MASTERFUL in many ways sir. Thanks! For those watching that haven't heard his books on Audible, give them a listen. They're narrated by him and are absolutely brilliant. If you happen to read this captain, a how-to book on sailing/passage making would be most welcome!! You certainly have a knack for instruction.
"Introduction to Sailing" audiobook publication date April 1, 2022.
@@ChristianWilliamsYachting Ahoy Cap! I can't wait!! Thanks and best wishes.
can I push this rope through this eyelet? I'm a frayed knot... I'll see myself out...
:)
Selling my house, all my assets, buying a sailboat. Thanks for direction.
Hell yes
Yes. Helllll yes.
Me too. And hell yeah I'm serious!
Selling everything and buying his audio book..
problem is, the interest on a sailboat loan is WAY higher than on a house loan, not even close to pulling something like that off :/
also a sailboat that would fit my family (5 people) is more expensive than a house
Capt Williams... delightful! You've won UA-cam for Friday April 10, 2020.
Thanks for playing!
Exactly - thank you @Christian Williams for the best remedy, that takes off the corona edge - so far... way better, than rum with tonic!
Ride captain ride upon your mystery ship, to a place others may have missed....
Man, I really love this. The art of sailing with music and no talking is quite peaceful and a masterpiece on its own. Great job putting this together. Overall it was quite enjoyable and wished I had someone like you to teach me the art of sailing. Your family is lucky to have you and your expertise. Wished I had an uncle like you. I’ll be dreaming of sailing and jazz tonight:-)
I wasn't aware I needed this until that first note.
Thank you sir, your next 20 hits will most likely be me on replay.
what a great idea for a lockdown !! clear horizon, gentle breeze and jazz !!! Cheers ....from Galicia !! ( sorry forgot the spaguetty !!! ... and spaguetty )
Thank you sir for this much needed relaxing sense of being on deck with you. Your generosity and kindness are felt here in New York City - from a lost sailor __/)__~
You've set the mood for my evening. A little Blue Mitchell's Blue Soul, a bowl of my treasured Syrian Latakia with a glass of vintage Porto. Thank you again. If I might ask; what pipe are you smoking and what's your passage tobacco of choice?
Christian, thank you for the comforting respite. The music and motion of the sea have encouraged me to break my sheltering binds and venture onto the SFBay this weekend for a sail. I’m sure I’d be equally enthralled by what’s written in your log book. Safe and fulfilling sailing!
the san francisco marina at chrissy field is blocked off.
As a Jazz musician and my love for ocean is endless ,enjoying your videos tremendously ,thank you
Thanks Christian for this beautiful Easter gift to all sailors. Riding the waves on Thelonius Monk at the piano is a great combination.
Thank you. I needed this. It's presently snowing where we are along the Maine coastline (around 44 degrees, 37' N) and this weather keeps me from working on my new sailboat (presently under construction outside). It may be a few more weeks before I can unwrap the hull and get busy again.
Love Maine and miss New England. Enjoy the snow and even colder Water.
@@olivei2484 😂😂 I'm more in agreement with the TV ad: "It's better in the Bahamas."😁
Hearing actual sounds from the ocean and boat would have been great :c

Thanks Christian, I'm in Vermont it's raining 2.22.22, 32 degrees and losing our snow pack quick. More to come though, after this thaw...CLIMATE CRISIS strikes again!.
If you ever sail up to Vermont I would love to day sail with you on Lake Champlain, let me know! I've got experience sailing a Hobie 16'er but that was exhilarating as heck. Hiking out in the trapeze line and flying a hull is sheer heaven, only if I don't go too far and capsize.
Safe sailing, Mark
Thanks for this, i shared it with the Sailaway Community. Alot of sailors that can't Sail atm are using this Simulator..
Looks bliss as I sit in my garden in Scotland. Enjoy the sail.
I love thelonius monk, and have always wanted to go sailing. sadly my crumbling body would never allow this now. But thanks so much for giving me the chance to sail along with you.
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
It brought viewers ’memories to your trip videos that were previously recorded.
Well done sir.

Wonderful sailing + perfect playlist! C'est un pur plaisir, merci! I let it go again and again. And later tonight, while lying in bed, I will savor another chapter of "Philosophy of sailing". Mission accomplished! A perfect evening in quarantine.
Thanx for this Chris...excellent music choice, by the way. Its my birthday today and following your videos with envy....cheers and keep safe.
Your boat is so clean, I feel shamed. Watching this boarded up from the rain in my messy Tartan 30 (and smoking Nightcap)
Another 30 min Sailing Alone video?! I dove into my seat faster than a catholic into a pew!
Bravo sir, bravo! More like this if possible. Coffee for the soul.
Thank you for taking us along. For a moment, I left all the worries behind and just enjoyed the trip. And listening to Monk! Be well!
Loves me some Thelonius...😊
Don't forget to bring your "Thelonious Monk...hahaha
I was very interested in the cooking segment. I guess I've just taken a non-listing kitchen for granted all these years. Cheers!
Damn sir, I feel better already. Cheers! :-)
Garlic, onions, wine and Thelonius.
Nicely done, bordering on perfection, I love it
thanks mate.....Monk is my favorite jazz musician and if I had to pick just one of his songs as my favorite I would pick the solo Round Midnight from his album Thelonious Himself on Riverside. Nice to see you included it here,
A downwind sail at sunset with Thelonius. What could be better. Neat trick slicing onions with a rigger's knife. Hope no one got sick after dinner. Thanks for the relaxing respite.
Exactly the kind of sailing video I've been looking for. Thank you!
she love to sail ! :)
Due to the lockdown I am not busy. I watched beginning to end. I am on a SV of sorts, my living room, my in-home office, my kitchen. The scenery does not change much. Because of my age no one comes in. Family calls frequently, kids leave packages on the doorstep. I take my BMW motorcycle for spins in the country. The bike has a 160 hp engine which is like a middle school boy with a serious case of ADHD. Though it gets me out and relaxes me some it has a kinetic level of energy that doesn't lend itself to smooth jazz. My horizon on my little "house boat" is my fences and mature upper midwest species of hardwood trees. For 35 minutes and forty-four seconds my horizon became endless, the Pacific Ocean. Gliding along with you was well worth my time investment. Thelonious is a wonderful dream machine and Thelonious Monk an artist supreme. Thank you for taking the time to put this montage of sailing experinece together for me. I had time. I will get busy again at some point in the future. When I do...I'll take the time to watch it again. Be ever so cautious now on land. You and I are in the Covid19 bullseye. I so want to see another trip to Hawaii or even day sails with your friends and family.
Christian, many thanks. I asked my 12yo son where he heard about the kicking strap ? he said Christian Williams said that this is how the queen of England would call it..... He is 12. we will remember you the next 50-60-70-80 years. thanks for all the videos.
Amazing! it was a feast for my eyes. Thank you very much, that is what I needed this morning
Love the camera on the gimble!!
Just what the doctor ordered. Great music, which I now appreciate thanks to you, and perfect background visuals. There will be a specific few of us who really welcome your latest creation and really needed an escape like this. Thanks
Would love to know if you would feel confidant sailing your Ericson to French Polynesia and beyond? Obviously they're capable of going to Hawaii no problem. Great channel and reads!
Oh I’m actually looking at an Ericsson 25
Modified saying " A bad day of sailing beats the best day of work" thanks for the videos
Good to see your doing well
I researched Mr. Williams. Quite an accomplished man! Such a rich and seemingly fulfilling life...peaceful, contemplative and assuring. Thoroughly enjoying your videos Sir!
Love jazz and dig this vibe! Next could you choreograph some scintillating sailing set to 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida'? You don't need to change the name of your ship, either. Cheers!
Nice one Christian- this is the solo sailing I know. Appreciate the lack of BS, boobs, buttocks, bikinis, psychodramas and the hyperboles about the sea state when few white caps are in sight. The cooking sessions and trying to get some drink in that glass were perfectly matched to the soundtrack. Fair winds.
Christian: You have outdone yourself with this one. FABULOUS!
Well done. Thanks a million ...
Gawd, you can not go wrong with Thelonious Monk - is that where the boat name is derived from? I had wondered.
I have noticed previously the (non)Gerry Can holders inboard of the shrouds. I approve because the deck is less obstructed, I wonder about raising the weight that much further above the water line. Shame there is not wasted space somewhere down lower, at least for the water jugs. Just a random observation.
The camera on the gimbaled stove was brilliant, I do not know if I have seen that done before.
With the virus, we sail less in Hong Kong and some races have been cancelled as well. When I can’t sail weekly, watching your show makes me happy. A while back, when I was out of work, your shows and wisdom gave me perspective and assurance that all will be right in the end. Thank you, and sail on!
Like you, I'm a jazz fan. I'm a trumpet player also and I am very close to beginning my solo sailing career. What do you have for the sound system on the boat? How do you power it. Thanks for this post.
Awesome, I really enjoyed that. The music is terrific. It looked like really pleasant sailing.
Great skill cooking under way. There is nothing better than a dish of spaghetti (DeCecco, the best) on the cockpit with a nice evening.
Fair wind Chris...
I am waiting for next weekend to go to my sailboat to start to getting ready for the season.
From the Chesapeake bay md.
Thelonious accompaniment ... perfect. And have enjoyed your 2 book audibles as much
Great soundtrack for sailing Thelonious ll, one of my favorite keyboardist.
What I wouldn't give to do this. I do not come close to your knowledge and experience of sailing and I know how important both are to do what you are doing. And of course you have made it so much fun and so interesting. The wheels are turning.
I think you're (one of) the best spaghetti's cooker in LA. And I love that.
Ciao, Carlo
hold the glass in your left hand, and the neck of the bottle in your right, and you won't spill a drop! Better than a gimballed stove, because your two hands stay with you :) Don't try it for making tea though; that's best done with the cup in the sink just in case of an unexpected roll.
were you into the beat generation, or were you a proud square (a man who is on the level ? ) kerouac folded the flag neatly and with care. he was a jazz man, so i am curious if you were a beatnik. as opposed to a sputnik, i on the otherhand am a sailnik.....! hey, pass that bottle of wine.....!
Maybe I'm late to the party but what a great one. Does Tommy Flanagan cut the mustard? And, what's the course and ETA?
Greetings from Berlin, Germany and thank you for the generous gift! 🥰
Here Here! Oh Captain my Captain! May I suggest some Weather Report? Jaco and the ocean run hand in hand.
Thank You Sir ! I always Enjoy Seeing She Under Sail ! ;)
Always a nice video and beautiful pictures 👍
I love your lifestyle…the best video for me.Thank you! UW
Christian seems to be channeling Bobby Ayers love of Behop.
That’s 1 thing I hate is fishing a bird nest of rope strands through a eyelet. Lol
Thanks for getting us out there even if it’s just a virtual way
It’s been years since I saw anyone smoke a pipe ......... just saying
And the WInd Vane are hooked to the main rodder.. WHY???
Just perfect. Thank you.
Wow the spagetti part was wonderful
recipe please...alot of things seems to go into it
Will we ever see Christian Williams sailing again?
Can you picture Monk out on a sailboat?
Delightful..
Sweetness...oh peaceful sweetness
This sailing video works!
Very good news you come back
Jazz and the Ocean... what else?
so relaxing ..thankx
Slowly, sinking into oblivion.
Much appreciated!
Who is the loneliest monk?
lovely. thank you.
It all works, thanks again.
Sweet....Thanks....My kind of music....At last....Well OK then,it's my bed time....Sitting here alone in a two story house....It's been a ride....Looks like l am just about ready to ride off into the sun set...!
Together as one .
Great video Christian, me and my son are itching to get out on the Swan river, Perth, Western Australia, but, this bloody virus has locked everyone down. Such a dreamy video with it all, sailing, jazz, alcohol and pasta, keep it up.
Dave & Jack Magee, Perth, Western Australia.
Nice video, Christian. Monk is the coolest. Are you happy with the ground tackle on your Ericson? I was looking at a 38 on YW a while back (we don’t get many in Fla due to draft), and the ground tackle seemed little more than pro forma. But maybe you don’t get to do much anchoring out there in that deep water?
this made me happy
Certainly fine ! I'd guess your a fan of fats waller, oscar peterson, mary macpartland& stephan grapelli,, full sail dude !
Sir Sghetti you need a chop jar...onions,garlic, chives etc..all in one no spill..no knive🐬 You & Alladino & Miya if Magic Carpet must be fans of one another..my vision is of your two boats at anchor..everyone cooking, pouring & playing jazz.🕊
' gets no better.
You've inspired me to learn how to sail. My goal is to singlehandedly make it to Hawaii like you did. If I can do that comfortably, I'd like to try something further after that.
Cosseted in the Mar Pacific....just over the horizon...Sun Tzu whispers 'Thus the expert in battle moves the enemy, and is not moved by him'...and Monk plays on...
Thank you very much for your wonderful videos. I am 65 and have gotten bitten by the sailing bug (I served 6 years in the Navy and have loved the sea since). Still doing my search for a boat, unfortunately this Covid-19 has taken a toll on my savings and put away money from my freelance photography. But I built it up once, I will do it again. I just wanted to say thank you, you have renewed my drive and desire to join you and all the others on the sea. Fair winds to you, hope to meet you one day.
Brought back memories of sailing on SF Bay in my Catalina 22. Usually had some nice jazz tracks playing on the cassette deck - perfect! Thanks Christian, for these wonderful videos!
Excellent video!!! from Buenos Aires, Argentina I thank you very much! Happy Easter!!
Well I couldn’t name my boat Thelonious because you beat me to it :-) (so I named it Monk - not as good but honoring another monk as well) Always enjoy your videos and as we’re around the same age they inspire
