, the ceramic pads material tend to crack especially if they get hot. Scorching the pads like these also cause cracking. Always check your pads at the parts store for cracks before purchasing. We used to produce over 11,000 parts in one 8hr shift a day. Something might get missed on occasion.
Love the videos, keep them coming!

I watched your videos and then did this on my 3rd gen 4runner. Last week my wife was driving us home from Tn and a deer ran out in front of the truck. She did awesome and the brakes worked perfectly. Her good driving and paired with good tires and 13wl brakes saved our bacon. Thank you for your videos. I've learned a ton from you, and that knowledge has officially saved our butts.

I taught my daughter how to change her pads and rotors when she was in college. Fairly simple with moderate tools. She has done the same for many of her friends saving them hundreds of dollars on brake jobs. She is not a mechanic or anything like it. But she was proud and fascinated by what she learned and has paid it forward.

Faye, the 91 lb-ft is from converting 123 Nm probably. 123 Nm is 90.725 lb-ft, rounded off to 91. Toyota uses SI (SI means Système International or International System, which is the metric system). This is my guess of where the 91 lb-ft is from. Great video btw 👍!

Faye, I just recently subscribed to your channel because one of your videos came up in my recommended last week. It's been about two years, but I remember watching your show on MotorTrend. I've always had a love for cars but I never took the time to seriously learn how to work on them until very recently. I'm 42 and decided I will make a career change to go into the automotive industry because the current trade I'm in is not a good fit for me.
Anyway, your channel is great because I can either watch and learn or if I'm doing chores I can put your videos on in the background and listen to them while I'm doing other things around the house. You're really great at explaining everything that somebody needs to know on whatever subject your video is about. Thank you and keep up the great work!

First off I love your videos you are so knowledgeable and you go through every step with detail, I just got one thing I want to ask I know when I took my break class for ASE they told me the squeaker clips shouldn't go against the rotation they should go with it opposite of what you showed that way it does not bend and gouge into the rotor it actually flexes away from it and just makes a squeaking instead of a growling sound where it's eating into the rotor.... Give me your opinions if you would and let me know if I'm doing it right.... Thank you very much like I said I do love your videos they have so much detail in them.... I am also a firm believer of cleaning all of the brake rotors and parts with brake cleaner.... My boss used to always yell at me for using too much break cleaner....lol

You commented about the Texas heatwave, I don't think people understand how truly hot it is. I can tell you that she is cooking when the fan is on, so being off she is showing how mentally tough she is, and being focused on the job at hand when your pouring sweat, shirt sticks to your back etc. The reason I understand is because I live in Oklahoma for you all that are geographically challenged, that is the state right above Texas. We both get blasted with humidity, alot from the gulf. What she didn't mention was the flash sweats, those accure when you body temp gets acclimated to a.c.room temp, then you step out side and the heat hits you at warp speed and alot of people like me get goose bumps and then sweat. So please know she is doing this very professionally under God awful conditions. In my opinion she is a very talented mechanic but off the charts while battling the heat that I can testify is horrible.

Very nice. This illustrates an important principle that very powerful brakes are a matter of context. Increase the power and speed for racing or add a bunch of weight and those same brakes can become dreadfully inadequate. This goes back for me to the original Mini Cooper S. These cars were homologation specials which had huge disc brakes that on a turbo-charged race car were described by the driver as "there aren't any." After 50 years, I think we can call this an unforgettable revelation.😉

A friend on a bike at a track day had the friction material completely come off one pad (and they were quality pads). Result was zero braking before a corner (even though there was still friction material on the other pads, it would take significant pumping of the lever to get any pressure), a trip into the kitty litter on the outside of the corner and then a trip to Accident & Emergency

Thanks for the informative video, I have been working on Toyotas since my 94 Camry sadly it went to Toyota have after a crash from an impaired driver. enter 2005 Camry I changed the breaks and rotors in my mechanic class my sister received it, so she gets a throttle body and mass air flow sensor for free last week. now my training was from a lady master technician and another guy they were both very good three years of training I would marry that lady if she wasn't married. I digress if I had three daughters, they would learn everything I know to fix cars too like you keep up the work women can do anything including being good mechanics. I have four sisters and they get anything they need to be fixed my brother he wasn't born with the mechanic gene so no help from him. very jealous of that new lift damm I would love to put the highlander on that if I had the space. mechanic advised I needed the throttle body and sensor cleaned I did it myself the range went up 50 miles from 497 to 548 I like fixing things. forget people who don't believe you're doing excellent work my girlfriend appreciates my mechanic knowledge.

I see those "performance" brake rotors a lot majority in America but with my knowledge and research online they're not exactly as great as you want them to be especially if you're towing heavy. The drilling of the rotor on the contact surface actually weakens the rotor and doesn't offer any performance at all where as the long slotting across the surface does so vented and slotted is the best way to go. Here in Australia DBA (Disk Brakes Australia) make good quality products with technology that actually ads performance instead of sporty asthetics but either are an upgrade over stock brakes. Good video Faye sucks so much to work on stuff when it's really hot.

  • @Unknown-hu4gf
    @Unknown-hu4gf 9 місяців тому

Faye, I can promise you that drilled rotors give less stopping performance. Slotted rotors are good, but the best is a standard rotor if you really want to stop on a dime.... Drilled rotors are a dangerous gimmick!

    Faye,
Excellent video. Just did similar job on my 2005 Arctic Tacoma with the same red powder coated, drilled/slotted rotors. Mistake I just noticed I made was that I did not clean the rotors. I would like to see you discuss what type of compressor for the air tools, and setup.
    Thanks

Hey Faye 🙂 Just went through replacing the same in my " Fix Or Repair Daily " as the inside pad on the back had worn down to a cigarette thin wafer leaving the exterior pad with considerable meat still attached ( Back Brakes ) Don't ya just love shitty engineering Grr ...Great to see you Faye 🙂

Good video Faye! Still mad about the whole gender thing 😡. Boys these days don't know the difference between a woman and a tik tok 304 that holds a wrench for a thumbnail. I always appreciate your professional look. Good influence for girls into diy.

Thank you so much on so many levels. Me too, it really bums me out. I try to be pretty so being called a man is hurtful. Then the flip side, the amount of comments that I delete telling me to go back to the kitchen..... I just don't get it. If they don't like my videos, they don't have to watch them. I appreciate the kind words 🙏🏻

Hey Faye, excellent job the voiceover worked well almost couldn’t tell. I always use brake clean I set a drain pan underneath and go to town. i’ve never had any trouble with Toyota pads I always brag about them, but good catch and it’s probably a great idea to do the upgrade you did with the extra weight, the truck looks Awesome. I hope it’s as much fun as it looks. Have a great one.🐔🐔🐔👍

By coincidence, I just did one side on my Jeep this evening (pads and rotor) and want to finish tomorrow. However, my rotors are pointing in the other direction..? I have seen several vids saying surface grooves go "this way" or "that way" or "if the internal fins are not angled, the surface grooves can go either way". I just emailed the manufacturer to confirm as the box didn't have anything. ;-)
