Enjoyed the review, very thorough. I have been running in Adrenaline GTS shoes since 2005. Was recommended Adrenalines over my former go-to shoes; Kayanos, because they were ( perhaps still are) more durable. I'm on day one of wearing GTS 21s and have retired my GTS 17s. These are notably lighter which i like and very comfortable. Given Brooks track record with Adrenalin shoes they will likely remain my preferred running shoes.
Thanks for the feedback Tristram. Keep us posted with how the 21s go for you. You will find the reduction in weight has come from the removal of the dual-density support system, and the DNA loft cushioning is a lighter geometry. Keep up the running. Josh
Great video. I've been running in the GTS since V17, now on my 2nd pair of 20's. Really looking forward to trying the 21! Brooks are just top of the game. Fantastic.
I'm not a runner, but I have purchased Brooks for many years. Sometimes I like the changes, other times not. The 21's seem to have shortened the shoe around the ankle and heel part of the shoe, which I do not like, as I need the support there. I didn't hear you mention this difference. Thank you for your review.
I just bought a pair but ended up exchanging them for 1/2 size larger than I wore in the GTS20. The GTS21 are much narrower with pressure at the ball-of- foot on the side where feet are widest. I ended up going into the store and trying the 7D and the 7.5M. While the 7.5M in women's are a bit long (not too much, within reason) they are the only size that didn't give me pressure at outside medial ball of foot. I LOVED the Adrenaline GTS20 and am on my 3rd pair. he new upper makes the shoe more snug and narrow with those overlays at the exact wrong place for me where feet are widest, unfortunately. So I would recommend either going up 1/2 size if you have a wider foot or trying on in store. This same issue happened to me in the Ghost 13 - the 7D was just off in fit completely but the 7.5M was just fine. YMMV.
First review of yours I've watched and it's very, very detailed and helpful. I've been an adrenaline wearer for a while and have liked the guide rail feature introduced in recent models.
What an amazing review; I was going to purchase the 20s since they are on sale. But with these improvements, I might just bite the bullet and go with the 21s. Keep up the great work guys!
After 75k I’d say it’s outer sole is stiffer not softer. Potentially more responsive but feels stiffer; even while pressing with hand. Shins and knees let me know I cannot use this shoe as daily trainer like the GTS 20.
@@scottpittman825 no, no the DNALoft of the 21 holds up way better than the BioMoGo of 20, in my case. But it doesn’t feel as soft. For a daily trainer the 20 really nailed it. It soft yet it doesn’t have ground feel, it can count miles for hours, but yes it could feel a little like running on sand. The 21 feels more responsive and slightly faster, but it’s not the most comfortable or easy-going (for feet, feet and shins) trainer any more. The foam switch-up makes the 21 a more versatile shoe but neither are good racers or up-tempo shoes, IMHO. So, for me, it went from one of the best mild pronation daily trainers around, to a better overall shoe that retains shape better, but just barely makes the cut for a daily trainer. 200k now.
Fantastic review, I have put 4000+ miles on 10+ pairs of them since being introduced to the GTS in January of 2019 and I am debating between sticking with the GTS 20 or going to the 21.
And how would this compare to the Beast? I'm only 125lb and quite athletic but I've always had issues with FLAT feet and over pronate. I like low hiking shoes as their are stiff but their heavy. I now the Beast is for Bigger/Heavier people but the straighter last of the Beast seems to be a better match for someone that is truly in need of support. This is a great shoe for a runner looking to keep a light weight feel but the new Beast is so close in size that the Straighter last just seems like a better orthopedic fit. Any thoughts?
I've watched your fantastic reviews on GTS 21, New Balance 860 v11, and Asics GT 2000-9. Of the three, which has the LEAST aggressive medial support? I have a lower arch and only pronate slightly, but I need a little extra support through the arch. My foot often fights with medial support systems and throws me into what feels like supination, but typically, the newer neutral shoes don't provide enough arch support because they are are overly cushioned and squish down (and I'm only 125 pounds). Thank you for any suggestions you can make and for the great videos!
Hello Darlene, Thanks for watching and sending through your Q. I would suggest you give the Adrenaline GTS 21 a try. In my opinion, this is as close to a neutral shoe, with Dynamic Support. Dynamic, meaning only activates when required and the slight change in geometry on the lateral side, aids the Guide Rails to work in conjunction with the DNA loft cushioning on the lateral side. Over the past 5 years we are seeing running brands reduce the amount of medial support, but using foam density and outsole configuration to provide/encourage a movement path that feels natural. Remember our body will work towards the transition of least resistance, so find a shoe that supports you but, doesn't overcomplicate your stride. I hope this helps. Happy Running, Josh (and the team at Sportitude Running)
Fantastic review of 20 vs. 21, I've been asking questions for a while whether the 21 was worth waiting for and none of my local shops have been able to answer anything. Just ordered a pair of 21s! Curious about your thoughts on the Brooks Adrenaline vs. the Saucony Hurricane. I was thinking of using The Hurricane for shorter runs and Adrenaline for longer runs.
I've run in Brooks Adrenaline GTS for over 12 years & the 2021s were THE WORST in over 20 years of running. After breaking in they developed a nasty outward heel roll that killed my feet. I didn't notice at first, but my speed dropped, my endurance shrank & my feet started to hurt badly. Eventually the injuries started & my knees, ankles & foot hurt all the time. I kept telling myself I'd over trained etc etc, but no, it was the shoes. Moving back to GTS20s & all the problems went away. $140 of pure junk per pair (I bought 3 pairs), the heel roll is so bad I can't even wear them while walking! They are so bad that I even thought that they were cheap & nasty fakes, but I bought them from an actual Brooks store so they can't be. Brooks wouldn't take them back either. Hopefully the 2022s are better or I'm ditching Brooks.
Love the Adrenaline and I love the 12 mm drop, as a guy prone to achilles issues the higher stack height is just what the doctor ordered. I have run in all iterations of the Adrenaline. QUESTION, I have a pair of the Adrenaline 21 and I can't figure out the extra medial and lateral "rib" of cushion around the ankle collar? What purpose does that serve?...Calf rub protection? Just curious.
I think the GTS 20 is a better fit over the 21. I think they finally got back to the 2nd model. I used the 2nd model during basic. I'm mean it feels exactly like the 2nd model.
I want to thank you for making this review and helping English speaking runners on every corner of the world. I'm all the way from The Netherlands. Can't imagine how it is to live in Australia.
Can you advise what I should do coming from the GTS 14 (not for running, but walking)? The arch support and cushioning and amount of curve really helped me, but I'm worried that the changes since then like the change to guide rails would mean less arch support for example, and if that would be something that the 20 or 21 would be better for me (someone who likes the 14s). Also how would a shoe size compare between the 14 and the 20/21?
Just think back to the time when you didn't even know what heeldrop meant. I used to run in 12mm drop Pegasus 29 in 2014 and I had no idea what heeldrop meant back then. They were great. Ive been paying a lot of attention to lower heeldrops since 2016 so I was surprised when I looked back and found out the Pegasus was 12mm drop. So I ordered the Brooks Adrenaline 21 GTS.
i've been wearing kayanos for something like 20 years and am looking for something different but similar, i'm guessing these adrenalines are the closest, can anyone advise?
I am the only person I know who races/trains in stability who thinks the 21 "feels" too bulky. the 18 and 19 were PR shoes back in the day. My elite girlfriend loves the 21, but she's lighter and MUCH faster and uses expensive orthotics. Just feels like it's too much at size 14. Maybe I got a defective pair. I'm interested in the transcend, though.

Hey George, The Transcend 7's are a re-named to the Glycerin GTS. I have been running in a pair for the last 2 months, and I can confirm the performance is premium. This will explain the engineering features and the near-identical similarities between the two. Regards, Josh
Hey N, The back end of 2020 has seen some serious delays with manufacturing all due to the recent COVID-19 Pandemic. However, I can tell you that the colour offering on the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 is large for Australia. Over the next 12 months, we will see around 9 colours for both Men's and Women's. They rarely drop all colours at one time, and now due to the manufacturing delays (same for all brands), we will see colours drop roughly 6-8 weeks apart from here until the end of 2021. The other notable factor is more due to where you live, as Brooks would work with the distributor for that region and bring in models and colours, that could cater for the demand on a realistic level. Some areas across the globe do better with Brooks than others, and this will reflect in that regions units and SKU's they order for that running market. I hope this has answered your question. I can vouch for the Adrenaline GTS 21 as being of the best updates of the year. Seriously comfortable and great performing shoe. All the best for the remainder of 2020. Happy Running, Josh & The Sportitude Team.
@@SportitudeAus awesome thanks for that. I love brooks and they are hands down the most comfortable all rounder I think. @@Mistyfire Loaded Question.... Haha! How long do you have?? But the short answer is, every region has different laws and taxes around supply chains and distribution costs. So Brooks has a trusted supplier here in Australia who has been growing the brand for the best part of 20+ years. Therefore if Brooks is supporting this distributor, the idea is to try and get the community to buy local, so Brooks can continue to service the Australian community through this distribution chanel. But I get it, we live in a globalised society and there are times when other regions/countries get cooler colours. The grass can be greener on the other side. Good news is the shoe will still perform the same. Happy Running, Josh
