I’ve noticed that the general theme here in the comments for those wanting to join the corp are that of worry and doubt. It’s very straight forward, you either want to join the Royal Marines or you don’t. There appears to be a lot of overthinking and individuals trying to overcomplicate things. I would advise against doing any yomps with heavy equipment on. You’re more likely to injure yourself before you even start training. Go for gentle runs and do circuit training.
Arrive at lympstone and do the training that’s been tested and programmed in order to build you up. The end goal is more than achievable if it’s what you want.
My advise is keep it simple, do not overthink things regarding training and just take each day as it comes.

Joined in 78 as a Junior Marine at 16, we did a 4 weeks introduction , fondly called ‘girls time’ ( not sure you’d get away with that today) which was a God send for me, as I was completely clueless. (Made our training 39 weeks) Spent 12 years in the Corp and 25 in the Police, never stopped thinking of myself as a BootNeck! Great set of videos, makes an old sweat realise the finest traditions of the Corp are in good hands. OARMAARM

Did 12 years, ctcrm is a mind f@@k. You can't prepare for it. But my advice to anyone is to learn to run, and run and run...also do proper clean form pull ups, do 10, then do 10 again and again...nxt, do proper press-ups. I did truck loads every day for months before I joined, then when I got to ctcrm the corps taught me how to do press ups properly until my eyes bled. Mix this up with sit ups, Burpees and squats, then go for another long run as fast as u can. When I was in u did a 3 day course called a PRC, this has now changed judging by the clip, however the tests and requirements are the same and are horrific, when on the prc the instructors and pti's advised not to prep by running in boots or carrying weight. Build ur strength up by doing the above, they train you to get fitter each week. Learn to iron, fold clothes, whilst doing this ask Ur dad to pile into your room and lash Ur bed out the window and then get him to thrash u up and down the nearest hill until 4 in the morning, ensuring he leaves you about 20 mins for a kip before u get up for the day..that's all the prep u need ppl.

Hi Mick. Did you learn swimming during the course?? If so, how long and in what style?

    • @mickreynolds3306
      @mickreynolds3306 Рік тому +1

@@holmes426 you have to be able to swim prior to getting there. When I went you did a BST or battle swimming test. It may have changed. This included several lengths of the pool in combat trousers and a top. You then had to jump in from a 5 meter board carrying a rifle weighing about 10lbs and webbing weighing about 22lbs, swim half a length then tread water for a couple of mins before taking the rifle off and being able to pass it out of the pool to the instructor on the side. All this might have changed so Google it. But, all you need to do is go swimming once or twice a week before you go to ctcrm. Do breast stroke and front crawl and practice treading water. Good luck.

I am currently doing the one u mentioned all above however I have one advice if anyone have a shin splints or knee problem make sure not skip a leg day
    This helps me a lot
Since I started round leg day I m having less shin splints
Yes also make sure u buy good shoes and learn how to run with proper form and technique
And lastly take vitamins and broth soup

I took 3 nod troops through training and on every one there was a couple of them rapped on day one. To be fair they probably lacked the minerals to be a bootneck anyway.

Hey brother hope you keeping well. I’m currently in the process of joining the Royal Marines. I’ve submitted everything as far as my application is concerned I’m currently just awaiting my security clearance to be completed and I will be doing my PJFT very soon as well, I’m currently training towards it, I wanted to ask a bit of advice in terms of what type of weight exercises would be beneficial for strengthening those 4 movements, basically alternative exercises to include in my gym and weight training to improve on sit ups, push-ups, burpees and plank, I am working on those movements specifically but I was just wandering if there were any weighted excercises you would suggest doing to improve on those, many thanks and all the best brother.
    Kind Regards

In the mid 80's we had a lad who didn't do any training as he worked in a timber yard and by his own admission was fit as f**k.. I think he lasted getting off the train at CTCRM..🤣

Irish men have a seriously long martial history. Many earned a living as roving mercenaries in the Middle Ages and I'd say 'soldiering' is in your blood.
You've (justifiably) fought us Brits for centuries (it's just a shame our working class soldiers didn't join you and overthrown the ruling elite centuries ago!)
Nowadays the RM has loads of Irish lads in it, some things are bigger than politics 😊

Too much over thinking going on. Back in my day there wasn't any mobile phones and about two phone boxes on camp with mile long queues. The only call I ever made was to invite my mother to my pass out. Grow some and just get on with it. It sounds like snowflake city now TBH.
