Nice video. I am getting into scratch build and RC planes and a total newb, but did RC cars hardcore 20+ years ago. This video fills in the gaps and answers my questions. Thanks!

One additional note is the early ESC had a opto sensor to synchronize the motor spin direction to the ESC control circuit. These were called "sensored" ESC units. Most today don't use this (some car ESC are still sold as sensored types). The sensoreless ones shown utilize the EMF filed that is generated by the motor windings and magnets, this signal gets processed and then used as a basic sync method to know where the motor shaft is during acceleration. This is the not the best way to do it, sometimes sensorless motors get what is called "cogging" due to the EMF signal not syncing up well.

Hi, thanks for the feedback! We do have several new video series in the making including everything LiPo, telemetry systems, etc. Rob has a long list of construction videos he's working on as well. Servos are a real challenge since each manufacturer has their own size naming, but we'll see if there's something we can do in that area. It's definitely a challenge. We use Gold Dealer mats with a nice chart from Hitec, Futaba has a spreadsheet, etc. No good cross-references though.

@eastcoast78 - Thanks a lot Canada! As far as the ESC RX lead, the ESC radio lead plugs directly into the receiver. The smaller leads you see from the ESC connector in the video are going to the battery monitor made by Electrotek RC products. Its "siphons" full power directly from the battery and alerts you when you reach voltage cutoff threshold. It's not necessary at all, just something we like to use, especially on helicopter setups.

@aannoonniimmss - Yep, try reversing the throttle channel (channel 3) on the radio transmitter. Futaba radios typically need the throttle channel reversed to work with Electronic Speed Controls.

@petritwow - The cost varies tremendously depending on your application. Starting under 100.00 USD for all three (micros) to several hundred as you get larger and more powerful in size. The receivers average 35.00 - 75.00 but can go over 100.00 depending on how many channels you require.

Tower Hobbies is selling Tactic TTX404's for 69.95 right now. We've used them before and they're a solid 2.4GHz radio system. Very basic, but solid.

if your esc does not come with color coated wires(I.E all three are black) how do you know how t hook it up correctly?

question, how do you know the voltage of any given esc?? in other words, an esc says 40 amp prgrammable , but doesnt say required input volts?

hi, do you guys happen to have a video where show how to connect 2 or more batteries to one BEC? or where can I find a video which shows that. Thank you!!

Hey guys new with RC airplane, do not understand how the motor is fed from the speed controller. I know the three wires go to the motor and two to the battery, and one plug to the receiver. But how is that set up controlling the motor speed? Tom

my esc is not recognizing that I am at full throttle. In mode 2 I've tried setting my RX all the way down then turning on my RX then plugging in my battery. I then here the initial musical tone then three short beeps. Then short beeps every 15 seconds or so. I've also tried setting my throttle all the way up before powering on and get the same result. I've tried setting my trim to 0, -100, -120 and 2...same result.

I have had several multi engine electric aircraft and have never run into this problem. I hope you can help. I have two 46 size motors hooked to two 80 amp esc's. I am using a separate on board power supply so I have disabled the BEC on each controller. The battery leads from each speed controller meet at the center of the wing and have been combined into one lead. I am also using a safety arming plug. I am using two 5 cell batteries with a parallel plug. The problem occurs when I power up both motors together. When you advance the throttle all is well for the first quarter but as it is advanced the motors begin to oscillate and if I let it continue they will even begin to cut out alternately. But when I disconnect one esc the remaining motor operates perfectly. I have performed this with both motors and by themselves there is no problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

I recently found this Rc Fuel helicopter dumpster diving and I like to know if its worth spending the money to repair it or if im better off selling it as a parts thing.I would appreciate it if I would get back a reply soon if possible or if someone may guide me thru on wiring or connecting it back together.

Hi, nice video here. I'm beginner in a RC world. I've a Futaba T6EX transmitter, Futaba R617FS receiver, Arrowind 18A ESC, Ripmax Xtra brushless motor 2829-16, a Li-po 2 cell 7,4/1300Ah battery and some servos, but when i put everything together, the motor doesn't work, just makes beep sound. Servos work fine. Any idea what I do wrong? do I need to change any of the components? Thanks.

ok, so I was looking into this, and i have never built anything RC in my life, i am just a kid so my budget is pretty low, are there anyother cheaper RC trasmitters and recivers out there, and also do the reciver and transmitter have to be the same brand??
